Non-Tar Sandstorm Team

A Sandstorm team that doesn't use T-Tar and has 2 UU's and one BL pokemon. Any fixes that you can think of will be appreciated.

The team:

As i wasn't going to use Tyranitar in this team, it only leaves me with one viable Sandstreamer, Hippowdon. Hippowdon is is great defensive poke that i can use quite effectively.

Next i needed a grass and water, as well as something to stop Toxic, three things that stop Hippowdon dead. Ferrothorn was my primary choice.

I now needed a Fire and Fighting resist, i was toying between Tentacruel and Slowbro but went with Slowbro as it can also take on opposing Tentacruel as well as take out weakened Ferrothorn's if i needed to.

I now needed a decent physical attacker, as well as something that i can use effectively against the other instant weather changers (T-Tar,Politoed, Ninetaills and Abomasnow.) I decided Terrakion was the best all-round choice.

Latios is my special sweeper, although i can fit a fair few pokes into this spot if needed.

Rotom-H, one of the best Scizor counters i could think of and its only reason for being on my team really, perhaps Heatran would work but i needed something that could hurt bulky waters if the time came and Ferrothorn wasn't available.

The Team In Detail:

Hippowdon @Leftovers Impish
EV's: 252 HP/4Attack/252Def
Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Slack Off
Ice Fang/Roar

With the advent of new physical threats this generation, Hippowdon may not be quite as titanic as last generation but it is still an excellent defensive poke and a good way to check Tyranitar, that has become the primary sandstreamer this generation, despite the advent of more fighting pokemon. It can take even the most powerful of boosted physical hits, possibly even explosion because it no longer halves defense and potentially KO the opposing pokemon or stall it out with Slack Off. Stealth Rock provides entry hazards, Earthquake is a primary STAB move, Slack Off for recovery and either ice Fang to hit Ballooned pokemon as well as Gliscor or Roar to scout opposing teams and rack up extra residual damage.

Ferrothorn @Leftovers Impish
EV's: 252 HP/88Def/168Sp Def
Spikes
Leech Seed
Bulldoze
Power Whip

Pretty much your standard Ferrothorn, bar the use of Bulldoze instead of Gyro Ball, which will be explained. Ferrothorn takes a multitude of both physical and Special hits as well as checking Hippowdon's three key weakenesses Water,Grass and Toxic. Spikes enables me to rack up additional passive damage, Leech Seed provides Ferrothorn some much needed recovery, as well as racking up passive damage on the opponent. Power Whip is a decent hard hitting STAB move, destroying bulky waters and finally Bulldoze is there to prevent Magnezone setting up on me so it has to provide me a clean death and also in an (unlikely) 1-1 scenario against an opposing Ferrothorn i can come out on top, as well as denting Heatran/Jirachi on the switch in e.t.c.

Slowbro @Leftovers Bold <Regenerator>
EV's: 252 HP/140Def/116 Sp Attack
Scald
Slack Off
Fire Blast
Psychic

My surprise package. Takes physical hits like a champ and also has a pretty decent base 100 Sp Attack. The Ev's allow me to potentially OHKO the standard Ferrothorn with Fire Blast after Stealth Rock damage, which is very useful whilst being pretty bulky with its good defense and HP Stats, as well as Regenerator, Slack Off and Leftovers. Scald offers STAB and a way to potentially cripple Physical attackers, Fire Blast to damage Scizor's e.t.c, Psychic to offer decent STAB and will destroy the fighting types it resists, like Terrakion and finally Slack Off to heal damage.

Terrakion @Choice Band Jolly
EV's:4HP/252 Attack/252 Speed
Close Combat
Stone Edge
X-Scissor
Secret Sword/Quick Attack

A decent physical attacker, capable of destroying all of the other instant weather inducers that could ruin my fun. Close Combat/Stone Edge are practically unresisted and everything will take a huge amount of damage from either attack. X-Scissor offers a way to destroy Reniculus with ease and finally Secret Sword is there to still hit boosted pokemon for the same damage it would without the boosts but quick attack is viable to pick off weakened faster pokes, but i prefer Secret Sword, because of the pokemon that can up their defenses.

Latios @ Life Orb Timid
EV's: 4HP/252 Sp attack/252 Speed
Dragon Pulse
Surf/Psyshock
HP Fire
Recover

My Special Sweeper of choice. I prefer the Life Orb set over Choice Specs simply because although it sacrifices huge power, it offers longevity as well as freedom to change moves. Dragon Pulse is the main STAB move that hits pokemon for a decent amount of damage, Surf is used to damage Heatran as Rock/Ground types that have Steel typing although Psyshock can be used depending on the opponents team, whilst offering additional STAB and a pretty high powered attack. HP Fire is the only way to damage Scizor/Ferrothorn that would love to setup on Latios, as well as other steels like Jirachi and lastly recover offers much needed recovery because of the Life Orb recoil.

Rotom-H @ Choice Scarf Modest
EV's: 4 HP/252 Sp Attack/252 Speed
Overheat
Volt Switch/T-Bolt
HP Grass/Ice
Trick

Perhaps my primary Scizor counter and it does a very good job of it, being x4 resistant to Steel and x2 resistant to Bug and packing Overheat to annihilate it. Overheat is there to put huge dents in pokemon that don't resist it or aren't dedicated special walls, Volt Switch is there to get out of situations i don't like whilst providing damage but Thunderbolt can be used to provide additional power, HP Grass is there because of the increased usage of Gasterodon and Quagsire but Ice can be used to destroy the Dragon/Flying type and lastly Trick potentially cripples its counters (Blissey/Chansey/Jellicent/Tentacruel.)

Hi, solid team. First of all, props to using Hippowdon. Now, an unfortunate side effect of this is that your team has no answer to Espeon, Reuniclus, Latias, and Latios, all of whom Tyranitar shuts down. One Pokemon that can answer to all of these Pokemon is Specially Defensive Jirachi. Thanks to its special bulk, Jirachi takes pittance from Hidden Power Fire and can respond with parahax. Jirachi also brings valuable Wish support to your team, and Protect allows you to not only guarantee a successful Wish, but also zap some of your opponent's health with Sandstorm. I suggest swapping out Latios for Jirachi. Why? Because the two most expendable members of your team are Latios and Rotom-H, as both serve the same function of checking Sun teams, but Rotom-H is so much more creative a choice. One unfortunate side effect is that you must now rely on Ferrothorn to take on Rotom-W. However, Jirachi can provide Wish support to ensure Ferro doesn't get overwhelmed by the burn.

On Slowbro, don't even bother with Fire Blast or that Special Attack. One of its best traits is its ability to counter DD Dragonite, DD Salamence, and Landorus. 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA and Ice Beam over Fire Blast is so much more effective for the current metagame. Scizor and Ferrothorn should honestly be no problem, since Rotom-H easily deals with both of them. Moreover, this allows you to pick Roar over Ice Fang on Hippowdon, as Slowbro already does the job against Dragons and Landorus. I also suggest going for Thunder Wave over Bulldoze on Ferrothorn. Magnezone switch-ins can be seen from a mile away, and the ability to hit Heatran and Magnezone is so situational its not even funny. Thunder Wave, on the other hand, can go a long way on a team like this, as it could help Terrakion get the jump on something that normally outspeeds it, such as Tornadus.

Now, I shall confess the point of this rate, to set your team up for supporting SubSD Terrakion. Choice Band Terrakion is truly one of the best physical attackers in the metagame, as it 2HKOs just about every relevant threat. However, SubSD Terrakion is arguably the single best physical sweeper in the metagame. With Substitute, Terrakion can not only protect itself from status, but it also eases prediction, and provides a buffer against potential revenge killers. For example, Scizor must waste a turn breaking your Substitute with Bullet Punch, while you destroy Scizor with Close Combat. You can afford to run a Life Orb as your item, because Jirachi can heal off all that recoil damage with Wish. There is no need for Rock Polish either, because I've given you two Pokemon to distribute paralysis in Jirachi and Ferrothorn. I assure you that SubSD Terrakion will not disappoint.

GL
Specially Defensive Jirachi>Latios
pros: checks Espeon, Reuniclus, Latias, Latios, provides Wish support, parahax to annoy opponents
cons: must now rely on Ferrothorn to deal with Rotom-W, which is risky since some of them carry Will-O-Wisp

Ice Beam>Fire Blast+new EV spread on Slowbro
pros: checks DD Dragonite/ DD Salamence/ SD Landorus
cons: why would you sacrifice Slowbro's ability to do this?

Thunder Wave>Bulldoze on Ferrothorn
pros: spread paralysis in opposing teams
cons: Bulldoze is rather situational anyway

SubSD Terrakion>CB Terrakion
pros: SubSD Terrakion is a force of nature
cons: any problems it does have are patched up by Jirachi's/ Ferrothorn's support

Hippowdon having roar and ice fang is really important to stopping a lot of threats, stealth rock is cool and all, you have other pokemon on this team for it, you could easily fit it on New World Order's stealth rocks set, or Ferrothorn. Also, its probably better to use whirlwind over roar on hippowdon in that case, mainly for Mr. Mime and other sillyness. You can use whirlwind now because you are not using stealth rocks on it.

Just a small comment, I don't have the time for a full rate sorry. As always, NWO's reply is pretty good and I suggest you follow what he suggests.

It would be a better option, but I believe having both whirlwind and stealth rock is incompatible on Hippowdon. On his moveset, Roar vs Ice Fang is a hard choice, but I will mention there have been some points where I had been more thankful one choosing Ice Fang over Roar, most notably against DD Dragonite.

One thing I would note is that you have 3 physically defensive walls on your team, and it seems to be going overboard to me. On this note, due to the spike-stacking nature of this team, I would say a spin blocker should be placed on your team. You have two options to take with you on this one, but both act as ok stall breakers and replace the fighting resits the belonged to your Slowbro. Pain Split Gengar or Defensive Jellicent immediately came to mind. Jellicent, as everyone knows, makes a great partner for Ferrothorn, and it fulfills the role of spreading burn like Slowbro did. However, Pain Spilt Gengar works awesomely in the sand and would replace the speed and offense that got lost when replacing Latios.

I've been running a team very similar to yours for the Dark Horse Project, and it performed very well getting trolled at a 102 ranking peak. So if you have a SubSplit Gengar with an Ice Fang Hippowdon, I'm going to give a special mention to a favorite of mine, Specially Defensive RestTalk Gyrados (lol mouthful)

Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Pain Split
- Shadow Ball

I really like this team...excellent defensive core that lays hazards and counters threats with ease, paired with two of the strongest hitters in the metagame. What I don't like is the use of Rotom-H; it's not the best of Pokemon to use in OU, with its crippling SR weakness which is amplified by 1). your lack of a spinner and 2). the fact that it's constantly gonna be Volt Switching in and out of the battle. Overheat is also extremely unreliable STAB because of the SpA drop. You're also lacking a spin-blocker, a crucial component in most hazard-stacking teams; this means that stall teams will have their way with you, as Forretress will get easy hazards of their own vs. your Hippowdon / Ferrothorn and spin yours whenever they want; while CB Terra certainly puts pressure on their walls with its immense power, it cannot do the job single-handedly.

With this in mind, my suggestion is to drop Rotom-H for a Jellicent. It is able to block Rapid Spin, and also break down stall teams with Will-O-Wisp + Taunt + Recover (the first of which causes steady residual damage, the second of which prevents recovery, the third of which keeps you healthy so the opponent can't just chip away at your health and eventually KO you). Dropping Rotom-H, however, leaves you without a revenge killer. This can easily be fixed by simply changing your Terrakion's item to Choice Scarf. Terra is one of the best revenge killers in the game, with excellent typing that shrugs off most priority (Scizor is the obvious exception but he is hard-countered by Jellicent) and strong attacks to pick frail sweepers off with. You'll lose the raw power of the Choice Band set, which is unfortunate, but the utility of the Scarf is more important, and your multiple entry hazards will somewhat compensate for the loss in power.

In summary: Jellicent > Rotom-H, Choice Scarf > Band on Terrakion. Good luck with the team, it's very solid, hope my suggestions'll make it even moreso.
Jellicent @ Leftovers | Cursed Body
Bold | 240 HP / 216 Def / 52 Spe
Scald | Will-O-Wisp | Taunt | Recover

Hey, this seems to be a pretty solid defensive team. Although like a lot of slower and hazard based teams you have a problem with calm mind reuniclus. This will show through especially if you decide to use a choice scarf on terrakion as you will be unable to do lots of damage to reuniclus on the initial switch with stone edge. The most simple option here would be trying to run a substitute + calm mind latias over your latios. Latias is able to beat reuniclus one on one in a calm mind war as you will have the advantage with substitute blocking any opportunity for critical hits. I'd simply run a set of calm mind / substitute / recover / dragon pulse with maximum hp and speed, timid nature, and leftovers. Another reason why substitute is a pretty good option on latias over roar in this situation is because you have more than one pursuit weak 'mon. If you decide to try out jellicent, at least you will have a way to shut down tyrnaitar and scizor much easier. Substitute allows you to scout out for scizor or tyranitar switch ins which eases prediction allowing you to win the pursuit vs. crunch battle.

The big issue here is that hazards are really going to harm this team. Plenty of your team members are hurt by toxic spikes as well as spikes and there are many opportune times for your opponent to simply set them up. If you decide to go choice scarf on terrakion, this problem will increase to an even greater extent as skarmory can simply come in and roost off close combats while spiking at the same time. Although I don't really want to make a lot of changes, I think that it would be worth your time to give starmie a go over slowbro. Starmie gives you a pretty solid rapid spinner while at the same time being able to fill the holes that removing slowbro would bring to your team. With starmie your synergy isn't messed up too much and you get to keep a decent fighting resistance as well. I'd suggest that you just go with a spread of 168 HP / 108 SpA / 232 Spe with a timid nature, leftovers, and a set of scald / recover / rapid spin / thunderbolt which allows you to minimize stealth rock damage on starmie as well as outrunning scrafty after a dragon dance. Although you could easily go more defensive or offensive as you choose.
