New to NU

I mostly played OU but then decided to try different tires to get away from all the politeods and nintales and keldeos and clouds.
I saw a match on youtube by Pikawu with a Flying Gem Charizard and I thought it was pretty cool so I said Charizard is NU so let's make a team with him. The team I made won about 70% of the matches and there were quite a few of them. Now I know you're gonna find tons of flaws but please don't call me noob or something of the like.

Here's the team:

Charizard (M) @ Flying Gem
Trait: Blaze
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 64 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Def / 68 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Flare Blitz
- Flame Charge
- Roost

It has two fire type moves though battling I found myself using acrobatics most of the time. I use flame charge to revenge kill or when I expect a switch for a nice speed boost and kill at least one pokemon with acrobatics before I'm forced to witch by a bulky water type or rock.

Wartortle (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 172 SDef / 84 Def / 252 HP
Bold Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Haze
- Rest
- Scald

This set is on the smogon suggestions page though I gave it balanced defenses instead of just physical. It's great to stop shell smashers and entry hazard leads.

Gardevoir (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 Spd / 4 Def / 252 HP
Modest Nature
- Heal Bell
- Psych Up \ Wish
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic

This set is to hit flying types and do cleric job. I mostly used it with Wish but playing, I noticed I didn't use it that much as I would rather attack or Heal Bell so I'm thinking Psych Up will surprise shell smashers if Gardevoir survives their first attack, she can outspeed the next turn.

Lapras (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Avalanche
- Ice Shard
- Waterfall
- Drill Run

This is a set nobody will expect: a bulky physical sweeper. Lapras will survive most of the super effective attacks and kill with Avalanche. If Avalanche doesn't kill, Ice shard will. This set makes the best of Lapras's lame speed. Drill run is for electric type who thinks they can OHKO Lapras.

Pinsir (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- X-Scissor
- Rock Slide

This is a standard build but with Mold Breaker to hit levitating pokemon. I find Moxie not to be that great for a choiced pokemon except late game when you don't really need it anyways.

Cradily (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 SAtk / 144 HP / 96 Def / 16 SDef
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- AncientPower / Recover
- Giga Drain
- Earth Power

Another unexpected build: special attacker with Life Orb. At the start I had Recover but again I found I didn't need it because of Giga Drain so I give it AncientPower. This set is great to switch in when you predict Charizzard is targeted by a water attack giving Cradily +1 SAtk and force a switch. Also this build is bulky enough to take about 50% damage from exploding pokemon.

Hi swmas, and welcome to NU! I like some of the thought processes you have in constructing this team, but I think soem tweaks will make this team better.
First off, if you are not using standard EV spreads (unless it's like a max/max spread), explain why you use the ev's. I have no idea why you have defensive investment in your charizard, or why you have 16 SDef EV's in your cradily's set. Pointing out that it guareentees a 2 or 3hko instead of a 1 or 2hko might be beneficial enough to keep spreads!
Your gardevoir really doesn't make sense to me, with max speed, hp and the +SpA nature, with a defensive/offensive role. You are trying way too hard to make gardevoir the end all answer to every poke. For a cleric, I would suggest Musharna over gardevoir, as though pokes like gardevoir and lickilicky can heal bell and pass wishes, you are in dire need of a reliable fighting switch in, which charizard or gardevoir really not able to take a Choice band Close Combat. Musharna still posseses the capacity to wake up wartortle if you still want to go with rest on it.
Lapras also really does not work well with experience, as it is honestly not as bulky as you (or I) assume, and not strong or fast enough. This poke also stacks up your electric weakness (even though this will be fixed with new stealth rocker, you still don't want 3 pokes weak to it). I think Calm Mind Serperior can fit very well in this spot. This poke can surpass the 95 speed ranking that is very vital in this metagame, set up a calm mind or 2 fairly easy and fire off fairly strong attacks while being bulky enough to take a hit and recover off damage. It is also one of the best pokes against alomomola, which is a big pain otherwise.
I think a stealth rock lead that can function with the same intentions but doing the better is Seismetoad. Seismetoad not only sets up a fast stealth rock, but can absorb electric and water moves, which is very nice (though you can also use swift swim). You can try an offensive rain dance sweeper or even a life orb 3 attack+ stealth rock combination to keep your attacking prowess with your stealth rocker.
For pinsir, I would either run moxie+stone edge over mold breaker and rock slide. Moxie is such a great ability, and cs pinsir isn't strong enough to OHKO common sturdy Stealth rock leads ( which is the primary purpose of mold breaker). Stone edge gives you more power and crit chance, but rock slide is a safer option. If you really want to use mold breaker, Choice band sawk is so much better.
On your Wartortle, it is very important that you get a spin off (if you don't taunt with serperior:eek:) so I think foresight is very important over either rest or haze. You want to make sure your charizard is at higher hp ( this isn't as important for the scared set as you are boosting its fire blast with S.R. switches), so foresight will guarentee a spin on misdreavus. Toxic is another great move, but then you would have to decide your priorities for your wartortle. I would say Scald, foresight and rapid spin are a must, while you can use either of your current moves or toxic. However, you really only need to rapid spin once for hazards to not come back, so rest may not be as big of a necessity.
Ah, your charizard. Physical Charizard is certainly an interesting poke, as I will almost always switch into a special defensive wall when seeing them (or revenging with a faster poke). However, once people realize you are a physical set, pokes such as golem or alomomola can switch in and take multiple hits easily. Because of this, Swords Dance will instantly make your poke a huge threat to those physical walls (alomomola is 2hko by acrobatics after a swords dance). Having earthquake somewhere on the set will also give you the opportunity to dish out some damage to rock types (though they still might not be 2hko'd with or without a SD boost). I do not think flame charge is as necessary to this poke as with full speed investment, you already outspeed so many pokes, plus flying and ground offer very good coverage. I can see either roost or flare blitz in the last slot, as roost for longevity, and flare blitz for pokes such as eelektross, as a +2 flare blitz is gonna hurt.

This looks like a very fun team to use, and physical charizard (or charizard in general) is a beast. Hope your team goes well!

Hey thanks a lot for taking the time to rate my team.
About Charizard's EVs I thought adding speed won't be necessary since I'll get at least +1 boost from Flame charge. Giving him defensive EVs lets it Roost on incoming ice or electric attacks. You are right about Cradily, moved the SDef Evs to Def.
Seismitoad is a better Stealth Rocker though I like the idea of switching Charizard away from a water attack and giving Cradily a SAtk boost.
Gardevoir is a gimmick, a lot of times people tried to set up a Shell Smash on Wartortle while he was Spinning. Even though I had Haze, if I switch Gardevoir in to take a special attack she'll probably survive it and after the Psych Up she can outspeed and take out the Shell Smasher. I did it a few times and had two rage quits. Musharna is a great suggestion, I'm gonna be adding it to the team.
I like Lapras better than Serperior because of the faster or bulky Flying types that are a big threat. This Lapras's main strength is Ice Shard, that can cripple threats like Sawk and kill Altaria after SR damage. If I replace Lapras I'll have no priority moves and I'll be in trouble.
Mold Breaker Pinsir is good against Haunter that is always trying to set up subs, it can outspeed and kill it with an Earthquake. Maybe I just suck but I never got the benefits of Moxie. After I got 1 boost I'm always forced to switch because the opposing pokemon resist my move and it will kill me next turn.
I don't think I need Forsight that much for Wartortle. If I predict a ghost switch in, I'll just use Scald for decent damage and the burn. The only one that doesn't care about the Scald is Misdreavus but it won't be able to set up cause of haze.
SD Charizzard is a good idea and I'll add it to the team.
