This thread is to get some general discussion going about Naviathan and to gather people's thoughts and ideas about this new addition will fit into the CAP metagame. Specifically, what Pokemon do you expect to rise/fall in popularity? I'm interested to hear your initial ideas and what set(s) will be the most effective in the meta and how it will effect the metagame.
Since I'm here posting this, I'll share my initial thoughts about on how it'll fit:
I feel like it won't effect the meta at all, apart from make Mollux even more popular than it already as it now has something else it completely walls, even though it'll rely on Thunderbolt to damage Naviathan, it'll come out on top most of the times. Since this is another CAP weak to ground, Colossoil, another common Pokemon, will continue to be one of the more popular CAPs but a faster spread will be used as Naviathan naturally outspeeds it. A Pokemon that'll gain a lot more popularity will be Arghonaut as it can check both CM and Jolly DD sets as long it uses a fast Taunt set to prevent any potential recovery. Mega Venusaur is looking like one of the best partners to Naviathan as most of it's checks are easily weak to Venusaur's STAB or simply cannot break it.
More bulkier teams will gain popularity as Pokemon like Cyclohm, Gliscor and the aforementioned Mega Venusaur provide great defensive synergy with it and allow ease breaking Naviathan's checks for it to sweep mid-late game. More offensive teams will have to be wary of DD sets as it's STABs + coverage can provide great strain to the common builds and will have to adapt to this accordingly. Stall's biggest worry will be CM Taunt, as it set up on a lot of the commons Pokemon Like Chansey and Clefable and again will have play extremely careful around it, as losing Mollux could cost them the game then and there. Balance will most likely have to make slim to none changes as most of the common Pokemon that are used check Naviathan.
I can't say exactly what sets will be most effective, as the OU meta and CAP meta are completely different, so I won't be able to give my thoughts about this at this moment of time.
Potential Arghonaut Set:
Arghonaut @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 88 HP / 240 Def / 180 Spe
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch
- Waterfall / Toxic
- Taunt
- Recover
Please use this thread to share ideas, and if you disagree with someone's thoughts, please provide some reasoning and not just use one liners. Thanks! n_n
