no scizor or mence? in OU? WTF?

as the title ever so subtly states, i chose not to put the extremely popular scizor or salamence in my team to try and stick out from the rest of the crowd. crazy idea right? well thats why im posting it here so you guys can help me out with the team (or try to talk me out of this nonsense).

alright lets get to it, at a glance:

wait what the hell... oh well close enough

crobat @ black sludge
104 HP / 152 Atk / 252 Spe
jolly
inner focus
brave bird
roost
taunt
u-turn

this guy is easily my favorite lead, since he outspeeds any lead that doesnt have 130 base speed and taunts them before they can return the favor or set up their rocks, which usually gives me the upper hand. when he does encounter those other base 130 speed leads i usually just u-turn out while they waste a taunt on crobat and switch to my swampert and get my rocks down/ kill their leads.

catfish.jpg
hmm this must be swamperts shiny form

swampert @ leftovers
240 HP / 216 Def / 52 SpA
relaxed
torrent
stealth rock
ice beam
hydro pump
earthquake

swampert pairs up really well with his lead buddy crobat seeing as though they resist each others weaknesses and scare away each others counters. stealth rock usually gets set up early in most battles with this guy and if he cant get it up in early game he usually stays alive long enough to set it up later in game. he also scares away all those rock pokemon that try to shit on gyarados' parade.

dammit gliscor not again, seriously...

child-ghost-costume_%7Eu16523627.jpg

theres my ghost

gengar @ life orb
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def
timid
levitate
shadow ball
focus blast
thunderbolt
destiny bond

you never really know whats gonna happen when you throw a gengar into a battle, and that unpredictability is exactly why i have him on my team. his attacking moves are for all around coverage but destiny bond is a twist on the usual explosion since you can take out ghosts and steels with destiny bond and you can play mind games with your opponent. you want to get rid of gengar but at the same time you dont want to lose one of your pokemon to do it, and destiny bond doesnt give them much of an option.

great at scouting and great at saving me 15% or more on car insurance, win

flygon @ choice scarf
80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
naughty
levitate
earthquake
stone edge
u-turn
draco meteor/fire blast

i needed somebody to help crobat out with scouting my opponents team and i also needed a check against zapdos with HP grass and rain dance kingdra. welcome aboard flygon. along with scouting and taking out the above pokemon, flygon is also used as my revenge killer. draco meteor fits in nicely with flygons hit and run style but with porygon2 and swampert to deal with dragons i may opt for fire blast to hit bronzong and other steel types. suggestions would be nice on this.

starmie @ life orb (previously porygon2)
252 SpA / 252 Spe / SpD
timid
natural cure
surf
recover
psychic
HP fire
alrighty i figured porygon2 was giving me redundant type coverage so i figured i could use someone fast that could hit types i didnt have covered beforehand (steels, poisons and the such) but i do feel that the moveset that came with this starmie is pretty crappy compared to what it could be running so im most likely going to change it to surf, thunderbolt HP fire/ psychic and recover. this guy is also my teams status absorber because of the ever so wonderful natural cure ability. any advice on the moveset would be appreciated

bingo!

gyarados @ leftovers
156 HP / 108 Atk / 100 Def / 144 Spe
adamant
intimidate
dragon dance
waterfall
stone edge
bounce

this guy is a hardcore gangster if you guys didnt already know lol. my previous team had scizor being my late game sweeper and gyarados was there to soften everybody up for him but i wound up sweeping more teams with gyarados while scizor was sitting his ass on the sidelines. this guy can take a hit which in turn allows him to sweep effectively since it gives me the turn of dragon dance or even 2 dragon dances if my opponent cant hurt gyarados as much as they would like. from there its pretty straightforward. waterfall waterfall waterfall until something comes along to resist it, then i have stone edge to deal with the birds and dragons while bounce sometimes catches people by surprise. it either makes them switch to a less reliable gyarados counter and fail to do damage to me for a turn or lets me hit them hard and gain a little extra leftovers recovery.

well thats my team, not the most common pokemon in the world but overall i think they work together pretty decently. feel free to leave your opinions and advice. its a little too late for me to write up a threat list right now so ill get to that some time tommorow.
FF8.jpg

Threat List
Blue means not a problem
Orange means slight problem but nothing serious
Red means oh fuck I'm screwed

Azelf: crobat can taunt leads and stop them from setting up stealth rock and then u-turn out before they explode. non lead variants can be taken out by a u-turn from flygon

Breloom: crobat can taunt to prevent spore or substitutes from getting set up, then brave bird for the kill. gyarados can bounce for a quick kill as well

Celebi: crobat can u-turn to flygon and avoid a thunderwave while flygon u-turns for the kill

Dugtrio: all of my pokemon can either kill dugtrio or escape from him and porygon2 traps dugtrio along with him. only gengar has to worry about a pursuit from dugtrio

Electivire: swampert and flygon can both absorb a thunderpunch and earthquake for the kill

Empoleon: swampert earthquakes, flygon uses stab earthquake, gengar thunderbolts or uses focus blast and porygon2 thunderbolts

Flygon: swampert ice beams, porygon2 traces to avoid an earthquake and ice beams as well, flygon can come in and either speed tie scarfed variants or outspeed choice banders and use draco meteor

Gengar: hes too fragile to take a hit so i can bring in swampert to take a hit and take him out with hydro pump or ice beam

Gliscor: crobat is a way better bat in my opinion lol, swampert hydro pumps and ice beams for the kill, gyarados can set up on him and waterfall for the kill

Gyarados: porygon2 sends back an intimidate to gyarados and thunderbolts to take him out.

Heatran: flygon outspeeds and will take care of him with stab earthquake, porygon2 can come in on fire blast and kill him with thunderbolt

Heracross: crobat resists both stab attacks and brave birds for an easy kill

Infernape: crobat resists close combat and grass knot and easily KOs with brave bird. gyarados resists his fire stab and can either bounce or waterfall

Jirachi: flinch-hax is annoying but swampert resists iron head so he can take the beating and earthquake til he hits. flygon can also outrun jirachi after he tricks his scarf on to another pokemon.

Kingdra: flygon can outspeed him in the rain and can kill him with draco meteor, but unfortunately i have to sacrifice one of my pokemon to do so. if flygons gone, so is the rest of my team probably.

Latias: swampert doesnt mind being tricked specs and does good damage to it with ice beam, flygon outspeeds unscarfed variants and does massive damage with draco meteor or u-turn.

Lucario: swampert and flygon can earthquake, gyarados can lower his attack and dragon dances while lucario fails to do significent damage.

Machamp: crobat and brave bird, gyarados and bounce. simple as that

Magnezone: well i dont have any steels on my team which is a good thing, i think, so swampert and flygon should have no problem taking him down

Mamoswine: he scares away flygon and crobat but gyarados and swampert can take him down stone edge and earthquake respectively

Metagross: swampert resists meteor mash and bullet punch and is immune to thunderpunch. in return swampert can earthquake for super effective damage or hydro pump to hit the weaker of his defenses

Ninjask: crobat taunts preventing substitutes and baton pass, then takes it out with brave bird

Porygon-Z: gengars immunity to tri attack and hp fighting lets him get in without taking damage. from there he can outspeed and use focus blast for super effective damage.

Rhyperior: swampert easily takes him out with hydro pump or ice beam, gyarados can waterfall and lower his attack with intimidate but needs to watch out for stone edge

Roserade: crobat can brave bird or u-turn out for good damage and resists its stab

Rotom-A: swampert can take on variants without leaf storm, gengar can shadow ball for a lot of damage, flygon can hit it with draco meteor

Salamence: swampert's icebeam says hi, porygon2 can also take him out with icebeam

Scizor: if gyarados and swampert are in good health they can take him, if not i cross my fingers and hope for the best

Snorlax: crobat can taunt to prevent snorlax from using curse or rest, gyarados and flygon can hit the weaker of his defenses

Starmie: flygon or crobat can u-turn out for some big damage, and flygon is immune to thunderbolt.

Suicune: if crobats out against him he can taunt before suicune calm minds and then i can bring in porygon2 to thunderbolt it to death. if he gets set up its gonna cause some problems.

Togekiss: porygon2 can use serene grace against togekiss and either paralyze or freeze togekiss with ice beam and thunderbolt. can also recover off any damage. flygon is immune to thunderwave and can stone edge for the kill

Tyranitar: flygon resists stone edge and is immune to earthquake, can u-turn for some quick damage and swampert can take care of him with ease

Weavile: earthquake from swampert, gyarados can take an ice shard and stone edge him. arent too many of these anymore so ir shouldnt be too big of a problem

Yanmega: this guys a threat? ice beam from swampert and porygon2, stone edge from flygon or gyarados, brave bird from crobat, thunder bolt from gengar and porygon2. pick your poison.

Zapdos: HP grass variants scare swampert, HP ice variants scare flygon, ironically swampert takes on HP ice variants and flygon takes on HP grass variants

Swampert pairs up really well with his buddy crobat seeing as though they resist each others weaknesses and scare away some of eachother's counters. Explosion

You never really know whats gonna happen when you throw a Gengar into battle, and that unpredictability is exactly why I have him on my team. His attacking moves are for all around coverage. Explosion is chosen over Destiny Bond because it gives me a more reliable way to exit the battle, as Destiny Bond is extrordinarily unreliable (the opponent could use a setup move while I spammed Destiny Bond, for example).

Flygon @ Choice Scarf
80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Naughty
Levitate
Earthquake
Stone Edge
U-Turn
Draco Meteor

I needed somebody to help Crobat out with scouting my opponents team and I also needed a check against Zapdos with HP Grass and rain dance Kingdra. Welcome aboard Flygon. Along with scouting and taking out the above pokemon, Flygon is also used as my revenge killer. Draco Meteor fits in nicely with Flygon's hit and run strategy

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
252 HP / 216 Def / 40 SpA
Bold
Trade
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Toxic
Recover

Don't you just love when you think you're about to sweep your opponent and call it a day when they bring out their scarftran last minute and kill your entire team? Ya, neither do I, so to resolve problems like these i stuck Porygon2 in to bring a defensive aspect to the team and check the pokemon that I deliberately didnt put in my team. Ice beam to get rid of dragons (Salamence in particular) and Thunderbolt to take on the dragon that's kind of like a dragon but really isn't and is more like a gigantic inchworm (Gyarados). Recover is to keep him healthy and Toxic is to wear down pokemon for the rest of my team to pick off.

Gyarados @ Leftovers
156 HP / 108 Atk / 100 Def / 144 Spe
Adamant
Intimidate
Dragon Dance
Taunt
Stone Edge
Waterfall

This guy is a hardcore gangster if you guys didnt already know, lol. My previous team had scizor being my late game sweeper and Gyarados was there to soften everybody up for him but i wound up sweeping more teams with gyarados while scizor was sitting his ass on the sidelines. This guy can take a hit which in turn allows him to sweep effectively since it gives me the turn off for a free Dragon Dance or two.. from there its pretty straightforward. Waterfall, Waterfall, Waterfall, until something comes along to resist it, then I have Stone Edge to deal with the birds and dragons.

Yield my grammar/sprite check please, makes your RMT alot more enjoyable to read. Nice team overall, seems to focus alot on Crobat.

yaa i know but i needed a catchy title to get peoples attention lol. and thanks for the sprites lord liam, i dont know where to find them so i just never use them :P

I think even more than half dont use Scizor or Mence... the usage is somewhere around 30 percent for Scizor and like 25 for Mence

HAHA, this was funny, yeh I fell for the catchy title, I actually loled at the shiny swampert joke, mainly cus I hate swampert and the saving car insurance was pretty funny too.

But I was too busy laughing to rate the team and the funny pictures kinda get in the way. I would get another wall, over starmie, you already have a water type, just to stop your team being swept over, maybe a duel screen, light clay cresselia to help your team set up and wall etc, or a wish bliss, or wish umbreon, or wish vaporeon, just some wall that supports the rest of your teams sweeping needs.

could I fit another wall in instead of flygon perhaps? I kind of feel I need to have two specials sweepers to clean up after gyarados and to set up a sweep beforehand

Before I begin, I'd just like to say that the pictures are quite lol, although they do make the RMT harder to understand.

First off, I suggest changing Starmie's set to:

Starmie @ Life Orb
Timid nature
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

~ Surf
~ Thunderbolt
~ Ice Beam
~ Recover

Psychic gives terrible coverage, while HP Fire is largely unnecessary since Surf 2HKOs most Scizor and Metagross after SR. On the other hand, the newly-added BoltBeam combo allows you to deal with Mence and Gyara just like you did with P2, only with more offense now. If you want a faster or stronger Starmie, you can use Choice Scarf/Specs over Life Orb and Trick over Recover.

Your Flygon will be slower than the standard DDMence after one DD. As such, I suggest that you change its nature to Naive and its EV's to 176 Atk / 80 SpA / 252 Spe so you can (at worst) speed tie opposing +1 Mences.

For Gyarados I suggest replacing Stone Edge with Taunt. Taunt allows you get more opportunities to Dragon Dance up and really helps in the late-game. It also protects Gyarados from sweep-ending status conditions.

Good luck with your team!

yaa i was thinking about that starmie set too, definitely gonna use it now. also i was actually planning on using an umbreon in place of flygon since starmie covers heatran and dragons which is what i was using flygon for in the first place and i dont have a special wall of any kind. as for gyarados i may keep stone edge and get rid of bounce since it gives my opponent a chance to set up and taunt does the exact opposite lol.
