So, on Pokemon Online, before switching to Showdown, I was once top 400/100,000. I peaked pretty high, and I thought I had a fair understanding of the metagame.
Currently, it's taking a bit for me to figure out the new one, but after a lot of testing I -think- I have a team I like.
I love switching a lot, weakening down the enemy with bulky tanks or pivots (depending), and then, having a late game sweeper or two, dedicated.
Here's my team so far:
Tyranitar (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sand Stream
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Ice Beam
- Superpower
A strong inducer of sand, I like to use him either to start off, or later, depending on how many Sp. Sweepers the enemy has. I love how specially bulky he is, and how easily he can deal with Politoed, Ninetales, etc. Good typing for many physical threats (like Talonflame), and this is just a stellar Pokemon for early game.
Hippowdon (M) @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Def / 248 HP / 8 SDef
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Whirlwind
- Rock Slide
A second Sand inducer, I tend to be more safe with this one, switching him in and out for keeping Sand up on the field, to wittle down the enemy, early game. I've considered SR in place of Rock Slide... Thoughts? It might make this team easier to pull off, though, having only EQ can be painful. Granted, the ones that make that troublesome (i.e. Talonflame and such) usually don't like being Whirlwinded with SR on the field, anyways.
Sylveon (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Cute Charm
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Toxic
- Protect
- Moonblast
Team support, this pairs amazingly well with Gliscor. One's a bulky physical wall, this one is a special wall. A healer, a staller, and a great core with Gliscor, I love the amount of recover and plays this thing can set up.
Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Def / 244 HP / 12 Spd
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Substitute
Mostly a pivot, I use this to stall out mid game, usually. I rarely use it early, and sometimes late. It's a great switch, to a switch, if that makes sense, giving me opportunities with its immense bulk. It also pairs well with Sylveon, I've found.
Alakazam (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Substitute
With Magic Guard making it immune to Sand, and LO, this makes a great late game sweeper. I almost never use it early game, and rarely late-- this thing is cleanup crew. Usually teams like to deal with threats like Ala early, and I try not to give them that chance, putting pressure just from the threat of him, alone. With weaknesses to Bug and Ghost, he pairs well with Glisc/T-tar in that regards, as well.
Scizor (M) @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 40 Atk / 252 HP / 216 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- Bug Bite
Not sure on this one... In theory, bulky Scizor (hence the MegaEvo) would fit this team. I'm still learning how to use him, but despite his bulk, he -seems- frail. A mid game pivot with bulky sweeping potential I was hoping for (or just any sweeping potential as a pivot), but I'm not sure... In theory, his typing, his bulk, everything should fit... But it doesnt. Im kinda lost-- maybe I just need more time. Hmm...
-------------------
Considerations: Swapping out Scizor entirely for Lucario, Mega Lucario, or Excadrill. Or perhaps just another tank. Replacing T-Tar with Mega T-tar, and turning him into a sweeper himself, since I tend to be relatively reckless with him anyways (meaning I'll sacrifice him to take down and wear down another Sp. Attacker on the enemy team, often, instead of saving him for later. Typically.)
I've tried employing Mega Garchomp, using a mixed set (SD, Draco Meteor, FB, Earthquake), as suggested by those doing the analysis; however I felt, at least on my team, it was surprisingly lackluster. Perhaps I wasn't using it right? Perhaps I would need a different set?
I'm really iffy on Scizor, but I'm unsure if there's another fit there. I dunno, it feels like he just doesn't do enough?
I REALLY love Sylveon and Gliscor. I've stalled out a lot of threats with that before, making it easier to sweep later.
Alakazam has gone both ways with me before, sometimes I don't need him or he's just not enough; other times he wrecks late game.
Thoughts? Considerations?
I don't really use these forums much, however, I -really- want to make a great team, based around being a bulky Sand team, having a Wish Passer in Sylveon, and late game sweeping.
