-Odd ForeCast-

Intro

I've been a member of this forum for a while, and I have posted a couple times here or there. I've always wanted to post an RMT here, so here's my first. I still prefer PO to PS so I battle there, but using ya'lls tiers, I'd like to showcase one of my latest team's. This team was a complete accident, which you can tell with the odd cast of Pokemon. It had some mild success on the Beta ladder peaking at 1300 on PO, before dropping to like 1200 something (I have a lack of patience with laddering & once i go on a losing streak I quit). I didnt really predict this teams success or even its creation, and seeing how its a rain team, I donned it; -Odd ForeCast-.

I already knew I was gonna be building a Rain Team. When it comes to inducing rain, the best Mon for the Job was Politoed. Next I needed a good Volt-Turn core, and i stumbled across a strange one that consisted of a Taunt lead with Volt-Switch (Cobalion), and a Bulky Intimidating U-Turner with Stealth Rock (Landorus-T). Then I added the first sweeper, a Pokemon I had heard was surprisingly good in Rain, and I had been wanting to try out (Volcarona). Obviously with the addition of Volcarona I now needed a Rapid Spinner, so I added an unorthodox set I had created to the team (Wartortle). This is basically all the team minus Latias who was conveniently leftover from the old team I had scrapped to build this one, and she proved herself quite useful. This team definitely lives up to its name, odd Pokemon, some not native to OU led to some unpredictability, and led this team to have success. It was by far one of my favorite teams to use, and one of my most original.

Individual Summaries

thumb_cobalion.jpg

Cobalion @ Expert Belt
Trait: Justified
EVs: 28 Atk / 228 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Taunt
- Close Combat
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Summary
This is my interchangeable lead (the other being Landorus-T). Taunt and Volt Switch are the two most important moves on this set, as they provide me with momentum. Taunt is there as a first attempt to prevent hazards from crippling Volcarona later on, and Volt Switch to switch out if the matchup is in my opponents favor. Close Combat provides me with a powerful STAB to hit hard if I chose to stay in, and the I have Hidden Power [Ice] to round off BoltBeam on the set.

thumb_politoed.jpg

Politoed (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Perish Song
- Protect

Summary
It's funny before this Generation, this guy didn't even get a second glance. Now this guy is a staple to Rain teams, there is no rain team without Politoed. This is his role, and his only use. The only thing on this set that stands out is Ice Beam, and that's because I got so fed up with Dragons setting up on me I replaced Toxic, a move I didn't use that often, with it to ensure I wasn't the victim of a Dragon sweep.

thumb_landorus-therian.jpg

Landorus-T (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 200 HP / 64 Atk / 228 Def / 16 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Summary
My Secondary Lead, and designated U-turner. He also has Stealth Rock so when I get to sweeping, I have some kind of hazard to support it. Then to round off the set I have the EdgeQuake combo. His synergy with Cobalion is pretty good, and they make a good Volt-Turn Core.

thumb_wartortle.jpg

Wartortle (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic
- Rapid Spin
- Protect

Summary
This is a set of my creation, and it works really well. People tell me; why not use Blastiose? My answer is that Eviolite Wartortle is bulkier, and I'm not lying if you're looking for good all around bulk. What makes him a good Rapid Spinner isn't just his bulk, but the fact his ability overides the fact that you can't have leftovers when your using Eviolite. The Ability Rain Dish acts like Wartortles leftovers as long as the Rain is pouring. I have never had a situation where I didnt get my spin and the hazards gone. So this guy is obviously a success.

thumb_latias.jpg

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Recover
- Refresh

Summary
This set is often overlooked in favor of SubCM, but I rather prefer this set. I've never been a fan of Substitute, and this kind of set goes right down my alley. She was the biggest accident on this team, but she has panned out to be quite useful, and a great sweeper.

thumb_volcarona.jpg

Volcarona (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Hurricane
- Giga Drain

Summary
The Main Sweeper of the Team. His Fire Typing makes it seem like he would be at a disadvantage in rain, but nobody told him this. He has access to the best special boosting move in the game (Quiver Dance), and access to Hurricane and Giga Drain. Giga Drain allows it restore HP, and take out any water type that may threaten it, and Hurricane is an absolute nightmare in Rain. Bug Buzz provides a STAB move to round off the set. I chose Lum Berry over Life Orb, simply because I don't want to have a sweep hindered by paralysis or poison.

Final Words
Well that's my team, feel free to criticize etc. etc. I enjoyed this team, and I hope you guys enjoy the concept, cause you won't be getting the importable. :P

Hello.

This rain team you have here is very creative, using underrated threats like mixed Cobalion and the rarely seen Lum Berry Volcarona, so props to you for using them. Anyways, I see some flaws that can be ironed out, and I will try and help erase those flaws as best I can. With that said, let's get to the rate! Alright, first up, I'm going to be real blunt here and say that Wartortle simply does not work in this team for obvious reasons, and I would replace him with a Tentacruel. Tentacruel is an excellent Pokemon to have on rain teams, as it has great bulk, a great ability in Rain Dish, and it can provide your Volcarona Toxic Spikes support in order for it to sweep much easier. Up next, I would like to suggest changing your Latias EV spread to a simple one of 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd over your current spread. This spread is relatively simple, with Max HP for bulk and Max Speed to outspeed a good chuck of the OU tier. That's about it for what I can say for this team. Like i said, this one is very nice and I hope my advice helped in some way. Like I said before, this is a very nice team, so best of luck to you, and I hope your future endeavoure are very successful!

Hello, nice rain team you have! I also happen to run rain volcarona, but I run Fire blast over giga drain because it helps it deal with steel type pokemon easier, plus it's STAB so the rain dosen't make it lose all it's power. In my opinion volcarona helps take down threats to rain teams, so fire blast deals with scizor, forretress, and ferrothorn easily, and looking at your team ferrothorn can wall your team unboosted except for coballion, but iron barbs and possibly rocky helemt can cripple your coballion, so having volcarona as your ferrothorn counter would help this team out. Plus huricane can already deal with water types, and one special water move once volcarona is boosted won't take it down thanks to quiver dance's SpD boost.

Also in my opinion I think you should replace perish song or ice beam with toxic. Perish song should already help with dragon sweepers and having ice beam and perish song are redudent together if your after dragon type sweepers.

Otherwise I don't see other flaws on this team, but I hope my suggestions were helpful.

Hello

The team at the moment looks quite creative and I really do like it's build of being defensive rain without the complete rain stall build. Cobalion is definitely a boss in this metagame and is very underrated. I like how the team also uses some offense too to balance it out, especially with the unique Latias. Overall it is a very solid team and I like it a lot, but there are some changes you should definitely put into consideration.

You should definitely change Wartortle to Tentacruel like Dr.Ciel suggested. But instead of Toxic Spikes, you should run Toxic instead. Toxic Spikes is not very good in this metagame and Toxic is the superior option by far. You can now poison dragons like Latias, Dragonite, and Kyurem as they come in. Tentacruel is overall the completely better spinner in this metagame and Wartortle is just flat out terrible. Even in NU it struggles to be useful as a Rapid Spinner.

Good luck!

Hey there,

So this seems like a pretty cool and creative team, but I do see some weakpoints. Ok to start off like many users have told you already, Wartortle is fairly outclassed in OU, and I would take Dr Ciel's suggestion of Tentacruel > Wartortle. This has been explained pretty thoroughly in previous posts, so I wont go into too much detail but Tentacruel essentially gives you a more reliable spinner as well as Toxic Spikes which Volcarona really enjoys.

Ok so other major threats to your team seem to be Tornadus and opposing Lati@s. Both can come in on a large portion of your team and threaten with their strong STABs. To a lesser extent Dragon-Types, particularly ones with access to speed boosting, look fairly troublesome if Landorus-T gets worn down. For this reason I would recommend using Scarf Jirachi > Cobalion. While this change does take a little bit of creativity out of your team, it does make it a bit more solid all around. Jirachi also does much of what Cobalion does and is a good lead/U-turn'r. Jirachi can easily tank stray Draco Meteors/Hurricanes and when paired with offensive pressure can do well vs Lati@s and Tornadus. A standard Iron Head / U-Turn / Ice Punch / Trick set should do well for you. This provides prime coverage, as well as giving you the ability to cripple a troublesome wall. Anyways, cool team man and gl.

Haha so much hate for poor Wartortle, you guys oughta try him out sometime haha (he might surprise you ;) ). Ima take all your advice into consideration, and see what works the best. ;)

Just a little nitpick, since i dont want to repeat the dragon user's rate, but i feel like the whole point of drizzle volcarona is that it can actually beat some steel types even under rain. it may seem stupid and counterproductive, but fire blast should be the first slash in any set. Fire blast is the best answer to get ride of ferrothorn even under rain, and without it you end up being walled by things what shouldnt never be able to stay in volca, like, Skarmory, sd scizor that can actually setup a sword dance and ko you with sr up, and its generally a better answer to any steel like special defense jirachi. So, if you are going to make this change, i think giga drain is the best move to replace, since hurricane already hits terrakion and keldeo for great damage and that move is used mainly for these two pokemon. Hope i helped :3
