Intro: So here's the deal. I took up competitive battling, with glee i might add, in october, with the release of pokemon x and y. After months and months of training, breeding, and combating this generations most prominent threats, i made a team that lasted for a long time. However, nothing lasts forever, and I scrapped it largely due to talonflame. Now, I'm trying to get back on my feet with a new team, one I created around a week ago and have had some success with. That doesn't mean this team is perfect, in fact it's far from it. My team contains glaring weaknesses to some common pokemon, and has its share of ineptitudes. Please help me hammer out something a little better, and try to keep in mind that I primarily battle on pokemon Y, and my showdown account hasn't been used in months. I will try battling there with this team and try to see post replays, if that would be helpful. Thanks for reading and critiquing!!! I REALLY appreciate it!

Constance (Charizard) @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Dance
- Thunder Punch
Ahhh, my dear constance. She's usually my MVP, packing amazing attack and fantastic moves to pick from. She, of course, is my mega, and is on my team as a sweeper. I usually whip her out late game unless its unavoidable, because the lower my enemies' hp bars, the easier I can tear them apart with this beast. Dragon Claw is probably my primary attacking move, and its not hard to see why. Dragon remains a powerful type despite the introduction of the ubiquitous fairies, and tough claws boosted dragon claw easily tears holes in much of my opposition. Flare blitz is my nuke, and I use it sparingly, knowing that it could very well cost me the life of my precious sweeper. These two attacks in tandem offer great coverage, and allow me to sweep many teams missing a wall or two. Thunder punch may seem odd (??? I don't actually know the standard set), but I can assure you it serves a vital function. This is the elimination of Azumarill. Azumarill is a huge threat to anyone, and one of my favorite things to do is to destroy belly drumming variants thinking they can force me out. Some might think togekiss is a safe switch in and predict an earthquake, but if adequately weakened, I can pick it off. Dragon dance is obvious and EVs aren't anything special, I want to be as fast as possible and hit hard.
Afro bby (Landorus-Therian) (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 88 Spd / 172 Def
Naive Nature
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Stealth Rock
Afro Bby is almost always the lead on my team. His overall versatility and usefulness makes him the glue that keeps me alternating between walls and sweepers while retaining most of my momentum. Stealth rock is an obvious move on this set, and is an extremely necessary component of my team used for weakening mandibuzz, opposing charizards, talonflame, and volcarona, all of which are common sites and dangerous threats. U-turn is the most important move on the set, and it allows me to slap an intimidate on something and quickly high tail it outta there, usually bringing in Lord Ducky or ScienceBro. HP ice is a simple move, and i use it for gliscor, salamence, garchomp and others. Earthquake is basically a stab move thrown in for fun. Rocky helmet is used to further weaken talonflame or charizard after rocks and totally not because I can't get another leftovers... haha.... EVs are completely stolen from gen 5 analysis because why not. They still work.
Patrick (Starmie) @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump
- Psyshock
- Rapid Spin
Sweet patty, what would i do without you?Have a life? Starmie is a hella sweet pokemon, and I've used one in almost all of my games. On my team, I personally feel that starmie holds everything together, but in a completely different way than landorus. Starmie is a status absorber. Starmie is my best check to gengar. Starmie makes charizard live because of rapid spin. Starmie does it all. I love starmie. Ice beam for lati twins, psyshock to those pesky fighting types that could otherwise hurt a good deal of my pokemon, and for gengar, who is probably my nemesis. Hydro pump is my little present to whatever is unfortunate enough to get hit by it. His high speed tier is also a godsend to my team, as it allows me to revenge kill tons of fast opponents. Overall, a great addition to my team. EVs are standard offensive.
SexyLegs (Conkeldurr) (F) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts (Katanakaran)
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SDef / 4 HP (Fr33dom)
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Ice Punch
- Knock Off
Conkeldurr was recommended by Genesisboi7, and fills the role of a bulky attacker and utility pokemon. With knock off, I can cripple things like chancey and opposing porygon2s. Its drain punch is a fantastic way to heal myself while killing the opponent. It also makes a grat lure for latios and gengar, thinking they might be able to come in on a fighting move when i'm actually about to smash them with with a dark or ice move that will ohko or in latios' case weaken it enough to be picked off by priority. the conk is also a fantastic counter against excadrill, the most common spinner in ou. The EVs I use give me maximum mixed bulk. Iron fist was chosen because I already have a status absorber.
Lord Ducky (Porygon2) @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 32 Def / 224 SDef / 252 HP
Calm Nature
- Discharge
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Recover
LORD DUCKYYYYY!!!!! I love this guy, He's like the cutest for me and the spawn of satan for any opponent not carrying knock off! Lord ducky is my all in one solution to greninja, talonflame, and gengar, and can also usually outstall non DD tyranitar. Trace allows me to copy great abilities, primarily protean (my favorite) or multi scale. Porygon also makes a reliable gliscor check, as it gains poison heal and can take its attacks even without eviolite. recover is for healing, Discharge for spamming, and ice beam for great coverage alongside it. Toxic is for opposing porys and bulky pokemon. He's the primary (pretty much only) wall on my team, and is extremely useful and versatile, often winning me matches when I'm down 1-3. The EV's were standard in OU last generation, and aim to give me as much survivability as possible against the plethora of special hard hitters.
ScienceBro (Magnezone) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon
I've read some things about how magnezone isn't as good this generation, but I have to disagree. Ferrothorn can be a huge pain for my team if charizard is down, and this guy is great at stopping him and forretress, eliminating the opponent's hazards and spinner, respectively. magnezone is also my exremely valuable fairy check, and can usually live a fire blast from things like clefable or a flamethower from certain variants of togekiss and retaliate hard. Magnezone also forms a little volturn core with landorus, something that suits them both well as they have good type synergy together, with afro bby immune to ground, and magnezone resisting ice. The EVs on this set aim to outspeed base 110s with a scarf. This can also give me a surprise edge against some taloflame sets and allows me to outspeed and KO scizor when weakened. Suggested by fr33dom.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that you've seen my team, I'll list the most problematic pokemon and play styles for me to deal with, though there isnt really anything that I havent been able to work around.
Pokes:
Mamoswine- Can decimate much of my team. I usually sacrifice lando and take it on with porygon, charizard, or starmie. Late game this thing hurts.
Gengar- I really only have 2 checks for this pokemon, though to be honest I've never needed more. Porygon alternates between discharge and recover for paralysis while my starmie can KO outright.
Latios- Definitely the hardest thing for me to beat. If my starmie is down, I usually have to use porygon or my magnezone to batter it and hopefully kill it.
Styles:
Baton passing: ugh i hate this. I can kill most of them but baton passing gliscor is tough if it gets a sub up. scolipede is also hard to take down.
Light screen and reflect/bulky tanks- Can occasionally defeat me if I'm missing a few key pokemon.
Trick room hasn't beaten me yet, but has given me trouble in the past.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats pretty much all! I'm pretty new at this, but I love to use this team for its sheer power coupled with good momentum and Lord Ducky. Please I know its not perfect, so I would appreciate some advice. Lilligant needs to go, and I can't decide what to replace her with. I hope this isn't too difficult to read! I just joined and i've never done this before :) If you'd like to battle this team, whether in game or on showdown, just ask!
Thanks!
