I would like to have advice on my team.
I use this team for double battles on wifi (not smogon)
my "rules":
- I only play on DS/Global Network, not smogon (so item restriction in place and only 4 pokemon actually fight)
- I only play double battle (free mode mostly)
- I do not use legendary even half legendary (the one accepted online like thundurus, zapdos...)
- I like pokemon for their look so no ferrothorn, shandera (no matter how strong/good they are, I dislike their appearance). This is maybe a bit stupid but I play this way.
Now the team:
Politoad @ Bright powder
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Sp.Def / 4 Def
Nature: Calm
- protect
- scald
- ice beam
- focus blast
And
Porygon-2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 SpD
Nature: Bold
- thunder
- recover
- ice beam
- magic coat
Politoad and Porygon 2 are usually my leaders. If no threat for Politoad I tend to attack with both of them. Otherwise, protect on politoad and porygon attack. They are both on the defensive side. Thunder works well under the rain and I think overall Politoad is a great leader. I need advise on porygon-2 as magic coat is rarely useful. Politoad stab scald works surprisingly very well even if IVs are defense-based. I think those 2 pokemon have great chemistry and I can often finish a match with those 2 only.
Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpD
Nature: Bold
- protect
- scald
- rest
- toxic
Hydration allow to wake up from rest and cure other status. I use Vaoperon if I do not see huge threats on the team preview of the opponent. The toxic and protect/rest/leftovers works well to keep him alive and scald for stab.
Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Nature: adamant
- Bullet punch
- u-turn
- pursuit
- superpower
The usual set I guess. I do not use choice item because in double my pokemon need to be able to make different attack. He works well under the rain and revenge kill with bullet punch. Superpower saved me a lot of times. I rarely use pursuit so an alternative would be appreciated. If another pokemon seems more appropriate, please let me know.
Ludicolo @ Shell Bell
Ability: Rain dish
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 SpD
Nature: Bold
- protect
- scald
- ice beam
- giga drain
I love him (great design). To bad that I cannot use 2 leftovers as he really needs one. I use giga drain a lot when possible for recovery and scald for stab. I use protect on few pokemon, I feel in double battle it heps me a lot. One protect while the other pokemon attack. He is sometimes a bit frail though…
Jolteon @ balloon
Ability: Volt absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
- protect
- thunder
- volt switch
- shadow ball
I usually use him if I see 1 or 2 electric pokemon who could kill politoad in the team preview. I switch politoad to him when I expect an attack. Use volt switch to change to scizor if needed (who can revert with u-turn). Thunder under the rain and shadow ball for ghosts. This pokemon is the one I am the less sure about. So any alternative is appreciated
MAIN ISSUES
1/ I have no fire attack (not that it is very effective under the rain but if the weather change, could be useful)
2/ Maybe too reliant on rain: if no rain, porygon and jolteon cannot effectively use thunder. vaporeon and ludicolo cannot use their abilities properly. When the weather change to sun, I have a lot of problems.
3/ Too many scald/ice beam maybe
4/ I feel Jolteon, ludicolo and to a certain extent szissor are quite frail
I have run some lickilicky with cloud 9 and explosion, Blissey with healing wave to cure allies in the mix but I quite like the current set. Problem is that I have no fire attack and I feel I sometimes need it.
Any recommendation?
