I've recently made a trick room team and was looking for advice on improvements that could be made. I nabbed a good bit of these sets from watching the regional tournaments this year. I'll admit to not being the most creative, but with school and all that's going on right now, I don't have as much time to come up with my own sets. Anyway, the team consists of:
Prankster Grimmsnarl; Light Clay
All best except SpA
+Def -SpA; 252HP, 252Def, 4SpD
-Taunt
-Light Screen
-Reflect
-Spirit Break
Grimmsnarl is adapted from the singles all-status-move set, except I elected to keep spirit break as a method of lowering SpA on the opposing side rather than t-wave (also bc why lower speed for the opposition in my trick room?). I elected for taunt to try and prevent opposing setups like trick room or follow me (grimmsnarl will also be utility on my other teams, so taunt fits him in the event of opposing trick room teams). He is typically my lead along with rotom or hatterene, depending on the opponent's party.
Magic Bounce G-Max Hatterene; Life Orb
31/0/31/31/31/0
+SpA -Spe; 252HP, 252SpA, 4Def
-Trick Room
-Mystical Fire
-Psychic
-Dazzling Gleam
Hatterene is my team's main special attacker and primary trick room setter (for now). I'm mostly confident about the moveset and enjoy the benefits from having a magic bouncer on a slow team, but if she can be better optimized, by all means, tell me how. I do find myself disappointed with her as a lead because she lacks the bulk after screens to survive being doubled by opponents with much offensive investment. I typically run her alongside grimmsnarl to provide defense boosts and allow my late game sweepers to come in with trick room and screens established, but it might be too much pressure for Hatterene to be responsible for setting up the trick room.
Frisk Dusclops; Eviolite
31/0/31/31/0/31/0
+SpD -Spe; 252SpD, 252HP, 4Def
-Trick Room
-Bulldoze
-Night Shade
-Will-o-Wisp
Dusclops runs bulldoze to sidepop rhyperior and trigger weakness policy if need be. He also tends to wait in back and be my late game setter due to his additional bulk, but hatterene's lack of bulk is often costing me trick room early in games so I may revise that strategy.
Solid Rock Rhyperior; Weakness Policy
All best except attack (30) and speed (0)
+Att -Spe; 252HP 252 Att 4Def
-Protect
-Hammer Arm
-Rock Slide
-High Horsepower
Rhyperior is the main offense and usually waits in the back to sweep late game and post screens. Protect is in case I haven't set up trick room yet, or would otherwise want to bide time. I considered adding fire punch to cover durant and ferrothorn, but I think after a weakness policy/max knuckle boost, STAB would be just as useful.
Gluttony G-Max Snorlax; Aguav Berry
All best except speed (0)
+Att -Spe; 252 HP 252Att 4Def
-Belly Drum
-Body Slam
-Darkest Lariat
-Heat Crash
Snorlax is here mostly because I don't have a flame orb for a conkeldurr (but thanks for the wishing pieces, Ball Guy). I might keep snorlax, however, because the threat of gigantamaxing plays mind games with the opponent, he possesses great special bulk, and decent physical post-screen, the threat of thick fat, and his ghost immunity. Once I get that coveted flame orb, however, the lax can always be kept as an alternate to the much more offensively threatening conkeldurr that doesn't need to give up half of its HP for its offense and can threaten with priority mach punch.
Rotom-W; Sitrus Berry
All best except attack (0)
+Speed -Attack; 252 SpA 252 Spe 4HP
-Nasty Plot
-Volt Switch
-Hydro Pump
-Dark Pulse
I'm not very sure about rotom's set or his place on this team. He was supposed to be the only counter in the event that setting up trick room wasn't favorable or possible, but I'm not sure he's the best fit for that role. His spread is also somewhat troublesome to me because I'd like to have him be as fast as possible for counter situations, but modest would make him more powerful and marginally more viable in trick room.
So far the fledgling team is 4-1 in ranked play (and the 1 loss was definitely more of my poor predictions than the team's wellroundedness), but we are always looking to improve. I've not done anything in the way of damage calculation nor done much in dept viewing of coverage move within the meta or at large. Thanks for the help.
