After doing not-so-well with my first RU Team (Due to Lack of Understanding of both Hyper-Offense and The ORAS RU Tier), I played a bit more and I think I did pretty well with this one! Using it, I got an ELO of 1202 on Pokemon Showdown. The team is fairly functional and has doesn't have many NOTABLE weaknesses that stops the team from functioning (although the team has a problem with priority users such as Mega Banette, Ambipom[fake out] AND Fast Fighting Types like Hitmonlee ) So without further ado, here is my team:
Team Building Process
First, I needed a lead for my team. Although many thoughts came to mind on who to use, I decided to work with a fairly less common Pokemon in RU: Piloswine. Although last time using "innovative sets [and Pokemon]" was what I aimed for with my last team, it actually worked this time. This Piloswine is a bulky Stealth Rock lead. Beside having Stealth Rock (obviously), I gave it Ice Shard to make up for its low speed, Icicle Crash for when it could bulk (to get more damage than Ice Shard), and Earthquake, which (due to it's immense attack stat) can hit several Pokemon for hard damage. It holds Eviolite, which allows it to tank hits easily.
Although originally a Banded Set Rhyperior, I noticed that often if Piloswine was Knocked Out and Stealth Rock was removed, I lost a lot of potential to sweep
. So instead I gave Rhyperior a Life Orb and replace Megahorn (a move which I never used or found the need to use) with Stealth Rock. Other than this, kept the standard Stone Edge, Earthquake, and Ice Punch.
Since my Team so far was weak to fighting, water, grass, and ice, I decided that Specs Delphox could take care of almost all of my problems for the type. This Delphox is a standard Specs set with minor adjustments to improve on what I could take/take out. Although it cannot protect
ITSELF against certain moves that would KO Rhyperior and Piloswine, it does a good job
keeping those Pokemon types in check
. This Delphox has Fire Blast to take care of Grass and Ice types, Grass Knot to take care of Water types, Psychic
to stop Fighting Types, and Dazzling Gleam to defend itself from Dark Types.
The team STILL had to deal
with the typing issue of water, so to balance
it out, I added a more bulky version of the standard RU Defensive Amoonguss set. This set was designed to bulk against Wall-Breaker Clawitzer, what often tended to OHKO or 2HKO the other members from the team. It can tank Ice Beam, which is the standard counter to Amoonguss. Although I didn't touch the basics (Spore, Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, and Black Sludge), I gave it Protect
to take extra turns to gain HP
that often caused Amoonguss to survive attacks that it otherwise wouldn't have been able to.
I just couldn't leave the Overpowered God of ORAS RU off this team: Druddigon! This Druddigon is an Assault Vest Variation, which allows it to take hits that would normally KO him. It uses Sucker Punch to counter faster Pokemon while Dragon Claw, Fire Punch, and Gunk Shot are saved for Druddigons Weaknesses; Dragon, Ice and Fairy. It's important that Fairy Types/ Fairy Move users are removed before calling out Druddigon.
And Last but CERTAINLY not least: Scrafty! This Dragon Dance Variant uses leftovers to support itself while using Dragon Dance. It's 3 other moves are used to sweep
just about any team: Drain Punch, Knock Off, and Ice Punch. Add Dragon Dance and Moxie (which raises the Attack every time it KO's a Pokemon), and it makes for an amazing late game sweeper!
