Yes, I'm new. Look at this, first post. So I would prefer not getting torn apart and told that I suck tremendously. I want to learn how to build an effective competitive team.
That said, I'm not a complete noob. I simply don't have much competitive experience. I started this team with a bit of research, then built it and tested it on the cpu fighters for the most part, then on a few semi-competitive friends I have. Then I revised it and wrote up a team based on what worked well the first go-round, plus perfected EVs, etc. I'd like to make it better, and from what I can tell, this is where the experts gather. So if you have some time... critique away.
Team name: PokeStuck (Each pokemon is named a main character from homestuck in-game)
Aegislash
Ferrothorn
Mega Charizard X
Greninja
Gardevoir
Lucario
(Edit: If you're curious, Aegislash is Dirk(sword connection), Ferrothorn is Jade(plants and iron maiden suit connection) Charizard is dave (coolness and heat connection) Greninja is the genesis frog (cause... it's a frog.) Gardevoir is rose (light and dress connection) and lucario is bec noir (appearance and physical attack connection).)
Charizard@charizardite x- Jolly, tough claws- Dragon dance, flare blitz, outrage, earthquake- 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Charizard isn't ideal to start with, but I wanted him first for one reason. The mega evolution turns him into dragon type rather than flying, meaning that he is no longer 4x weak to stealth rock upon switching in. The moveset gives him coverage and power, allowing for the possibility of a quick KO before switching out to a setup pokemon. STAB outrage will kill off a lot of things with the mega boost, possibly even a not very effective if it's a glass cannon. Jolly outspeeds many things, tough claws boosts everything but EQ, and the EVs are pretty obvious. A simple physical sweeper, really.
Aegislash@leftovers- Relaxed, stance change- King's shield, swords dance, shadow sneak, sacred sword- 252 HP, 252 SDef, 4 Def
Overused, I've heard. But I love it too much. It can switch into poison, normal, or fighting easily, and the leftovers combined with frequently used king's shield heal it significantly over time. Swords dance is practically guaranteed with its bulk, and it can then use sacred sword for massive damage or shadow sneak for priority (still high damage) depending on how threatened it is. EV's give it bulk against shadow ball and other special moves that threaten it, and king's shield lowers defense on anyone unlucky enough to try to hit it directly.
Ferrothorn@rocky helmet- Relaxed, iron barbs- gyro ball, power whip, leech seed, stealth rock- 252 HP, 208 SDef, 48 Def
Again, not particularly new. I tried to stick with things proven to work. Iron barbs and rocky helmet, combined with stealth rock and leech seed, make this a very whittle-y fighter. Death by a thousand needles. Gyro ball works great with its low speed, and power whip is STAB and coverage. EV's give great bulk with its base stats, so much so that in the storyline I often found computers hurting themselves on iron barbs and rocky helmet more than they hurt me with their attacks. Yes, I know that's no sign that it'll do the same in competition, but it is worth something. Relaxed nature increases defense further while powering up gyro ball.
Greninja@focus sash- Hasty, Protean- Hydro pump, Ice beam, dark pulse, u-turn- 252 SAtk, 252 Spd, 4 Atk
Special sweeper. Focus sash lets it surprise survive a single hit so that protean can take effect and boost its second attack. Hydro pump and dark pulse are STAB and deal decent damage, plus flinching occasionally for dark pulse. Ice beam is dragon/ground coverage, and u-turn is for a bit of extra damage on the switch out. The EV's make it a speed demon that can 1HKO most things it's super effective against, and a few it's not. The extra 4 Atk ev's are just there because defense or special defense would be silly on a focus sash set, and Atk boosts U-turn a bit.
Modest Gardevoir@expert belt- Calm mind, moonblast, focus blast, shadow ball- 252 Satk, 176 spd, 76 HP, 4 sDef
Calm mind, then special sweep. Moonblast can lower SAtk and force a switch on other special sweepers if it doesn't outright 1HKO. Focus blast and shadow ball are coverage. Expert belt boosts the super effectives and allows me to pretend to have a choice item. Ev's and nature make a single calm mind deadly, allow it to outspeed pretty well, and provide enough bulk to set up the calm mind.
Adamant Lucario@life orb- Close combat, extremespeed, swords dance, Ice punch- 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Another physical sweeper if charizard doesn't go well. If I can switch in and swords dance, it's all over. Close combat kills lotsa stuff, ice punch covers dragons and ground, extremespeed for extra priority. Life orb makes it even stronger, Adamant lowers useless SAtk in favor of more attack, and EVs give it insane speed and power.
Threats:
I'm sure I'm missing a lot here, as I'm still new to competition and unsure of common counters. However, I'm aware that I don't have a spinner, which means stealth rocks and spikes are a problem. Also, earthquake. Most of my team is weak to it, except charizard- which I immediately plan to make weak to it by mega evolving.
Once again, thanks! I'm sure there are at least a few holes here that will make expert players cringe... Try not to get too mad at me. ^_^
