With one of the highest Special Attack stats and most colorful movepools in the entire metagame, Octillery is more than capable of breaking apart even the bulkiest of defensive centerpieces. Playing purely an offensive role allows Octillery to invest fully into its Speed, soaring past an assortment of Pokemon such as Machoke, Grapploct, and Vespiquen. Ice Beam nails Grass-types like Shiinotic, as well as Leafeon on the switch. Energy Ball helps deal with opposing Water-types like Seaking, Wartortle, and opposing Octillery, and especially beats Water-types doubly weak to Grass like Palpitoad, Whiscash, and Corsola. Fire Blast nails Charjabug, Klang, and keeps Shedinja from walling Octillery. Conversely, dropping Fire Blast for Water Spout allows Octillery to reliably 2HKO tanks like Dusclops and Lickitung. Octillery fits best on bulky offensive teams that appreciate it breaking down opposing walls. Choice Specs capitializes on Octillery's immense Special Attack, whereas Expert Belt capitalizes on its expansive movepool.

If you decide to use Choice Specs be sure to lock Octillery into the best move for whatever the predicted switch-in will be: Hydro Pump is by far its safest option as it's generally a 3HKO at worst against most Pokemon. If using an Expert Belt, note Octillery's inability to no longer break very specially bulky Pokemon such as Dusclops, so pair it with stallbreakers like Ivysaur and Galarian Linoone. Octillery appreciates fast pivot such as Silvally-Ice, Persian, and Galarian Linoone that attracts Rock- and Steel-type Pokemon that Octillery beats. Grass-types such as Gourgeist-L and Dartrix appreciate Octillery being able to force out passive threats such as Vullaby and Hail Stall Eiscue. In return, they can take on threatening Pokemon to Octillery such as Shedinja and Maractus. Healing Wish support from teammates like Mr. Mime can give a low health Octillery another chance to break as works incredibly well in tandem with Water Spout. If using Water Spout, hazard control is also important to have the strongest Water Spout available. Wish passers like Lickitung and Natu can also restore Octillery's health, with the latter even being able to Teleport. Slow pivots such as Volt Switch Charjabug and Teleport Slowpoke can let give Octillery the chance to come in without taking a hit first. Charjabug and Slowpoke can also provide Octillery with additional Speed control with Sticky Web and Trick Room respectively.

With one of the highest Special Attack stats and most colorful movepools in the entire metagame, Octillery is more than capable of breaking apart even the bulkiest of defensive centerpieces. Although at first glance it seems like Octillery sits in a crowded Speed tier, tying Machoke and Mudbray, Playing purely an offensive role allows it to invest fully into its Speed, soaring past the aforementioned base 45 pair as well as an assortment of other Pokemon such as Machoke, Mudbray, Hail stalling variants of Eiscue, and RestTalk Zweilous.(given that oct is a wallbreaker I think its implied to be faster than walls in its speed tier, and choker/mud can be listed with the other examples) Ice Beam nails Drakaloak on the switch, as well as Grass-types like Shiinotic and Gloom (try reversing these two examples because hitting grasses is the upmost important quality of Ice Beam). Psychic nails Pokemon like Machoke and Trubbish without relying on Hydro Pump's shaky accuracy. Energy Ball helps deal with opposing Water-types like Wartortle and opposing Octillery, and especially beats Water-types doubly weak to Grass like Palpitoad, Whiscash, and Corsola. Conversely, dropping Energy Ball for Water Spout allows Octillery to reliably 2HKO tanks like Dusclops and specially defensive Oranguru. However, dropping Energy Ball makes matchups against Pokemon like Wartortle and Palpitoad extremely rough. (Spout 2hkos smash wart after SR, and ice beam / psychic has a chance to 2hko palp; you outspeed both usually, so i wouldnt include this an “extremely rough” match up)(place the ebelt sentence here)

Octillery fits best on bulky offensive teams that appreciate it breaking down opposing walls. Choice Specs capitializes on Octillery's immense Special Attack, whereas Expert Belt capitalizes on its expansive movepool (move this sentence to above). If you decide to use Choice Specs be sure to lock Octillery into the best move for whatever the predicted switch-in will be: Hydro Pump is by far its safest option as it's generally a 3HKO at worst against most Pokemon. If using an Expert Belt, note Octillery's inability to no longer break Pokemon such as Dusclops, so pair it with stallbreakers like Ivysaur and Galarian Linoone. Grass-types such as Gourgeist-Large and Dartrix appreciate Octillery being able to force out passive threats such as Vullaby and Hail variants of Stall Eiscue. In return, they can take on threatening Pokemon to Octillery such as Shedinja and Maractus. Healing Wish support from teammates like Cherrim or Mr. Mime can give a low health Octillery another chance to break as works incredibly well in tandem with Water Spout (cherrim is unviable now / was C rank thus not worth mentioning. Rework to include Wish users like natu and licky, and make a note that Natu’s Teleport brings it in safely and how potent that is against stall) . Slow pivots such as Volt Switch Charjabug and Teleport Slowpoke can let give Octillery the chance to come in without taking a hit first. Charjabug and Slowpoke can also provide Octillery with additional Speed control with Sticky Web and Trick Room respectively, although if using Octillery on Trick Room, it should run an Expert Belt as well as a Quiet nature with 0 Speed EVs and IVs. (More of a set detail than teamsupport. I don’t think TR is relevant enough for a set mention but is implied anyways if someone builds with full TR in mind)

Conversely, dropping Energy Ball Fire Blast for Water Spout allows Octillery to reliably 2HKO tanks like Dusclops and specially defensive Oranguru I think Lickitung is a better example due to its highest viability in the current metagame. Octillery fits best on bulky offensive teams that appreciate it breaking down opposing walls. Choice Specs capitializes on Octillery's immense Special Attack, whereas Expert Belt capitalizes on its expansive movepool. Don't forget to add comments on Fire Blast (Shedinja, higher damage vs Klang/Charjabug)

If using Water Spout, hazard control is important to have the strongest Water Spout available.
