New To Online/ OU Hail/First Time Hail

Obamasnow (Abomasnow) (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Snow Warning
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 144 SAtk / 112 Spd
Lonely Nature
- Blizzard
- Ice Shard
- Wood Hammer
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Ok this is the Mixed Attacker Abomasnow. I have always used this just because it does nice counter out other Weather Teams. It hits Tyranitar and Politoed for some Decent damage if they switch in. Blizzard helps a lot on dishing out damage to physical walls. It still may not be a whole lot but it does suffice. The Ice shard is good for finishing off things. It helps fight of landorus forms that are weak on hp as well as Tornauds and thundurus. HP Fire is good if I think Ferrothorn is switching so I can hit him for some damage then switch into Magnezone.

Mitt Romney (Mamoswine) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Thick Fat
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
Mamoswine!! One of my Favorites. I use him to help set up Stealth Rocks(Sometimes) or just as a heavy hitter. Ice Shard is priorty and helps handle alot of would be threats such as Thundurus/Scarf and so on!. Icicle Crash is just Huge stab and so is Earthquake. I use him mainly to just check the therian forms. Tornadus-T is usually on a rain team it seems and his Ice Shard does wonders on taking it down. He is also good for Knocking out Tyranitars and doing some ok damage to Hippowdon.

Squidward (Tentacruel) (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 20 Spd / 236 Def
Bold Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Scald
- Ice Beam
My Rapid spinner. I use him to get rid of Hazzards and try to set up some Toxic Spikes. A lot resits Toxic Spikes like Steel and Poisons who can suck them up but sometimes it does help in neutralizing a wall that is not Steel. I have the Scald on there to do some stab damage or hopefully pull of a burn. Ice beam is for pure coverage and does help alot. Great for switch in to! It resists some things so it is save to switch in every now and again and then set up spikes that way since they usually switch out.

Espeon
(F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spd / 4 SAtk
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Baton Pass
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
My Espeon is a Baton Passer but can be used in its own Offensive way. I Calm Mind onto/ Abomasnow/Magnezone/Tentacruel if needed and I know I can to boost them up and go from there or I dish out some mean damage with Psyshock. I am aware that A Dark Type can render this usless but when they switch in I usually am subed and Baton pass onto whatever I believe to be my safest Bet!. I have considered changing this to a Offensive set. Keeping Sub Calm Mind and replacing Baton pass with HP fighting.

Sir Pickles (Infernape) (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Iron Fist
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Mach Punch
This is my Banded Infernape. I needed a fire type so I picked him. Flare Blitz/Choice Band hits hard and so does the rest of his moves. He lets me mach punch Terrakion if it stays in or U Turn out as a good scout in the beggining. I though of replacing him for Breloom since I have 2 pokemon with HP fire but I do not know if I will yet. I though about getting rid of Mach Punch for Stone Edge but I like the priorty kill? Let me know what you guys think.

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Trait: Magnet Pull
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 36 HP / 252 SAtk / 220 Spd
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Magnezone helps lock in Walls and Scizor letting me take them out! I can get him Behind a sub so I can dish out some damage while they have to get through. I went with Flash Cannon to hit Tyranitar with I can usually 2HKO it if it switches in on one and then decides to say. The Thunderbolt is of course pure stab and is meant to dish out damage to my enemies! He is quite deadly behind his sub so I always try to get it but I know that is not always the case as well.

Let me know what you think I should change, Who I should Keep and so forth! Again All Suggestions Welcomed and Appreciated!

Hey there Ericthespy,

Hail teams certainly are tough to make and even more difficult to make a good one one. With all other weathers being more prominent and easier to use its hard for hail to be as successful. Though don't despair I recommend you keep on testing and improving.

Others and I can't really give you a proper rate without changing 3+ of the Pokemon. One thing though is your team doesn't synergize that well. Many of the teams seem like they just been slapped on there. I recommend taking look at some other successful hail teams and guides. Try to to find some standard sets that are used with hail.

Here is a recent article from the Smog that can certainly help you! Study and test out what it's says.

Weather Analysis: Hail

Along with that take a look at Battling 101.

Best of luck!

Hey dude welcome to Smogon! First thing you'll notice is you'll get good fast. On to the rate.

I believe ALL hail teams should utilise a Kyruem (whether it be normal, black or white). As BattleStar has already said, check out the Hail Weather Analysis.

Banded Infernape, if you need a fire type pokemon, I suggest Heatran. Infernape is greatly prone to hazards, and your hail is no exception sadly.

On your mamoswine, what nature is he? It is best to make him a jolly nature user so he can outspeed Adamant Breloom and Lucarios. Another addition I suggest is Superpower, it gives you more coverage, so you can take icicle crash for superpower

I would also check this page out for creative sets that could help you out

On a sidde note, its highly recommended to use images as they make it easier for user to evaluate your team (style points). Enjoy your time here bro!

Hello.

Cool hail team you got there (pun intended). Hail is certianly hard to pull of in today's metagame, but you seem to have hit the nail on the head with this team, so props for that. Anyways, this team seems to be really well put together, and hopefully with my rate, it can become even better than it already is. So without further adu, let's get into the rate! First up, I suggest that you use a SubRoost Kyurem in place of your current Mamoswine. SubRoost Kyurem takes advantage of Kyurems above average bulk, a nice variety of abilities, a great ability in Pressure and a wide variety in coverage moves. Moving on, Espeon isn't that great on Hail teams, so I suggest a Calm Mind Latias in place of it. Latias has a great Special Attack and solid Special Defense, which allows her to switch in multiple times over the course of a match to take some hard hits or even set up for a sweep. Last, but not least, I would recommend a Special Defensive Heatran in place of your Infernape. Heatrans nice defensive stats and solid resistances make it a great bulky Stealth Rocker, as it allows your offensive Pokemon to sweep. Well, that's all I have to say for now. I hope my advice helped. Have fun and good luck with your team!

Hey!

Welcome to Online Pokemon! If you're willing to put in the effort, I guarantee you can be successful. My personal recommendation is to practice as much as possible and learn through experience. When you feel you're ready, head over to Smogon's Battling 101 program to get some tips from the pros. Anyway, I think you've done a lot of good things with this team already. Hail teams need to be focused on a certain goal, which I think is a little lacking right now. You have no real "goal," and Pokemon like Espeon, Infernape, and Tentacruel look out of place.

First off, I think Tentacruel would be much better off as an Offensive Starmie. Use Thunderbolt / Hydro Pump / Blizzard / Rapid Spin. You can choose between Life Orb and Leftovers, but I'd probably go with Leftovers. Hail will wear you down very quickly. Starmie will do a lot to support your team. It establishes and offensive presence as well as maintaining your Spinner role. Starmie also lures Pokemon like Tyranitar so that you can weaken it more efficiently. Blizzard will hit really hard and the Freeze chance is more than annoying.

Second, Espeon definitely needs replacement. I think this would be the most opportune place to use a Hail Sweeper. The first one that comes to mind is Sub Roost Kyurem. Use Substitute / Roost / Earth Power / Ice Beam for your moves with Leftovers or Life Orb as your choice. The EVs on site should be fine too. I usually tweak them a little bit based on what my overall goals. Since yours is Offensive, you could probably put a little more Sp Atk on the site analysis, but it's not a huge deal either way. Kyurem is a huge pain for Rain teams because of its high Special Defense and resistance to Water moves. It also hits Tornadus-t and other Rain Spam Pokemon with non-water sweeping moves. Since Hail is a major Scizor/Jirachi magnet, Kyurem will definitely lure them for Magnezone, and it will be even more effective with them gone.

Finally, Infernape is really bad because it's just weak. If you want Choice Band fighting moves, there are Pokemon with much higher attack like Terrakion. If you want to U-turn for momentum, Scizor is a lot better. On top of that, Infernape is worn down incredibly easily by Hail, Hazards, and generally being weak. My recommendation for your team is Sub SD Terrakion. As I mentioned earlier in my Kyurem suggestion, Hail lures in Scizor and Jirachi like nothing else. Scizor is the biggest threat to Terrakion, and Magnezone should be able to kill it for you. On top of that, Terrakion is a huge threat for Tyranitar, Sand Teams, and Ferrothorn. Any good Sand team should have good switchins + Sweepers for the other Weathers since it's so difficult to maintain Hail. The combo of Terrakion + Kyurem has excellent syngery as well as Rain/Sand Coverage.

Good luck!
