Hi guys! I'm new to competitive Pokemon and I'd like to get some advice on my team. The general idea was to have a team to complement Hydreigon, but this gen the addition of Fairies really screwed Hydreigon :(
The following team is one I found from a thread a while ago and I just changed the EV spread on Hydreigon to something different. So now the team preview:
Gliscor, Heatran, Rotom-Wash, Hydreigon, Mega Scizor and Togekiss.
MVP (Gliscor) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Toxic
- Substitute
- Protect
- Earthquake
MVP is my toxic staller and my physical wall. It sponges Fighting, and Bug type specifically for Hydreigon and takes any physical hit fairly well that's not Ice. Gliscor can also switch in for when my Heatran runs into Fighting and Ground type moves. The Toxic Orb is nice for when my opponent tries to put one of my 'Mons to sleep and obviously the immunity to Poison and Electric types helps my team. When I get rid of all of my opponents special attackers as well as the 'Mons with Ice type moves my opponent usually forfeits (Earthquake takes care a lot of the remaining threats if I can't toxic stall it ie: Steel types.).
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Roar
- Stealth Rock
Heatran is primarily my special wall. It also sets up my Stealth Rocks to get some extra damage off so my Hydreigon can nail the OHKOs or 2HKOs. 4x Fairy resist really helps out Hydreigon. Plus the Toxic immunity and Fire immunity is nice. When I'm in a tight spot against set up sweepers, Heatran is usually bulky enough to phase it out. Lava Plume over Fire Blast and Flamethrower for the burn. I'm open to switching out Earth Power as I usually don't find myself using it very often so another move for coverage could be considered in that spot.
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
Rotom-W is the closest thing I have to a Sp.A sweeper and it's extremely bulky with awesome typing. Hydro Pump and Thunderbolt are my STAB powerhouses to deal significant damage and Volt Switch is part of my VoltTurn core which has been working great for me so far. Will-O-Wisp is there to cripple physical sweepers.
Hydranova (Hydreigon) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 60 Atk / 216 SAtk / 232 Spd
Rash Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Superpower
The reason I built this team is Hydreigon. His Sp.A stat is massive and the unprepared just get demolished. Draco Meteor puts a huge hole in anything that's not Fairy and Dark Pulse rounds off the STAB moves I have. Fire Blast is to guarantee me the OHKO on Scizor(Mega) and Ferrothorn. Superpower is used to catch Blissey/Chancey/Ttar off-guard and OHKO them if they have enough prior damage done to them.
Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- U-Turn
Mega Scizor is my physical sweeper. Deals with those Fairies my Hydreigon hates first and foremost. The priority Bullet Punch does significant damage for anything not physically defensive and the U-Turn as mentioned before is used with my Rotom-W for the VoltTurn core. I set up with SD and look at HP bars diminish. Roost is for longevity so I can stay in the game longer with this major threat late game as Bullet Punch most likely will net me the OHKOs. I am willing to change this for a coverage attack though.
Togekiss @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 176 SAtk / 80 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Thunder Wave
- Air Slash
Togekiss catches a lot of people off-guard for some reason. The T-Wave and Air Slash hax just net me a free kill. Usually this deals with the Fighting type weakness I have on my team and those pesky Grass types. Defog is to clear up the field for my Hydreigon as the LO really chips away at my HP already and I'd like my Hydreigon to sustain the least amount of damage possible.
**Now so far the problems I've had with this team are Breloom, Greninja, Mega Pinsir and Kyurem-B. I don't know if I should be able to outplay my opponent and maneuver around these my easily than I am, but they for some reason give me a headache. Any suggestions for different sets/EV spreads are welcome on my existing Pokemon. I'm willing to rework the entire team if need be with Hydreigon still as the focal point, but I really like how Gliscor, Rotom-W and Heatran are doing. If Mega Scizor is switched out I'd like to have a U-Turn user on my team still. Another thing I have a problem with is that my team is awfully slow so any suggestions would be great! Pointing out other major threats/weaknesses to my team would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch guys!
