XY NU NU Water Spam (Peaked at 200ish)

I was laddering when I found this really cool idea of using Feraligatr and the new Kabutops on the same team. I peaked at about 1446 around the 200s. The only thing I'm having problems with is the Seismitoad + Grass shit core that plagues the NU meta. Here it goes.

feraligatr.gif

Feraligatr @ Mystic Water
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 24 HP / 252 Atk / 232 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake

Dragon Dance Feraligatr is often overlooked for the more popular SD set. But personally I think the Dragon Dance set is more of a threat as long as you can set it up. The EV spread allows it to outspeed the majority of the unboosted metagame(screw Accelgor) while also keeping some bulk and maxing out it's attack. The moves have gone through some changes. I used to have Aqua Jet>Earthquake but why have a speed boosting move when you have priority on the same set? Mystic Water is the item of choice because most likely while setting up Feraligatr will take damage, so Torrent + Mystic Water + DD Boost = Total destruction.

kabutops.gif

Kabutops @ Life Orb
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet

The second half of my water spamming offense, Kabutops plays a bit differently as it requires a bit more support from the team in order to succeed. I choose Battle Armor over Weak Armor only to avoid crits. Besides, one of my team members Thunder Waves everything anyways, so I don't see the need for it. After one SD, Kabutops reaches a threatening 658 Attack stat, and after 2 Swords Dances it's pretty much gg.

ferroseed.gif

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball

Part 1 of my amazing defensive core, Ferroseed's main goal is to set up the rocks and spam Thunder Wave. Ferro's amazing bulk with Eviolite pretty much allows it to take any attack and retaliate or use Leech Seed to gain some health back as well as get the residual damage on. It also can usually take any unSTAB super effective hit. It works especially well with a special wall known as...

dragalge.gif

(wtf is this thing anyways)

Dragalge @ Assault Vest
Ability: Poison Point
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Dragon Tail
- Dragon Pulse
- Sludge Bomb
- Scald

Dragalge is an amazing special wall, and when you slap on an assault vest, it becomes a monster. It's ability and moves help make up for it's lack of power as it can poison/burn mostly any threat with Sludge Bomb/Scald/Poison Point. This used to be a Toxic Spikes set with the Black Sludge, but decided against it due to it already spreading statuses and the fact that Ferroseed T-Waves everything anyways. The only problem with this core is it's weakness to MixedMortar.

mesprit.gif

Mesprit @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Signal Beam
- Energy Ball
- Healing Wish

The monster of NU itself, Mesprit plays the role as a revenge killer and a nice switch in to anything that doesn't carry STAB Knock Offs or Shadow Balls. I choose Choice Scarf as the item as I don't really have definite speed with this team, and Mesprit is a fantastic Scarfer. Another amazing thing about Mesprit is the move Healing Wish, allowing it to heal burns and paralysis on the two main sweepers. I carry Signal Beam>Shadow Ball to deal with Pawniard switch ins, as Mesprit is usually set up bait for Pawniard. Shadow Ball's only purpose is to hit other Mesprit and Uxie anyways, so why bother?

pyroar.gif

Pyroar (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Hyper Voice
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power [Grass]

When XY first came out, for some reason I found Pyroar amazing. I like this thing a bit more than Specs Typhlosion as the latter relies on not getting hit to fire off Eruptions. Pyroar does lack good coverage moves and a good ability, but it does pack a punch. I choose Pyroar as the last slot as I had nothing to take down bulky grass types such as Ferroseed and Vileplume.

Importable:
Feraligatr @ Mystic Water
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 24 HP / 252 Atk / 232 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake

Kabutops @ Life Orb
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball

Dragalge @ Assault Vest
Ability: Poison Point
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Dragon Tail
- Dragon Pulse
- Sludge Bomb
- Scald

Mesprit @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Signal Beam
- Energy Ball
- Healing Wish

Pyroar (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Hyper Voice
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power [Grass]

So, what do you think? :]

Hey there! I really like the little Kabutops + Feraligatr core you have going! However, I immediatly see that your team has no ways of breaking through the combination of Ferroseed and Seismitoad, as together they wall the entirety of your team bar none, as your only real check will be playing 50/50s constantly. Furthermore, your team also has difficulty punching through the likes of Pelipper or Lanturn, who can cause a big issue as it is pretty much able to take anything your team can throw at it. Offensively, you are pretty pressured by the likes of SG Klinklang, who uses Ferroseed as setup fodder, and can dispose of the rest of your team.

The easiest way for you to beat all of the aforementioned bulky pokemon is to simply use MixMortar over Pyroar. MixMortar with a Life Orb is pretty much just as strong, and although it lacks speed, it has a huge advantage in coverage. Common threats which you mentioned such as Water/Grass defensive cores are easily ripped through by Mortar, and furthermore it can bait out the likes of Dragalge and Lanturn for a quick Earthquake, making sweeping much easier for your water types. By doing so, you really aren't half as weak to most defensive pokemon, and have a much more flexibility when playing due to the gained coverage and power.

Magmortar @ Life Orb / Expert Belt | Vital Spirit
Rash | 252 SAtk / 4 Atk / 252 Spd
Fire Blast / Flamethrower | Thunderbolt | Hidden Power [Grass] | Earthquake

Minor Changes:
Feraligatr: Your team is pretty weak to SG Klinklang, BD Slurpuff, etc. and you need as much priority as possible to try to widdle them down and take them out in the chance that they set up. Furthermore, Dragon Dance Feraligatr is incredibly weak without teh support of spikes, and with the common-ness of strong priority in the current metagame, it is ineffective. Isntead, I reccomend you just run standard Sword Dance Feraligatr, giving you a chance to run priority while boosting your offenses higher quickly, while having Priority means you aren't easily revenged by common scarfers.
Dragalge: 252 SAtk Modest > 252 SDef, since Dragalge is incredibly bulky anyways but you need the offense to prevent yourself from being setup on.
Mesprit: Dazzling Gleam + Trick / HP Fire > Signal Beam + Energy Ball, as Dazzling Gleam gets much better neutral coverage than even the combination of Signal and EBall, and opening room for either Trick or HP Fire gives you the opportunity to shut down walls or prevent yourself from being raped by Steel types.

Hope this helped!

I don't think this team is that bad but it suffers from some suboptimal sets. I disagree with Brawlfest's suggestion of Magmortar because you ~really~ don't want to deal with the massive drop in Speed tiers (losing out on everything from Sawk to Mismagius, many of which are really important benchmarks particularly for balanced teams). If you want a better way to pressure bulky Waters then you should just change Pyroar to a Life Orb set with Will-O-Wisp over Dark Pulse, since you can switch up moves and dent Fire resists with an LO Hyper Voice / HP Grass and burn stuff like Mantine to capitalize on their lack of recovery, and Dark Pulse doesn't provide any notable coverage bar Lampent which is near-nonexistent.

If you're paranoid about Ferroseed, then you can opt to try and lure it in by running Superpower on one of your Water-types which aids your primary goal in breaking down checks for each other. I'm also going to agree that Swords Dance Gatr is probably better for this team because the extra power is typically better midgame and the extra priority is useful as well. The set I'd suggest for this team would be SD | Aqua Jet | Waterfall | Ice Punch with Superpower as an option over the latter two moves, and an EV spread of 144 HP / 252 Atk / 112 Spe provides as much bulk as possible while allowing you to outspeed max Speed Pawniard.

Aside from that, I think Assault Vest Dragalge is pretty inferior to Black Sludge due to the extra insurance provided against physical attackers (most notably Fighting-types) and the fact that the passive recovery actually lets it outlast AV variants in checking attackers. I would look into a set like the one listed here with Toxic Spikes and a more defensively oriented EV spread to better check the likes of Gurdurr. It somewhat clashes with Ferroseed's Thunder Wave, but I think Protect would be a better option on Ferro anyway on this team because the ability to scout out moves is nice to ensure your defensive core isn't worn down as easily.

I think your Mesprit set is mostly fine as is although U-turn is an option over Signal Beam (even with a -Atk nature) because escaping counters is nice while still doing decent damage to Psychics and Darks. A fully physical set with Zen Headbutt, Knock Off, and U-turn is also viable although it makes you weaker to Gurdurr and Water-types

dat blast's suggestions are really good, and I highly recommend trying them out. aside from these, I recommend running toxic or protect on ferroseed over thunder wave. gyro ball + thunder wave is a really terrible combination, so getting rid of one of them is important. I'd say thunder wave isn't too necessary because your team is pretty fast as it is, so you're better off keeping gyro ball.

gurdurr and seismitoad look to be pretty annoying for your team. both of them can take on your water-types well, the former with its amazing bulk and the latter with its great typing and bulk. further, gurdurr has mach punch for pyroar and kabutops, two of your main offensive Pokemon. to help out with this, you can try out expert belt rotom-s over pyroar. this gives you another offensive check to gurdurr that can also lure in and kill seismitoad. here's the set:

@ expert belt | levitate
4 def / 252 spa / 252 spe | timid
thunderbolt / volt switch / air slash / hidden power grass

gl with the team
