ORAS NU NU Sun team [#5]

WELCOME TO MY FIRST RMT.
After about a day or two of messing around with this sun team, I managed to push to the 5th spot on the ladder. This team is a HO team with Victreebel, Tangela, Magmortar sweeping opponents team most of the time. (Yes sweeping, not cleaning up!)
Not much prediction is involved with this team and you can basically sweep unprepared opponents easily.

The team building process started off with a Victreebel and Magmortar core, both benefiting from sun support. (Chlorophyll and powered-up fire moves) They both have synergy offensively, being able to 2HKO or OHKO most of the NU meta. I went with a modest nature as the extra speed is not needed, but the extra firepower will come in handy.

Victreebel @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Solar Beam
- Weather Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Sleep Powder
Notable KOs with modest nature (100% chance to OHKO Pyroar after stealth rocks, sludge bomb/solar beam + weather ball 100% chance to KO skuntank)
Sleep powder is preferred over growth to prevent sucker punches from the likes of skuntank/keckleon. On mons that victreebel loses to, magmortar will check them as they are unable to KO it in return as magmortar has nice bulk (mespirit/hariyama). That is if you miss sleep powder :(.

Magmortar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 104 HP / 252 SpA / 152 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Flame Charge
Self explanatory set, psychic is inferior to flame charge as it makes magmortar lose out to faster mons like tauros, archeops, liepard. Hariyama and garbodor can be weakened by claydol and then cleaned up afterwards. AV so it can tank hits well and KO back.
Also, it acts as a check to lilligant/vivillion etc with vital spirit. Focus blast is essential to KO stuff like regirock and piloswine. If you predict lanturn to switch in, doubling into tangela provides a good set up opportunity.

Next, I needed a stealth rocker that could also deal with xatu's magic bounce. As stealth rocks were important to weaken enemy mons so that a sweep will take place. Crustle was chosen due to bulk and study+custap to get up 2 layers of hazards.

crustle.gif

Crustle @ Custap Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Rock Blast
- Knock Off
I always lead off with it no matter the match up as 2 layers of hazards are almost guaranteed, plus crustle is quite fast actually! I love the fact that it has an offensive presence with investment to kill off xatu and knock off other mons items such as rhydon's eviolite as
it likes to switch in.

I chose liepard and claydol to set up sun as they have a nice little dark-psychic offensive core while both being able to set up sun safely. (prankster and Sp. Def bulk respectively)
liepard.gif

Liepard @ Heat Rock
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sunny Day
- Encore
- Knock Off
- U-turn
One of the best sunny day setters due to prankster priority. Encore is useful on predictions, ie swtiching into a safe move like rapid spin/defog/psychic and using encore to get a free set up or uturn for momentum. Also, U-turn makes this my shiftry counter(TIP: dont set up sun if shiftry can sweep you!)
claydol.gif

Claydol @ Heat Rock
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earth Power
- Sunny Day
- Psychic
Claydol has managed to save me from garbodor and hariyama and choiced sawks so many times and still it is able to rapid spin(as magmortar will wear down easily) and sunny day?! I've never regretted having this mon on my team as it is able to perform well in so many roles.

tangela.gif

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
- Growth
- Giga Drain
- Ancient Power
- Hidden Power [Fire]
I chose this over shiftry as my last mon due to its bulk and ease of set up amongst most of the mons in NU.
A growth or two and you are ready to sweep! The speed EVs are so that you can just outspeed jolly tauros in the sun.
Importable
Victreebel @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Solar Beam
- Weather Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Sleep Powder

Liepard @ Heat Rock
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sunny Day
- Encore
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Magmortar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 104 HP / 252 SpA / 152 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Flame Charge

Crustle @ Custap Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

- Knock Off

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe
Modest Nature

- Giga Drain
- Ancient Power
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Claydol @ Heat Rock
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature

- Sunny Day
- Psychic

Pretty solid sun team you have here man. I really like the use of bulkier offensive Pokemon like Tangela and Claydol to give you a better matchup vs other hyper offensive teams without having to sack valuable members left and right. I actually really like the way your team looks on paper and I don't see much that beats it other than well played Sand teams, Rain teams, and Scarf Scyther (but im the only one who uses that piece of shit) so I'll just make a few subjective tweaks that make sense to me.

Your speed evs on Tangela (nvm im retarded and forgot hp fire) are just a bit off, if you're really only aiming for Tauros you can drop the investment to 80 and still hit 352 in sun; however, I'd consider investing just a little bit more to hit 182 speed (108 EVs). This investment lets you get the jump on 115s like Floatzel and other boosted mons like +2 positive natured Carracosta. If the diminished bulk is really noticable by moving 24 EVs then its probably not worth it as you have Victreebel but its worth noting.

I don't really see what Knock Off is doing on lead Crustle. It's really only good in a few matchups and I think you're much better off just going with Sunny Day in its place so that you'll be able to start sweeping or wallbreaking a turn earlier. It also pairs nicely with Custap Berry which is cool.

Once again, really solid team glad you got so far with it.

Summary of changes:

Tangela
84 Spe ---> 108 Spe (Floatzel and Carracosta)

Crustle
Knock Off ---> Sunny Day

Hey Bro,

Nice Sun Team you have here. It looks quite innovative compared to standard sun, Tangela is a really cool mon that I didn't know got chlorophyll and growth, which is really cool and almost makes it a bulkier Victreebel (albeit a bit weaker). What my rate intends to do is make your team a more effective sun proposition, by condensing rolls into less Pokémon meaning you can afford to have more sun sweepers. My main gripe about your team is Crustle, it looks kinda pointless on Sun since you don't have spin / Defog deterrents respectively, so I can often see its primary purpose (hazards) being gotten rid of quite quickly, while you try to settup sun.

What I'm going to suggest is that you run Stealth Rock > Earth Power Or Psychic on Claydol and run Sawsbuck > Crustle.
With this team I feel like you really lack something with Physical Attack to easier break down bulky special walls such as Hariyama and whatever the team has. Thereby, by adding a Sawsbuck your team will easier break down walls more often, and have more opportunities to just win the game. This comes about by condensing claydol's roll into full hazards control + sun, meaning its quite pressured, however, the benefits of having an extra sweeper means that you are less likely to be walled and often mean you can play more aggressively with your sweepers in the knowledge you will always have one spare.

Sawsbuck @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Double Edge
- Jump Kick

Best of luck for the future,
~HJAD
