NCAA Football 2008

I told myself I'd wait until I saw anything on ESPN about pre-season rankings to make a college football thread about the '08-'09 season. Coincidentally, last night I saw a little segment about just such a topic.

So, to start things off, I figured we could discuss recruiting, coaching, hopes for returning players, and spring practices (if anyone has seen his or her team play yet this year.) I suppose we could also discuss the proposed change in the BCS, and how it might be bettered for the next proposal. Then as the season kicks off, the discussion about how well or poorly teams are doing will inevitably begin.

Being a Georgia Bulldog, I'm extremely excited about our young team only getting better since last season, and the fact that we've picked up a (supposedly) great wide-receiver, and a fresh QB to replace Stafford when he graduates/gets drafted.

However, I think that anything we earn this season will be hard-earned, and that we have a really tough schedule ahead of us. Tebow will definitely be a big threat to anyone playing the Gators.

As for the BCS, I don't know what made them propose a +1 system, calling for a "Final Four" type playoff. I would much rather see an 8, or better yet, 16-team playoff, so then teams with three or more losses might also get a chance to play better teams. I realize that typically, the polls accurately depict who really are the best teams, but with Auburn going 13-0 and not getting a championship game, and UGA/USC both playing overrated teams instead of each other or higher ranked teams, we need a change.
