Sets

Articuno @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Impish Nature (+Def., -SA)
56 Atk. / 138 Def. / 252 Spd. / 64 SD

Tail Wind
Reflect
Somersault
Heal Bell

- Not the usual choice of Articuno, but it could work. Each one of the moves can combo with Somersault.

Articuno @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Calm Nature (+SD, -Atk.)
20 HP / 252 Def. / 232 SA / 6 SD

Ice Beam
Feather Rest
Roar
Reflect

- With Feather Rest, Articuno loses its flying type, so with Reflect, Articuno has some help with defensive power. Roar is there to get rid of pesky Skarmories and Ice Beam is there for STAB.

Overview

- Articuno has been losing its popularity for quite a while now, and everyone knows how to counter it. At least with some of these sets, Articuno can maybe help other pokemon out, not so much knock out ones. Learning Somersault has also slightly helped Articuno. I didn't put Mind Reader + Sheer Cold down because everyone could now predict it. Overall, what do you guys think about Articuno?

new rock attacks + 4 times stealth rock weak hurt it alot. If it had a fighting resist it would be alot better. I doubt anyone who really wants to win would use it. It didnt really get anything useful to it.

There was an Articuno thread not long ago with better sets. The general consesus is that its defensive stats aren't good enough with a 4x rock weak in the current metagame. It's a BL defensive poke to be sure (though it will see some use should OHKOs turn out to be not banned).

Forcing switches with Mind Reader, Sheer Cold and stealth rock down would be great in a OHKO environment. Too bad most people don't even want to try it out.

EDIT: Mind Reader, not Lock-on.

Random Poke used Stealth Rock!

Articuno was ****ed.

Randomk Poke used Rock Slide!

Articuno was ****ed.

Random Poke used Fire Blast!

Articuno was ****ed.

Random Poke used Stone Edge!

Articuno was ****ed.

See? It's beaten by four of the most common moves in the new metagame. It may even fall to UU.

The HP and defenses coupled with bad speed don't make up for it's weaknesses. I wouldn't use it in standard. A neat UU thingy, perhaps but I can't see it any bigger than that.

There are many different things you can do with the Articuno (such as the Somersault set). I want your input on what sets would be good.

I think I'll still use the ReStalk set for stalling. Though I'm never keeping it in against anyone with stone edge or rock slide...

Articuno @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Reflect
-Haze
-Heal Bell
-Toxic

Yep... high SpD, high Def from reflect, haze away those stat-uppers and heal your team while doing damage with toxic? I dunno :[

All-support movepools are generally a bad idea. Taunt means death. Only Umbreon pulled it off in ADV and only because it had no other choice, really.

Haze is another point of contention. What would it come in to Haze? If it tries to haze Garchomp, it'll eat a Stone Edge. If it tries to Haze Dos, it'll get taunted. If it tries to haze Azelf, it'll get t-bolted. =/

The problem with articuno has always been its weakness to too many of the utility/main types out there... Lots of physical pokemon have a rock move on them, with Gyro Ball being tested out and used, Steel is more of a threat than it was before arguably. Lots of pokemon have Fire Blast for backup to beat up Skarmory which has the same fire weakness as Articuno. And then you have Thunderbolt which a lot of special pokemon carry. And the before mentioned 4x stealth rock weakness hurts its defensive capabilities/usability. Shame because of the 3 birds Articuno is my favorite. Well designed visually.

In XD it gets Heal Bell and Extrasensory... At least thats something.

Bad thing about that is steel types. I don't support toxic on Articuno this gen. You have to have ice beam or somersault to get anywhere.

The only generation where Articuno was "shining" was Advance really. Good job nerfing the most borked types in the game with Stealth Rock, Gamefreak.

Feather Rest only goes for the turn it's used by the way. It has the most overrated side effect ever since Serene Grace Blissey.

That's if Garchomp carries Stone Edge, which most don't seem to.

Why would you haze Garchomp anyway? Just ice beam it back to the dirt it came from.

An Articuno set without an attacking move is major fail.

As there was an Articuno thread not long ago, and I really see nothing coming out of this at all, locking.
