ORAS OU New to the game new to the challenge! Something bulky.

Hello friends

I started to play pokemon ORAS 1 week ago and I'm having a blast building different teams and setups and well I could need a helping hand here.

While playing the game I found out that the more bulkyish playstyle suits me better since I like heavy switching and tanking. I'm trying to build a team without any legendaries since I kinde like the challenge building some mixed-up balanced teams without any of them. Since I'm still kinda new to the OU gameplay I'd appreciate any kind of feedback and advice. =)

Enough of the talk lets see the team!

Details and thoughts behind it and yes I am using the F/G/W core AND 3 starter pokemon ^^:

swampert.gif
@ Leftovers
EVs: 240 HP / 16 ATK / 252 DEF
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Torrent

Stealth Rock
Roar
Earthquake
Ice Beam

I decided to use Swampert as both my Stealth Rock lead as well as my physical wall and phazer. I kinda like the type combination which kinda suits perfectly in this setup. I decided to pick Ice Beam over Scald because I wanted a good move when predicting an incoming Plant or Flying type. It's sad that Torrent is kinda useless in that case but I don't see the reasoning behind Scald since I also run Earthquake which destroys many Fire type pokemon as well. You could possible argue that Charrizard X / Y could be a problem but overall I liked Ice Beam more so far. It's also the superior move vs Gliscor.

venusaur-mega.gif
@ Venusaurite
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Nature: Modest
Ability: Thick Fat

Synthesis
Giga Drain
Slugde Bomb
Earthquake
My beloved bulky fat mega special attacker. Venusaur brings already a lot of bulk to the table so I decided to not push more stats into defense and to play the more offensive version to deal a lot of DMG with the 2 STAB moves which both cover threats I faced so far. Earthquake over HP Fire just because of personal preference. I do like Earthquake more.

klefki.gif
@ Light Clay
EVs: 252 HP / 4 DEF / 252 SpD
Nature: Calm
Ability: Prankster

Reflect
Light Screen
Thunder Wave
Play Rough
This was a tough one. I was looking for hours for a good SpD kindish pokemon which could also provide good supportive nature to my team. Well...it's like Klefki got the right keys for my team. Since my team is more of the slowish kind Thunder Wave + both shield are HUGE for my setup. I took Play Rough to have at least one STAB move which also has a supportive nature with the -1 on ATK and which comes always handy vs some dragons. It also gives me an out to Taunt.

mandibuzz.gif
@ Rocky Helmet
EVs: 248 HP / 136 DEF / 108 SpD / 16 Spe
Nature: Bold
Ability: Overcoat

Roost
Toxic
Taunt
Foul Play
Another bulky wall. This time with mixed defenses. My friends I started to play ORAS with already yell 24/7 when they see my Mandibuzz just because it's such a pest to play against. This setup was chosen to counter hard healing walls which could cause some problems to me and to simply annoy the hell outta my opponents. Foul Play is a nobrainer in here with 0 investment into offensive stats as my Dark Attack of Choice.

scizor.gif
Choice Band
EVs: 248 HP / 252 ATK/ 8 Spe
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Technician

Bullet Punch
U-turn
Knock Off
Superpower
WOW. What a powerhorse. Scizor is my Atk sweeper of choice. Bullet Punch is simply roflmao with Technician and Choice Band, having a switch-in attack with so many bulky things and with Klefkis shields always comes in handy. To have 1 Knock Off in a team is always effective and Superpower can OHKO many many things which is also very strong. Since I can shut down many things with Stealth Rock, Toxin or Thunder Wave and by having Klefkis shields Scizor can wreck havoc just as he pleases.

infernape.gif
@ Life Orb
EVs: 168 ATK / 88 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Hasty
Ability: Blaze

Close Combat
Flamethrower
Thunder Punch
Grass Knot
The last on the road. I like Infernape just simply he's a cool monkey dood. I was looking for a good mixed sweeper and I found Infernape and to be honst I'm not even sure if he's the best pick. All I knew was that I was looking for something more to soak up Fire DMG in worst case and who does not instant wipe when switching into Stealth Rock since I do not play any defogger or spinner. I picked Close Combat and Flamethrower for 2 safer STAB moves though Flamethrower could be replaced. It's just I simply like it more. It's my favorite Fire Skill so far. Thunder Punch because I'm kinda afraid of Gyarados and Grass Knot is just a nice skill overall.

Well guys....that's it. Like I said, I'm still a beginner and maybe my setup is terribad and I'm weak against threats I'm not aware off....this is where you guys come in handy.

Thx in advance and see ya around! :D

Morning, this is an interesting team you have here. Welcome to Smogon.

swampert.gif

First up is Swampert. According to your points, you choose it as your lead because of Stealth Rock and of its type combination. However, you said that it destroys many Fire Types in general, when versing many teams, besides Heatran, Fire-Types generally are not leads in OU. I would recommend another Stealth Rock user other than Swampert, such as Landorus-Therian. Landorus-Therian is a premier Stealth-Rock user in OU that doesn't fear Gliscor very much. Landorus-Therian also checks Taloflame, who ravages the majority of this team. Landorus-Therian, with Intimidate, can set up Stealth Rock against Mega Charizard X, although generally speaking, it loses to Mega Charizard Y. However, Swampert loses to Mega Charizard Y due to Solar Beam so that wouldn't be an object at the moment. Swampert struggles with common leads in OU such as Ferrothorn and Garchomp, while Landorus-Therian checks both of those. Landorus-Therian is also a better physical wall in particular and can pivot out with U-Turn for reference later on in the battle.

mandibuzz.gif

Next is Mandibuzz. As a trainer who has used Mandibuzz very much, I will still say that there is a better physical wall to defog than Mandibuzz. I would suggest Latios or Skarmory. Latios is a offensive powerhouse that can put pressure on the opposing team, while Skarmory has high physical defense, taking neutrality from Stealth Rock, and it being a physically bulky. Either one is your choice, while Skarmory is probably a better choice.

infernape.gif

Third is Infernape. Infernape is probably not your best choice for a Mixed Attacker, as it isn't powerful for the threats in OU, generally speaking. If you want a mixed attacker that can soak up Fire-Type attacks, you should probably consider Mega Diancie. Even though it takes up your Mega Slot, your Fire Problems are pretty much done after that, as Infernape does not have the bulk to even take resisted hits from Pokemon such as Mega Charizard. There are others, but that is the only one I can think of right now.

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Brave Bird
- Whirlwind

Diancie @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 32 Atk / 224 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Earth Power
- Protect

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power Fire
- Defog

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

In conclusion, the changes are:

I always enjoy coming across new players to our community here at Smogon! Welcome!
Moving forward let's address the team..
I agree with Subjator that Swampert probably needs to be switched.. The tankier stealth rocker is obsolete, that is something you only see in DPP(4th gen). If you still wish to stay on the path of using no legendaries(that's also how i began, it's just a phase, you'll start using legendaries ;P ) then i would recommend Garchomp > Swampert.. Helmet Chomp is used on about 25% of all OU Teams and there is a reason why.. It is one of the best(if not the best) rockers in OU. Standard Helmet Chomp Spread below:
Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 248 HP / 160 Def / 100 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Dragon Tail
- Earthquake
The Spe EV's are specifically to outspeed base 70 Jolly pokemon, (bisharp, breloom) and the rest is thrown into bulk for maximum longevity. This also helps serve as a decent bird check so that talonflame is not as big as an issue. It has decent synergy with Mega-Venusaur as well.
The rest of your team could definitely be cleaned up and you could throw more standard stuff, and get rid of things like Mandibuzz and Ape, but although you don't see them often, doesn't mean they aren't viable.
That being said the only thing i would change is Flare Blitz > Flamethrower on Ape.. If you wish to run special, then
Fire Blast > Flamethrower.
^this really comes down to personal preference but the majority of people will use Fire Blast over Flamethrower at the highest competitive levels.
I think that's it. Like I said, i could really rip your team apart in analysis and change so much if i wanted but that would ruin the point of an RMT. Atleast i feel that way. I hope you become more enthralled in our community and in pokemon!
Also a tip: if you want to easily post pokemon's move sets, EV spreads, etc (like my defensive garchomp above) i recommend you to go on pokemonshowdown, and export the paste from there. So, go to the teambuilder and there should be an import/export button for both your team and individual pokemon. Its just more convienent to look at and type. Hope that makes sense.
Hope this helped and if you could check me out on Youtube i would appreciate it!
My channel is on my profile page if you're interested :]

Tyvm for the replies guys :)
The reason why I mostly dont wanna play legendaries, is coz I'm more or less playing on 3DS. :)
But you guys are totally right so far. After some testing I guess I shud get rid of swampert, mandibuzz and infernape.
This leaves me with venusaur, klefki and scizor though I'm thinking of switching something here as well. I love all 3 of them but hell I'm so vulnerable to fire....a Glurak Y beat almost my whole team by himself...Solar Beam for Swampert and then BOOM burning my team T.T

Since I'm not the hyper offensive player and since I like the bulky stuff I still guess I need some good screeners and maybe paralyze user to get rid of fast threats.

And THX for the welcome :D
