Sir Isaac Mewton

I COULD BE BANNED!
Without reading much of this thread beyond this post...all I see is pointless ad hominem attacks coming from a source w/ no credentials.
Read the rest of this thread and my previous post, maybe you will see what you want. If not you can always reply with ad hominem attacks coming from a source with tons of pokemon credentials like yourself.

Really happy to see Mr Aldo is beyond what the rest do, as he thinks he managed to transcend the mundane and rise above the social norms of the internet. However, Mr Aldo, I think you can agree that welliou's team is the slowest team ever. 0 speed control. 2 slow physical attackers. Also, he gave blastoise away turn 3. What did Melo do that a dd zydog or sub cm raikou couldn't have done in that game?

I really don’t see why you just have the need to keep coming at the top players like this who have the metagame knowledge that have been trying to find decent Meloetta counterplay for a while now. No one wants to run a Scarf Drapion on every team (which is fairly unreliable mind you) in order to have some sort of chance in maybe beating Meloetta. It has been proven before that set-up sweepers that are almost impossible to wall can still be healthy due to universal counterplay, poor bulk, not having many opportunities to set-up, or a mixture of all of that. Meloetta however doesn’t fit this criteria as it does have a sizable amount of bulk which allows it multiple opportunities to set-up throughout the match. It of course isn’t going to will-nilly set-up Z-Celebrate at the beginning of the match but once the climax is reached there is literally nothing that can stop a Meloetta after it has set-up as opposed to other late-game cleaners. On the contrary, the meta won’t become stale and it hasn’t really been stale (which is a pretty big misconception of RU imo), it will only improve as it removes a force too oppressive and restricting to deal with.

hi, mediocre player here

gonna be voting ban on the recommendation my future RUPL management team of Ajna and Nat

also wanted to correct a couple serious errors that have been floated around the last pages:
  • Blastoise doesn't 1v1 Melo unless it's some shitty Blastoise set running less than 196 speed, in which case it's a huge liability against a ton of other stuff and loses 1v1s to other Stoise. Normalium Melo has a 95% chance to 2HKO Stoise with unboosted Psychic after rocks (~30% chance without rocks). Breakneck Blitz also has a 70% roll to drop Blastoise immediately, with a 100% KO after rocks damage.
  • Melo should never be relegated to a 100% endgame sweeper role that you only bring out when it's clear that a boost will lock up the game. It's a mon with massive flexibility and massive breaking potential--few of its answers can switch in directly (Zong/Meta into CM Electrium or Shadow Ball sets lose, Golisopod into an attack loses, and most of the mons that were floated around as living +1 hits from Melo either can't do anything in return or can't switch-in against it in a midgame state. Or they outright lose to sets/players that don't blindly click Celebrate.
  • Priority doesn't check Celebrate Melo. Just for some sample damage calcs:
    252 Atk Choice Band Zygarde Extreme Speed vs. +1 68 HP / 0 Def Meloetta: 90-107 (25.1 - 29.8%)
    252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Bullet Punch vs. +1 68 HP / 0 Def Meloetta: 93-109 (25.9 - 30.4%)
    252+ Atk Golisopod First Impression vs. +1 68 HP / 0 Def Meloetta: 260-308 (72.6 - 86%)
    252+ Atk Life Orb Arcanine Extreme Speed vs. +1 68 HP / 0 Def Meloetta: 92-109 (25.6 - 30.4%)
It's a bulky mon fam. 68/252+/188 is the best spread for Celebrate btw; only thing you miss out on outrunning is scarf Rose, which doesn't do anything to you.
  • Fightinium CM and Electrium CM Thunder are both really good sets that haven't been discussed at all. They're some of the best breakers in the tier, and can do serious damage against any of the methods of handling Melo described throughout this thread.
  • How repetitive or "stale" a metagame is should be completely irrelevant in voting on suspects. You're not voting to get the meta that lets you bring in the most cool and creative stuff. You're voting for the changes that balance the tier.
  • With the above said, anyone who's claiming this tier hasn't changed considerably in the past few weeks has no zero idea what they're talking about and should be ignored. Recent drops had a massive impact on RU, as did losing Gligar and Doublade. Nobody--not on the ladder and not in major tours--is using completely optimized teams right now.
