No Ice. No Dragon. No Electric. No Worries?

This is a team I have been thinking of for a while. I have never played online, and never played a 4th Gen game. Though I think this team could go alright. I have watched many online battles and tried to incorporate some strategy into this team. Also, this is my first ever post for RMT. Please, give me your advice on this somewhat mediocre, yet surprising team. Could it be competitive online?

crobat.jpg

Crobat @ Focus Sash
Inner Focus – Modest (+ SpA – Atk)
4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Taunt Nasty Plot
Heat Wave Sludge Bomb

With Crobat first, most people would be expecting a taunt/hypnosis lead straight off the bat. Well, I have opted to attempt to set up this sweeper instead. Using taunt first turn may get people expecting a traditional moveset, so they switch to something which they don't mind falling asleep. This is when Crobat gets a Nasty Plot off. Sludge Bomb can take care of alot of things, and Heat Wave makes up for the Steel/Poison types Sludge Bomb can not touch. I do realise though something faster like an Aerodactyl with rock slide could ruin this set, though I think it is worth the try. If I don't think I could pull off the Nasty Plot set up, then I would switch straight after Taunt. Focus Sash is included so I am guarenteed a Nasty Plot in some cases.

claydol.jpg

Claydol @ Leftovers
Levitate – Careful (+ SpD – SpA)
252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD
Rapid Spin Light Screen
Stealth Rock Explosion

Basically here to set up some rocks, and get rocks off for Crobat if the sweep wasn't attempted in the first place. Light Screen is to also help Crobat with extra protection from Ice and Electric. Then I figured I can always just come in and Explode whenever I need to. I'm not too sure about how this Claydol helps with the team, as it may serve better as a lead. Though I couldn't ignore it's bulky stats, so I put this guy in as some extra support.

umbreon.jpg

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Synchronize –Calm (+ SpD – Atk)
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Mean Look Baton Pass
Curse Moonlight

Incase things go wrong, Umbreon can completely change the game. I'm not 100% sure about the EV spread, but if Umbreon can trap the right pokemon, it could potentially set up a sweep for a later pokemon. If you trap a fighting type, then a Pass immediately to Gengar. If you can trap something which can not take down Umbreon, then Curse and Moonlight up, eventually Passing to Hitmontop. If you trap something with Taunt, then a Pass to Snorlax is probably the best option. Umbreon can be crippled by Taunt, though once again, that is an educated risk I have to take.

hitmontop.jpg

Hitmontop @ Life Orb
Technician – Brave (+ Atk – Spe)
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Fake Out Mach Punch
Close Combat Sucker Punch

If Umbreon can pull off some Curses, then this Hitmontop could become very deadly. Loaded with Curse, priority moves, and Close Combat, this set could do serious damage by running through an entire team. Fake Out gets starting damage on the opponent, following with a Mach Punch/Sucker Punch following. Close Combat is included for extra power. Life Orb is included for power, though I was also thinking of a Focus Sash incase the Fake Punch combo doesn't kill the opponent, and I come up against something which could OHKO Hitmontop.

gengar.jpg

Gengar @ Leftovers
Levitate – Hasty (+ Spe – Def)
100 Atk / 156 SpA / 252 Spe
Shadow Ball Focus Punch
Substitute Hypnosis

I saw this moveset on a Gengar online and it worked wonders. With Gengars variety moveset, this guy posts another serious threat to opposing teams. With SubPunch, statues are not a problem, also packing serious damage. Hypnosis can shuffle the opposing team around abit, allowing me to scout out who they have. Shadow Ball is there for STAB and what SubPunch can not hit. I am really happy with this moveset for Gengar, and would believe it could help me get out of trouble at any time. Alot of people believe Thunderbolt is a must on Gengar, though I am opting not to go with it.

snorlax.jpg

Snorlax @ Leftovers
Thick Fat – Careful (+ SpD – SpA)
168 HP / 120 Def / 220 SpD
Curse Return
Rest Earthquake

This is your average CurseLax. I figured I need something to fall back on incase the rest of my team fails. This guy can also sweep a team by himself, with the correct set up. He is here to Curse and Rest up, eventually sweeping with Return and Earthquake. Obviously Gengar is his biggest threat, which renders him useless against the Ghost/Levitate combination. I believe if I can scout out the opponents team first with my own Gengar/Hypnosis, then I could use this guy at the perfect time.

Thanks for spending the time reading and evaluating my team. I will take all your judgements into consideration as I am new to this. If some EV'S look strange, then point them out because I sort of had no clue what I was doing. Thanks again :)

Edit: Just letting everyone know I have tested this team on Shoddy Battle mode, and it is basically a fail. The Crobat lead doesn't work, which means Claydol needs either a new set, or should get out. Umbreon is risky as if I trap the wrong thing I could end up hurting myself more than helping myself. Does anyone have any suggestions/replacement ideas for these 3?

Gengar needs some power so you won't be stalled out as much by bulky Waters, so I would recommend a set with Choice Specs/Scarf. Tricking those items to some wall will help the team overall. Because really, Suicune can stall the whole team out.

You could maybe get up Toxic Spikes to help with that too. A lot of people use the Roserade lead and everyone knows how to handle it, but it will still be better than Crobat because without Life Orb he won't be doing much damage and Modest is too slow.

Light Screen isn't really helping anywhere, so you would be better off with Gravity. Especially if you decide to get Toxic Spikes in there. Snorlax would be able to hit Flyers/Levitators with Earthquake so he could cause serious damage if you use the time wisely.

I also think you would be better off with Payback instead of Mean Look. Fighters will just Close Combat her to hell before she passes because it's not like Baton Pass has priority. Even Machamp often outspeeds you, and he doesn't care about being locked in with Gengar because his Payback should OHKO. I think the switch will be much better. I have swept teams right through Metagross in the past because Umbreon's defenses after a Curse are often too strong.

You can test the team on Shoddy Battle, the simulator affiliated with this website. It isn't a real representation of what you will see on Wifi, but at least it gives you some way to study the team before going online.

Good Luck.

I got bored and playtested this team on Shoddy. So far I've replaced every member but Hitmontop and Gengar for another poke (and even Gengar is trickspecs now, not subpunch). Hitmontop works... oddly well in OU. I'm not entirely sure why but it can actually do a good deal of damage during matches and is also a somewhat reliable counter to lucario, KOing it after SR damage (to break its sash) with mach punch. However, I'd suggest scrapping the rest of your team. One thing I'd like to note is that it's EXTREMELY scizor weak as it is.

That is so cool! Thanks for trying them out. I guess the team is a fail. Maybe a Swords Dancing Baton Passing Ninjask could be added to the team somehow, then the other 3 slots with better pokemon with better movesets. Maybe an Arcanine could go somewhere, with a ScarfedLatias and Shaymin or something like that. Vaporeon is also a choice, along with Salamence even. So many options lol. I will continue to find pokemon movesets and switch and swap until something better comes up. Thank you for your time!

Claydol-You really are stopped dead with ghost types, to keep the same feel, maybe this set will work better.
relaxed@leftovers
252 hp/200 def/58 spdef
-ice beam
-stealth rock
-explosion
-rapid spin
you can at least hit ghosts with this set.
Gengar-hypnosis really doesnt work in 4th gen, using thunderbolt instead, might help.
Snorlax-again, you cant do anything to ghosts, a movest of curse/body slam/fire punch/rest~selfdestruct, might also work better

hope i helped :]
