[SET COMMENTS]
Obstagoon finds its place in the tier as a wallbreaker, boasting a solid Attack stat boosted further by Guts. However, it faces stiff competition in this role, vying against hard hitters such as Dracovish and Galarian Darmanitan. Nonetheless, it has a niche with the utility it provides through Knock Off, Taunt, and status absorption. The given EV spread and natures make full use of Obstagoon's offensive capabilities; Adamant hits harder and still outspeeds unboosted Gyarados, but Jolly can be used to push Obstagoon up the Speed tier. Flame Orb is the item of choice to proc Guts and double Facade's power. Facade is Obstagoon's Normal-type STAB and go-to move most of the time, breaking even bulky foes without resistance or immunity to it. Max Strike has slightly lower power but reduces the foe's Speed. Knock Off is the preferred Dark-type STAB that provides power and utility, covering for Ghost-types, which are immune to Facade, such as Galarian Corsola, Dragapult, and Aegislash and crippling the former by removing its Eviolite. Max Darkness sacrifices utility for more power, nagging the OHKO on Aegislash. Close Combat is a powerful coverage move against Rock- and Steel-types such as Tyranitar and Ferrothorn, which resist Facade. Max Knuckle increases Attack upon use without drawbacks, albeit losing power. Obstruct is Obstagoon's signature that activates Flame Orb, stalls for Dynamax, scouts moves, and softens defenses to often force switches for free chip damage. Taunt is an option to deter a lot of Pokemon that are outsped; walls such as Toxapex, hazard setters such as Seismitoad, and setup sweepers such as Gyarados are locked out of their niche moves. Gunk Shot provides a better move against Grass- and Fairy-types such as Flapple and Clefable. When Dynamaxed, it loses power but never misses. Bulk Up may be considered as well to beef up Obstagoon's power and bulk, but be wary of revenge killers, especially Ditto.

Obstagoon fits well with most balanced teams to break through walls and provide utility. Obstagoon's ability to pummel defenses pairs it well with late-game cleaners and sweepers such as Dragapult, Gengar, and Barraskewda; the former two can also take in Fighting-type moves for Obstagoon, while it takes Dark- and Ghost-type moves for them in return. Obstagoon also provides support to them by switching into status conditions they dislike. Poison-types such as Toxapex and the previously mentioned Gengar resist all of Obstagoon's weaknesses; it helps them by switching into Psychic-type moves. Entry hazard support from Seismitoad and Ferrothorn is also appreciated to cap off more KOs.

Obstagoon should definitely not be running a defensive set, its whole purpose is breaking through pretty much everything with Flame Orb + Guts. Please update the main set to show this. If you have questions feel free to pm a QC member, but I don’t recommend reserving mons that you’re not comfortable writing about.

I was about to put an offensive set last night, but I fell asleep indefinitely. Sorry and nevertheless, I have reflected the changes suggested. I'll try to have it QC-ready within this day. Thank you for the input :).

I pretty much always used Obstagoon and I must say it's pretty decent in offensive roles, as well as being sort of a constant threat for a lot of ghost types which cannot cripple it. I would reccomend also a set with choice scarf (with Jolly it reaches 475Spe) and parting shot (which is useful even on a Guts set to put some preassure)

I appreciate the enthusiasm and suggestions, but we'll have to consult QC on these. Perhaps, they'll consider that, and if they give the go signal, I'll gladly write about it.

Why does this set lack Obstruct? Obstruct nets you an [almost free] Flame Orb activation while, if your opponent makes contact with Obstagoon that turn, harshly lowers their Defense. This can be really strong against tanks like Corviknight which might try to straight out attack Obstagoon to try to take it out as quickly as possible and forces Corviknight into a nasty mindgame.
Grass- and Fairy-types such as Flapple and Clefairy
I'm going to go out on a limb and pray you actually meant Clefable and not Clefairy.

Obstruct has been moved from mentions to main set, and fixes have been made. Thank you :).

What about a Banded Reckless set like this:

Obstagoon @ Choice Band
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Double-Edge
- Knock Off
- Close Combat
- Parting Shot

This might be an extra mention, but maybe not an actual list set with an import and all that. You could mention that Banded Reckless Double-Edge hits slightly harder than Guts Facade, but wears down the goon much faster.

Thanks for the input, dood, but I don't really think we can put it into the analysis, at least not at this time when we are just doing previews. There's really no OO section in the preview analysis format, and we try to keep things as short as possible (only really doing two sets when they function very differently; in this case, they play the same role.)

On another note, I think a Reckless set is inferior to a Guts one, as you lose your "niche" status absorption. The extra damage output of DE (16 BP, is it not?) is also not that significant to sacrifice survivability + ability to switch moves (w/o Dmax). Yes, tho, in the future, the set might be mentioned on full-on analyses most likely. The only way it gets in the analysis rn is if QC explicitly says it deserves a mention.

Thank you.

There's a lot of issues with this, the main of which being the sheer length of the analysis and all the fluff that we'd have to remove in the qc process; it'd be a lot of work for us. Aside from the length, there's a lot of inaccuracies (claims it has a niche because of its utility, mentions a lot of other moves that frankly aren't worth considering, some dodgy team options etc.) and signs that the writer isn't really too familiar with the tier. Gonna unfortunately be a reject from me.

QC Reject 1/2
