Metagame NP: Stage 17 - Azelf + Terrakion Banned

Ok played a bit with the new guys...


This guy is insane

Coverage for everyone.

Its true it's bulk is subpar getting OHKO by a lot of generic strong stuff not even talking about stupid ones...

I was having fun with NP draining kiss + Flamethrower and sub last. 1 NP and the game was over.

I don't think we have the tools to defend against everything it can do for real. Not even talking about other stuff like physical, lead sash, seed ... It's setup mew a bit less durable and hitting even harder. If Mew was correctly banned. Azelf should follow it's steps.


Good old fat spider. Nothing really to add. Won't be broke. Webs still suck. But is strong and a great addition to the tier as a fat SpD water.



Clicking banded stone edge is fun.
SD end games.

I think this mon is very dangerous and maybe a bit toxic for ladder because yes you live or die by stone edge hitting many times.

I think scarf can be used as the new fastest mon but it's stabs are very ok to play arround once you are locked and you don't have Uturn.

I think Terrakion will be a top mon in the tier just not sure if it will be super broken (SD kind of scares me) I like the mon and would be willing to see it a bit before saying to ban it.


QD is broke.

Eventually someone will put on terrain and will be stupid.

I use a lot of it in Ubers. Without webs being super valuable it loses a lot of its strength. I think it will be a fine mon and unless you are planning of using it as a fast sweeper Sylveon will be the best fairy in the tier.

While I do think Azelf is very strong and has too many options to handle most likely, one notable difference between it and mew is the lack of ground coverage outside of committing to terablast. So incin walls it or forces it to Terablast…. That being said though having the tier rely even more on incin isn’t a good think and it’s not to hard to chip/overwhelm it. Azelf is definitely insane though and np is crazy once you remove/knock their scarfer.

I am a bit concerned about terrak as a sd and band user for sure. Scarf is probably healthy but I think the other sets will be the bread and butter. Could very well see this winding up in nubl alongside azelf but ofc with a little more time.

I’m not sold on qd bee being broken. Once things settle I’ll probably experiment more but it’s spatt and bulk are both fairly low. Time will tell though!

half the value of Ground coverage was to hit Alolan Muk which is RU now, outside of that it was just the coverage option of choice due to Registeel overshadowing Bronzong.

I've only played against and used the Nasty Plot + Tera Draining Kiss sets and they are ridiculously OP. Even a move as weak as Draining Kiss can net OHKO's on a lot of neutral targets to keep you healthy and offset Life Orb recoil. Azelf's bulk isn't great but we saw Mienshao, who is significantly more frail, show how powerful passive healing is. I'm confident Knock Off + U-turn sets are highly valuable too but Nasty Plot is way too potent.

Oh yeah I'm not saying the lack of ground coverage makes it ok by any means! Just thought it was worth pointing out. If anything though having incin as the basically only good check is not a good thing for the tier. NP + LO + Dkiss is very strong for sure

Council is holding a vote on Terrakion, Azelf, and Ribombee as we speak! There will be an announcement by tomorrow about the results.

Here are the council vote results! But, some clarity is required. While Azelf was very happily banned by everyone for being OP, many BAN votes for Terrakion were less strong. As a result, we'll be posting a Terrakion retest suspect tomorrow. Regardless, Azelf and Terrakion are now banned from NU.

dhelmise Mathy or Marty please implement just an Azelf ban on PS! for us when you can ^^

I wonder why 3 people voted to ban ribombee, webs gets marginally better but Galvantula as the setter was not really the problem with webs before. It was just that we had a meta that was good at dealing with them but a setter faster than cinccino doesn't hurt ig. According to a lot of people, QD sets have a hard time setting up due to Ribombee's terrible bulk and having to choose between being walled by Bronzong or Incineroar depending on the tera blast type of choice.
