Noctowl Discussion

O.o No one has made a Noctowl Discussion? Well, I'm not sure if I'm allowed, but I think I'll make one. Afterall, Noctowl is a pretty cool pokemon, especially now that it learns Roost and Nightshade. Plus, its the pokemon that inspired my name (other than Hypno, of course) :D and it's a Flying type, one of my favorites. But this thread isn't about me, it's about Noctowl, so let's cut to the chase. Let's start off with it's Base Stats:

Noctowl's Base Stats
HP: 100
Attack: 50
Defense: 50
Sp. Attack: 76
Sp. Defense: 96
Speed: 70

That's pretty nice, especially that thar 100 HP and Sp. Defense. Now let's take a look at moves that can possibly help it. I shall only put up Special Moves and Support though:

Noctowl's Special Moves
Shadow Ball
Psychic
Extrasensory
Air Slash
Nightshade
Silver Wind (I Guess)
Hidden Power (Duh, obviously)

Not that many. But meh, it's not there for Special Sweeping in case you didn't notice this by it's uber powerful 76 Sp. Attack Stat. So let's take a look at it's support moves:

Noctowl's Support Moves
Hypnosis
Reflect
Psycho Shift
Roost
Toxic (Another duh)
Protect
Featherdance
Agility
Whirlwind
Recycle
Swagger
Rest
Sleep Talk

These moves are pretty nice. Especially Reflect, Roost, Featherdance (it forces switching), Hypnosis/Toxic, and Psycho Shift (perhaps). Finally, let's take a look at the abilities:

Noctowl's Abilities
Insomnia: Can't fall asleep.
Keen Eye: Accuracy can't be lowered.

Obviously, the first one is better as you can't be forced to sleep. :) Though if you're going for Rest (though, I would be surprised as it has Roost), you can always go for Keen Eye.

Now for a Moveset made by me, and then we can start the discussion:

Noctowl @LightClay/Leftovers
Insomnia is preffered for this set
Calm Natured (+Sp. Defense, -Attack)
Reflect
Roost/Protect
Hypnosis/Toxic/FeatherDance
Night Shade

Now, I exclude EVs as I'm not the one to actually come up with them. ^^' Though, if I had to think, it would be HP:252/Sp.Defense:252/Defense:6 or HP:252/Defense:252/Sp.Defense:6, the former might be better since it already has Reflect. Then again, it already has a good Sp. Defense so the latter might help it withstand physical hits. I'm not quite sure on EV spreads. What you do should be pretty obvious though. If you have Hypnosis, you use that first, forcing your opponent to switch which allows you to set a Reflect. Or you can just set a Reflect and Hypnotize, then Roost on the switch. Toxic can work here too as well as Featherdance. Nightshade helps you deal 100 damage exactly to the opponent. Protect is just to waste an opponent's turn after you have entoxicated them. I tried Featherdance, Protect, Toxic and Reflect on Netbattle (as I don't have a D/P yet or even a DS for that matter) and it didn't do quite as bad as I thought it would.

Anyhow, yeah, let's just... discuss Noctowl now. XD As we've been missing a Noctowl thread and he seems like a good Reflecter, if not for OU then for UU.

EDIT: D'oh. >.< I just realized somebody submitted a Noctowl Discussion Thread in the Discussion Thread index. I didn't see it in the thread though, it needs to be updated. :/ Ah well... I'll becareful next time and not do anything rash, sorry about that guys. >.<
