I'm fairly new to pretty much any meta game that's NOT OU. NU is proving to be my favorite, because my favorite pokemon can actually be competitive. Unfortunately, to put it frankly, I suck. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Raichu (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Lightningrod
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- Hidden Power [Water]
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Fake Out
First up is my Raichu. Raichu is a hit and run attacker. Choice Specs boosts special attacks by 1.5x, meaning that Raichu can actually deal decent damage to an incoming opponent. I can faint an opponent with Volt Switch, and have a free switch to another pokemon, or deal serious damage to an opponent and switch into a good type matchup. Thunderbolt is an excellent move on Raichu, providing STAB, accuracy and power. Its usually used in late game. Hidden Power Water is reserved for Raichu's most common threat in NU, Camerupt, it also works great on other ground and rock types. Fake Out is obviously used once before I switch into something else, but I haven't found it very useful thus far. Not sure what to replace it with though. Finally, lightningrod is used as a switch-in opportunity, but surprisingly they aren't many electric types used in NU.
Cryogonal @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Freeze-Dry
- Frost Breath
- Flash Cannon
- Toxic
Cryogonal. Once Rotom-Frost until I realized that Rotom-Frost's only ice type is Blizard. As you can see, it is a bulky Special Sweeper, with Levitate for great switch-ins and leftovers to recover health. Freeze dry is a decent STAB option with coverage over water types. Frost Breath is always a critical hit and negates defensive stat boosts, Flash Cannon hits rock types and other ice types, and Toxic takes care of stallers.
Gogoat @ Leftovers
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Horn Leech
- Leaf Blade
- Leech Seed
Gogoat. One of my favorite Gen 6 pokemon, it functions as my main Grass type. Earthquake handily takes fire types (if it can outspeed them that is) Horn leech recovers health, Leaf Blade deals serious damage and leech seed is good for walls.
Garbodor @ Black Sludge
Ability: Stench
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Toxic
- Gunk Shot
- Giga Drain
- Haze
Garbodor is my main wall. Its moveset is pretty self explanatory. Toxic is always nice to have, Gunk Shot is a great STAB and deals damage to grass and the rare fairy. Giga Drain regains health while haze neutralizes stat boost such as the ever common shell smash. Stench give me the slight but still present chance of flinching, which is always nice.
Archeops
Ability: Defeatist
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- U-turn
- Rock Slide
- Dragon Claw
Archeops give me two great types, rock and flying. It has no item to boost Acrobatics, Rock Slide, as its go to attack, U-turn to switch out of dangerous situations and for type coverage, and Dragon claw also for type coverage. It's EV trained for Special defense to try and take ice type moves.
Volbeat (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Light Screen
- Tail Glow
- Bug Buzz
- Baton Pass
Last is Volbeat. This is my lead. Prankster means gives light screen Tail Glow, and Baton pass priority, focus sash means I survive to pass my special attack boosts on to Raichu or Cryogonal, and Bug Buzz can be a pretty tough hit to take after a tail glow or two.
