Smogon's mascot, Koffing, has been spreading noxious gas around the NFE battlefield! Poison-types are a rare commodity, aside from Ivysaur, Mareanie, and opposing Koffing; this makes Toxic Spikes unbearable for unprepared teams since they primarily rely on Rapid Spin from Quaxwell for hazard removal or Hattrem for hazard detterence. Neutralizing Gas is the ability of choice for Koffing to absorb opposing Toxic Spikes as well as allowing it to use Thief on Pickpocket Tinkatuff, and to remove Servine's Contrary and Naclstack's Purifying Salt. Koffing's great typing and bulk with reliable recovery in Pain Split make it a great check against strong physically offensive attackers like Thwackey and Raboot. Thief is a great way to steal items after it is hit with Knock Off by Tinkatuff, Ivysaur, and the aforementioned Thwackey. Will-O-Wisp sets strong breakers like Fraxure, Gabite, and Pilowswine ablaze, rendering them useless. Koffing really struggles against special attackers like Girafarig and Hisuian Sliggoo, making Tinkatuff and Dunsparce great teammates since they can take these foes. Koffing can have a tough time against Ground-types like Gabite and Piloswine, so the likes of Quaxwell and Fletchinder are helpful to combat them.
