HURR DURR | Alolan Exeggutor | Know Your Meme

[OVERVIEW]

With access to two very strong STAB moves in Draco Meteor and Leaf Storm and the ability to pivot with Teleport, Alolan Exeggutor makes for a strong wallbreaker. It can dent anything that doesn't resist both STAB moves and stop special walls like Sylveon, Stakataka, and Snorlax from wholly taking advantage of it. It also has Flamethrower to hit Steel-types like Copperajah, Doublade, and Escavalier, which would otherwise wall it, and it has some defensive utility by being an excellent switch-in to Rotom-C, Vaporeon, and Quagsire. While pivoting with Teleport is nice, the drawback is that Alolan Exeggutor is forced to move last, and it sometimes gets hurt as a result. Alolan Exeggutor is also hindered by its relatively low Speed stat, especially when competing with other wallbreakers like Machamp, Golurk, and Sylveon.

Flamethrower pummels pesky Steel-types that wall both of Alolan Exeggutor's STAB moves like Copperajah, Escavalier, and Silvally-Steel. Teleport does force Alolan Exeggutor to move last, but it prevents special walls like Sylveon and Snorlax from exploiting Alolan Exeggutor and taking the momentum. Harvest and Sitrus Berry allow for more pivoting opportunities. Because Alolan Exeggutor often forces switches on what it comes in on, Harvest reproducing a new Sitrus Berry is incredibly likely, making it very hard to whittle down with chip damage.

Teammates that can take advantage of Teleport like Toxicroak, Machamp, and Passimian are appreciated to handle the likes of Sylveon and Stakataka. Physical wallbreakers that appreciate Vaporeon and Mudsdale being gone, like Silvally-Ground and Tauros, work as great teammates too. Silvally-Ground forms a VoltTurn core with Alolan Exeggutor and they deal with each other's checks. For example, Alolan Exeggutor can handle Vaporeon for it. Poison-types like Salazzle and Toxicroak effortlessly outspeed and OHKO Alolan Exeggutor with their respective STAB moves. Therefore, a partner like Diancie or Talonflame, respectively, works to patch up this weakness. Pokemon with Ice-type coverage like Starmie, Blastoise, and even Inteleon offensively pressure Alolan Exeggutor with its 4x weakness to Ice. Vaporeon, Snorlax, and Copperajah are examples of teammates that can eat up such moves with ease. Vaporeon provides much-needed Wish passing to Alolan Exeggutor to make up for its mediocre Speed tier.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

With Alolan Exeggutor's rather dismal Speed and solid Special Attack, a Trick Room set could prove to be viable. Running a Life Orb + 4 attacks set gives Alolan Exeggutor more leeway as a wallbreaker. However, due to its mediocre Speed stat, residual damage is the last thing it needs to be effective. Harvest combined with Custap Berry + Endure can make Alolan Exeggutor an issue for faster threats, since it will usually be launching one more attack before it goes down. A Choice Specs set with proper prediction can be nearly impossible to switch into safely, due to the high Special Attack stat and high-Base Power moves Alolan Exeggutor boasts. However, it fails to actually beat Vaporeon because it gets scouted with Protect.

Checks and Counters
====

**Special Walls**: Foes like Sylveon, Stakataka, and Snorlax have little issue coming in on any of Alolan Exeggutor's attacks. Sylveon and Snorlax are able to restore any lost HP with ease with Wish and Rest, respectively.

**Poison-types**: Toxicroak and Salazzle make easy work of Alolan Exeggutor with Gunk Shot or Sludge Wave and therefore force it out. Even slower foes like Vileplume and Weezing can dent Alolan Exeggutor via Sludge Bomb on the switch. None of them want to switch into Draco Meteor, however.

**Ice-type Coverage**: Blastoise, Starmie, and Inteleon all carry Ice Beam in their arsenal to nail Grass-types, especially Alolan Exeggutor with its 4x weakness to Ice.

this should be written over the Teleport + Sitrus Berry Harvest set; Choice Specs and other similar wallbreaker sets are definitely good, but Teleport sets are more representative of what is run in high-level play
