1v1 Nihilego [ QC 3 / 3 ] [ GP 2 /2 ] [DONE]

[OVERVIEW]

Nihilego is capable of both attacking and tanking to a respectable extent. Its advantage lies in its Rock / Poison typing, which is good offensively against major forces in the 1v1 metagame in Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y. This, when combined with Nihilego's high Speed stat that lets it just outspeed them, makes it a decent counter to those Pokemon. Nihilego's formidable special bulk allows it to tank strong moves like a Hydro Pump from Choice Specs Tapu Fini with appropriate investment. Also, Nihilego can utilize Continental Crush to better counter opposing Rock-, Ice-, and Fire-type Pokemon. Although it has base 47 Defense, it is not too frail physically, and can tank Iron Tail from Haxorus by using some investment in Defense. Thus, Nihilego's capabilities lie in it being both a fast sweeper and a fairly bulky attacker as well. Having said this, its bulk is just not enough to tank super effective physical moves, and its 4x weakness to Ground can be easily taken advantage of by many physical attackers. Also, Nihilego's typing means that it struggles against Steel-type Pokemon as well, most of which it can't KO due to its lack of strong coverage moves. Nihilego's low Defense stat also means that it can't tank stronger physical attacks from Pokemon faster than it like Durant, Terrakion, and Earthquake Mega Pinsir.

ability: Beast Boost

evs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 12 SpA / 80 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
=======

Acid Spray can be used to weaken bulky Pokemon like Mega Slowbro, Calm Mind Mega Sableye, Amnesia Mega Venusaur, and Stockpile Toxapex while not having to worry about being afflicted with Taunt. Substitute blocks Thunder Wave, Mirror Coat, and sleep-inducing moves, which lets Nihilego more easily beat Pokemon like Thunder Wave Togekiss, Mirror Coat Mega Blastoise, and Yawn Snorlax. It also helps in potentially tanking Z-Moves it might encounter in totally unpredictable match-ups. Power Gem helps in defeating Mega Charizard Y, Mega Charizard X, and other Fire-, Ice-, and Bug-type Pokemon. Sludge Wave is helpful against Fairy-type Pokemon like Tapu Bulu and Whimsicott. Mirror Coat is also an option, since it could help in beating some special attackers like Heatran and Choice Specs Genesect.

Set Details
=======

252 HP EVs and 164 Defense EVs allow Nihilego to tank a Zen Headbutt from Adamant Choice Scarf Victini and an Outrage from Mega Charizard X, while the 80 EVs in Special Defense let it take a Psychic from Choice Specs Meloetta. The remainder of the EVs go into Special Attack and are used with a Modest nature, allowing Nihilego to take out all variants of Mega Charizard X with Continental Crush. Rockium Z converts Power Gem into a strong 160-Base Power Continental Crush.

Usage Tips
=======

Nihilego's Rock / Poison typing means it can be sent out against Fire-, Ice-, Bug-, and Fairy-type Pokemon, since Nihilego has an edge over them. Since its primary targets are defensive Pokemon, the best course of action would be to use Substitute followed by Acid Spray and then finish with Continental Crush. Try to avoid sending Nihilego in against Steel-type Pokemon, because it has nothing to use against them. Keep in mind when deciding to use Nihilego against Mega Charizard X that variants with Earthquake or an Adamant nature can beat Nihilego.

Team Options
=======

Nihilego cannot handle Ground-type attacks, so Mega Blastoise can be used as a teammate to counter Pokemon that usually carry Ground-type moves, like Zygarde, Dragonite, Sturdy Pokemon like Donphan and Golem, and Ground-type Pokemon, with Nihilego covering Mega Blastoise's Grass-type weakness in return. Since Nihilego struggles against Steel-type Pokemon like Mega Metagross, Magearna, and Mega Mawile, Ground-type Pokemon like Zygarde can be used as teammates; Nihilego can also cover Zygarde's Ice-type weakness. Nihilego can handle most Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon, so Pokemon like Mega Heracross can be used to lure in these Pokemon, with Mega Heracross also defeating Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Donphan, Golem, and Jumpluff for Nihilego. Some physically bulky Pokemon like Mega Aggron and Mega Slowbro can be used to help accommodate for Nihilego's poor physical bulk, and Nihilego can support them by being a special tank in return.

Moves
=======

Power Gem is Nihilego's Rock-type STAB move, allowing it to KO Fire-, Bug-, and Flying-type Pokemon like Blacephalon, Incineroar, Mega Charizard X, Volcarona, and Mega Charizard Y. Sludge Wave lets Nihilego beat Grass- and Fairy-type Pokemon like Whimsicott and the Island Guardians. Nihilego's third moveslot can be tailored to fit what is needed for the team; Hidden Power Ice can be used to KO Landorus-T, and Garchomp, while Hidden Power Fire can be used to cover Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, and slower Kartana. Psychic lets Nihilego hit some Poison-type Pokemon like Naganadel and Mega Venusaur, Thunderbolt lets it hit Flying-type Pokemon like Celesteela, and Dazzling Gleam can be used to KO Kommo-o, Krookodile, and Hydreigon. Acid Spray is another option that can be used to beat Mega Venusaur and Mega Slowbro.

Set Details
=======

252 Special Attack EVs in conjunction with Choice Specs allow Nihilego to OHKO maximum HP Mega Charizard X. 252 Speed EVs along with Timid nature let it outspeed maximum Speed Garchomp. Choice Specs maximizes Nihilego's overall damage output.

Usage Tips
=======
Use Acid Spray when you are up against Special Defense-boosting passive Pokemon like Mega Slowbro, Amnesia Mega Venusaur, and Amnesia Deoxys-S. If you have Psychic and Acid Spray in the same set, always opt for Acid Spray against Mega Venusaur. Make sure to bring Nihilego in against threats like Kommo-o and Naganadel that it can KO depending on whether it has Dazzling Gleam or Psychic as a coverage move. Also, Nihilego can be sent out on non-Choice Scarf Landorus-T, since Nihilego KOes Landorus-T with Hidden Power Ice.

Team Options
=======

Nihilego's low Defense and weakness to Ground-type attacks make Ice-type Pokemon with considerable physical bulk like Avalugg and Cloyster fit in very well as partners. Nihilego's typing and inability to handle Steel- and Ground-type Pokemon make it almost a necessity to have a Pokemon like Mega Gyarados or Mega Blastoise that can beat them; these two are also good teammates because Nihilego can take care of Grass-types for them. Since Nihilego can struggle against Water-types, Grass-type Pokemon like Kartana, which can also run Sacred Sword to counter Dark-types, can be used to beat them. Also, Nihilego's weakness to Psychic and Steel makes Volcarona a viable teammate for Nihilego, as it can beat Pokemon like Mega Metagross and Mega Lucario. Fast Mega Heracross is also a good teammate, as it can beat Jumpluff, Heatran, Mega Gyarados, and Sturdy users, all of which trouble Nihilego, and Nihilego can beat Fairy- and Fire-types to support Mega Heracross in return.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=======
As Nihilego has a good Speed tier, it can viably run a faster spread with either Poisonium Z or Rockium Z to serve as a better check to Curse Mimikyu. However, this set is not bulky and relies on the Z-Move KOing the foe to be effective. Nihilego can also utilize an Air Balloon with a Modest nature and Hidden Power Ice to lure in Pokemon that use Ground-type moves, such as Mega Pinsir, Choice Band Dragonite, and Choice Scarf Landorus-T. However, the Air Balloon set is only useful as a lure and does not deal a lot of damage.

Checks and Counters
=======

**Ground-type Pokemon and Coverage**: Ground-type Pokemon like Zygarde check Nihilego, since they resist both of Nihilego's STAB attacks. Also, Earthquake from Pokemon like Dragonite and Mega Pinsir can take out Nihilego very easily due to its 4x weakness to Ground.

**Steel-type Pokemon**: Steel-types like Mega Lucario, Magearna, Mega Metagross, and Ferrothorn check Nihilego because its Poison-type attacks deal no damage and its Rock-type attacks are not very effective.

**Special Tanks**: Necrozma and Mega Gyarados can handle Nihilego's special moves easily and deal heavy damage in return with their respective STAB attacks.

**Faster Physical Attackers**: Almost all faster physical attackers like Durant, Archeops, and Kartana outspeed Nihilego and KO it with their respective STAB moves.

**Sturdy Pokemon**: Common threats with Sturdy in the 1v1 metagame include Donphan, Golem, and Crustle; Nihilego is disadvantaged against these Pokemon, as they can endure one attack from it and KO it in return.

**Strong Super Effective Attackers**: Nihilego is easily cracked by Pokemon like Mega Blastoise that can survive its attacks and retaliate with strong super effective STAB attacks such as Hydro Cannon.

Sludge Wave is helpful against Fairy-type Pokemon, like the Guardian Deities.

Nihilego's low Defense and weakness to Ground make Ice-type Pokemon like Avalugg and Cloyster, which have considerable physical bulk, fit in very well with Nihilego. Nihilego's typing and inability to handle Steel- and Ground-type Pokemon make it a near necessity to have a counter to these Pokemon, like Mega Gyarados or Mega Blastoise, and these go well with each other, considering Nihilego takes care of their Grass weakness. Since Nihilego is weak to Water-types, Grass-type Pokemon like Kartana and Mega Sceptile could be used to counter Water-types. In this context, Kartana is much more relevant and more useful, since it could run Sacred Sword to counter Dark-type Pokemon. Also, Nihilego's weakness to Psychic- and Steel-type Pokemon makes Volcarona a viable teammate for Nihilego to cover its Psychic and Steel weaknesses against Pokemon like Mega Metagross and Mega Lucario. Fast Mega Heracross is also a good teammate for Nihilego, since the latter is weak to Sturdy Pokemon, Jumpluff, Heatran, and Mega Gyarados, which Mega Heracross covers, and also since Nihilego covers Mega Heracross's Fairy and Rock weaknesses.

Strategy Comments

Other Options

Since Nihilego has a good Speed tier, it can be alternatively used as a fast Z-Move user, or the aforementioned EV set with Acid Downpour to check Fairy-types even better. A Choice Specs set with Hidden Power Fire or Ice and Dazzling Gleam instead of Substitute and Acid Spray could help it check Fighting-types and slower Ground-type Pokemon like Landorus-T in an easier way. However, these sets could be countered easily by Pokemon bulky enough to take the hits, and it is significantly tougher to bulk against a Z-Move user, since it takes a lot more EVs.

Choice Specs 31.468%
judging by this and the fact that Choice Specs Nihilego's counters are slightly different to those of the Rockium set,I propose you also add a Choice Specs set.

Checks and Counters

Substitute Stall Pokemon: Pokemon that utilize Substitute to stall like Toxapex can be tough to crack, since Nihilego depends on Acid Spray to get through bulky Pokemon.

1.Toxapex is probably not a good example since it's really uncommon.
2.Can't Nihilego defeat Toxapex by spamming Acid Spray until Toxapex gets to -6 Special Defense and then Z-Move?
What can Toxapex do in return?

Special Tanks: Meloetta and Mega Gyarados can handle Nihilego's special moves easily and return the damage in full with Psychic or Psyshock, and Waterfall respectively.

Sturdy Pokemon: Common Sturdy threats in the 1v1 metagame include Donphan, Golem, and Crustle, against which Nihilego is totally at a disadvantage since they can endure one attack from Nihilego and KO back with their own.

Strong STAB Hitters: Nihilego is easily cracked by Pokemon that can survive its attacks and return with strong super effective STAB attacks, like Mega Blastoise's Hydro Cannon.

Steel-type Pokemon: Steel-types like Mega Lucario, Magearna, Mega Metagross, and Ferrothorn check Nihilego because its Poison-type attacks deal no damage and Rock-type attacks are not very effective.

Ground-type Pokemon: Ground-types like Garchomp and Landorus-T also check Nihilego, since they resist both of Nihilego's STAB attacks.

Choice Specs Nihilego hard counters Garchomp and Landorus-T since it usually runs Hidden Power Ice.

Also,you should write a separate checks and counters section for each set since some of them differ.
Also adjust the paragraphs to each set (remove Choice Specs from Other Options etc.

Acid Spray can be used to weaken opposing bulky Pokemon like Calm Mind (regardless of whether it's CM or amnesia, acid spray will help you win) Mega Slowbro, Calm Mind Mega Sableye, Amnesia Mega Venusaur, and Stockpile Toxapex while not having to worry about being Taunted because it deals damage as well. Substitute blocks Thunder Wave, Mirror Coat, and sleep-inducing moves, since Nihilego could be the target for Yawn users like Snorlax, Mega Blastoise, and Thunder Wave Togekiss. It also helps in tanking random, possibly fatal, Z-Moves it might encounter in totally clueless matchups. Power Gem helps in defeating Mega Charizard Y, and Mega Charizard X and, by extension, other Fire-, Ice-, and Bug-type Pokemon. Sludge Wave is helpful against Fairy-type Pokemon, like the Guardian Deities.

248 HP /164 Defense EVs allow Nihilego to tank a Zen Headbutt from Adamant Choice Scarf Victini and an Outrage from Mega Charizard X, while 248HP/84 SpD EVs lets it live Psychic from Choice Specs Meloetta. The rest of the EVs go into the Special Attack to allow Nihilego to take out all Mega Charizards with Continental Crush. Rockium Z converts Power Gem into a strong 160-Base Power Continental Crush, which is required to take out Charizard.

Nihilego's Rock / Poison typing means it can be sent against Fire-, Ice-, Bug-, and Fairy-type Pokemon, since Nihilego has an edge over them. Since its primary targets are stall Pokemon, the best course of action would be to use Substitute followed by Acid Spray and then finishing with Continental Crush or Acid Downpour, depending on the type. Try to avoid sending it in against Steel-type Pokemon, because Nihilego has nothing to use against them. Since some Mega Charizard X variants might carry Earthquake, while some others may be Adamant nature, this must be kept in mind before choosing this Nihilego versus a Mega Charizard X.

Team Options

Fast Mega Heracross is also a good teammate for Nihilego, since the latter is weak to Sturdy Pokemon, Jumpluff, Heatran, and Mega Gyarados, which Mega Heracross covers, and also since Nihilego covers Mega Heracross's Fairy and Fire-type weaknesses.

Psychic lets it some Poison-type Pokemon like Naganadel and Mega Venusaur, Thunderbolt lets it hit Water- and Flying-type Pokemon like Celesteela, and Mega Slowbro, Dazzling Gleam nets the KO on KommoO, Krookodile, and Hydreigon, Hidden Power [Ice] for Landorus and Garchomp, and Hidden Power [Fire] for Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, and slower Kartana.

Other Options

Since Nihilego has a good Speed tier, it can be alternatively used as a fast Z-Move user (note that speedy Z move Nihilego beats cursekyu), or the aforementioned EV set with Acid Downpour to check Fairy-types even better. It could also use an Air Balloon to lure in Ground-type Pokemon like Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Earthquake Mega Pinsir. However, these sets could be countered easily by Pokemon bulky enough to take the hits, and it is significantly tougher to bulk against a Z-Move user, since it takes a lot more EVs.

Checks and Counters

Special Tanks: Meloetta, Necrozma and Mega Gyarados can handle Nihilego's special moves easily and return the damage in full with Psychic or Psyshock, and Waterfall respectively.

Ground-type Pokemon and coverage: Ground-types like Zygarde also check Nihilego, since they resist both of Nihilego's STAB attacks. Also, Earthquake from Pokemon like Dragonite or Mega Pinsir can take out Nihilego very easily since it's doubly weak to it.

Faster physical Pokemon: Almost all faster physical Pokemon like Durant, Archeops and Kartana KO Nihilego with their respective STAB moves.
Good work. QC 3/3

[OVERVIEW]

Nihilego is capable of decimation and tanking to a respectable extent. Its advantage lies in its Rock / Poison typing, which is offensively good against a major force in the 1v1 metagame, (RH) (AC) Charizard. This combined with a Speed stat that just barely outspeeds them makes it a decent counter to those Pokemon. Its formidable special bulk allows it to tank strong moves like such as a Hydro Pump from Choice Specs Tapu Fini with appropriate investment. Also, while it might seem to have a moderate base 127 Special Attack, Z-Moves help Nihilego in countering Rock-, Ice-, and Fire-type Pokemon if Continental Crush is used or Grass- and Fairy-type Pokemon if Acid Downpour is used. Although it has a base Defense of 47, it is physically not too frail and can tank Iron Tail from Haxorus with investment in Defense. Thus, Nihilego's capabilities lie in it being both a fast sweeper and a fairly bulky sweeper as well. Having said this, its bulk is just not enough to tank super effective physical moves, and due to its 4x weakness, (RC) to Ground Ground-types, is largely which are mostly made up of physical attacking Pokemon. Also, Nihilego's typing means that it is weak to Steel-type and Ground-type (No need to mention the Ground-type weakness again in the second sentence, in my opinion as it is repetitive) Pokemon as well, which it can't KO due to lack of coverage. Its low Defense stat also means that it is not able to completely wall all physical Pokemon faster than it like such as Earthquake Mega Pinsir, Durant, and Terrakion.

Acid Spray can be used to weaken opposing bulky Pokemon like such as Mega Slowbro, Calm Mind Mega Sableye, Amnesia Mega Venusaur, and Stockpile Toxapex while not having to worry about being Taunted because it deals damage as well. It Substitute also helps in tanking random, possibly fatal, Z-Moves it might encounter in totally clueless match-ups. (AH) Power Gem helps in defeating Mega Charizard Y, and Mega Charizard X and, by extension, other Fire-, Ice-, and Bug-type Pokemon. Sludge Wave is helpful against Fairy-type Pokemon, like such as Tapu Bulu and Whimsicott. Nihilego is capable of decimation both attacking (decimation implies killing, generally) and tanking to a respectable extent. Its advantage lies in its Rock / Poison typing, which is offensively good against a major force in the 1v1 metagame -Charizard major forces in the 1v1 metagame, (AC) Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y. This combined with a Speed stat that just outspeeds them makes it This, when combined with Nihilego's high Speed stat that lets it just outspeed them, makes it a decent counter to those Pokemon. Its Nihilego's formidable special bulk allows it to tank strong moves like a Hydro Pump from Choice Specs Tapu Fini with appropriate investment. Also, while it might seem to have a moderate base 127 Special Attack, Z-Moves help Nihilego in countering Rock-, Ice-, and Fire-type Pokemon if Continental Crush is used or Grass- and Fairy-type Pokemon if Acid Downpour is used. Also, it can utilize Continental Crush to better counter opposing Rock-, Ice-, and Fire-type Pokemon. (old sentence implied the two z-moves were about equal in viability, which they aren't, as acid downpour is nowhere other than oo) Although it has a base Defense of 47, it is physically not too frail and can tank Iron Tail from Haxorus with by using some investment in Defense. Thus, Nihilego's capabilities lie in it being both a fast sweeper and a fairly bulky sweeper as well. (is it really possible to sweep in 1v1) Having said this, its bulk is just not enough to tank super effective physical moves, and its 4x weakness to Ground , is largely made up of physical attacking Pokemon can be easily taken advantage of by many physical attackers. Also, Nihilego's typing means that it is weak to struggles against Steel-type Pokemon as well, most of which it can't KO due to lack of coverage its lack of strong coverage moves. Its Nihilego's low Defense stat also means that it is not able to completely wall all physical Pokemon faster than it like Earthquake Mega Pinsir, Durant, and Terrakion, (AC) and Earthquake Mega Pinsir.

Acid Spray can be used to weaken opposing bulky Pokemon like Mega Slowbro, Calm Mind Mega Sableye, Amnesia Mega Venusaur, and Stockpile Toxapex while not having to worry about being Taunted because it deals damage as well afflicted with Taunt. Substitute blocks Thunder Wave, Mirror Coat, and sleep-inducing moves, since Nihilego could be the target for Yawn users like Snorlax, Mega Blastoise, and Thunder Wave Togekiss which lets Nihilego more easily beat Pokemon like Thunder Wave Togekiss, Mirror Coat Mega Blastoise, and Yawn Snorlax. It also helps in tanking random, possibly fatal, Z-Moves it might encounter in totally clueless match-ups. Power Gem helps in defeating Mega Charizard Y, and Mega Charizard X and, by extension, (keep comma) and other Fire-, Ice-, and Bug-type Pokemon. Sludge Wave is helpful against Fairy-type Pokemon, (RC) like Tapu Bulu and Whimsicott. Mirror Coat is also another an option, since it could help in beating some special attackers like Heatran and Choice Specs Genesect.

248 HP / 164 Defense EVs and 164 Defense EVs allow Nihilego to tank a Zen Headbutt from Adamant Choice Scarf Victini and an Outrage from Mega Charizard X, while 248 HP / 84 SpD EVs the investment in Special Defense lets allows it to live take a Psychic from Choice Specs Meloetta. The rest of the EVs go into the Special Attack stat to allow The remainder of the EVs go into Special Attack with a Modest nature, allowing Nihilego to take out all Mega Charizard variants of Mega Charizard X with Continental Crush. (MZY doesn't need cont. crush to get koed, i'm p sure it just loses to power gem) Rockium Z converts Power Gem into a strong 160-Base Power Continental Crush, (RC) which is required to take out Charizard. (redundant with the above)

Usage Tips
=======

Nihilego's Rock / Poison typing means it can be sent out against Fire-, Ice-, Bug-, and Fairy-type Pokemon, since Nihilego has an edge over them. Since its primary targets are stall defensive Pokemon, the best course of action would be to use Substitute followed by Acid Spray and then finishing finish with Continental Crush or Acid Downpour, depending on the type. (not on the set, should't be mentioned.) Try to avoid sending it Nihilego in against Steel-type Pokemon, because Nihilego it has nothing to use against them. Since some Mega Charizard X variants might carry Earthquake, while some others may be Adamant nature, this must be kept in mind before choosing this Nihilego versus a Mega Charizard X. Keep in mind when deciding to use Nihilego against Mega Charizard X that variants of it with Earthquake or an Adamant nature can beat Nihilego.

Nihilego's low Defense and weakness to Ground-type attacks make Ice-type Pokemon like Avalugg and Cloyster, which have considerable physical bulk, fit in very well with Nihilego. Nihilego's typing and inability to handle Steel- and Ground-type Pokemon make it a near necessity to have a counter to these Pokemon, like Mega Gyarados or Mega Blastoise for instance, and these go well with each other, considering Nihilego takes care of their Grass-type weakness. Since Nihilego has a good Speed tier, it can be alternatively used as a fast Z-Move user, or the aforementioned EV set with Acid Downpour to check Fairy-types even better. This can also serve as a counter to Curse Mimikyu, one of the most difficult things to crack in 1v1, which bulkier versions fail at serving. It can also alternatively It could also use an Air Balloon to lure in Ground-type Pokemon like Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Earthquake Mega Pinsir. However, these sets could be countered easily by Pokemon bulky enough to take the hits, and it is significantly tougher to bulk against a Z-Move user, since it takes a lot more EVs.

Use Acid Spray when you are up against Special Defense-boosting (AH) passive Pokemon like Mega Slowbro, Amnesia Mega Venusaur, and Amnesia Deoxys-Speed. If you have Psychic and Acid Spray in the same set, always opt for Acid Spray against Mega Venusaur.
