About me:
Hey guys, I am Champ‡Xmaster and this is my first RMT. I have been an avid user on showdown for awhile, and I have noticed that I have always loved building teams and seem to be better at building than actually battling. My teams have been well-received by people I have passed them to, but I really want to get them evaluated on a formal setting. Thank you very much for your time and criticism. Please tell me how I can make my presentation more appealing as well.
Teambuilding Process:
Lucario: I knew That I wanted to build a team around lucario, giving it the ability to do some damage and sweep. I found that I was not always able to get off a swords dance, so I decided to try and make an offensive baton pass team.
Manaphy: Obviously since I decided to build a baton pass team, my baton passer should come next, but my mind does not think that linearly. The first thing that came to mind was that lucario is not going to be able to deal with most fighting types, fire types or ground types. Calm mind manaphy was my general answer given its ability to outlast a lot of pokemon.
Celebi: I chose celebi over something like mew because it was less common at the time, and natural cure often allowed it to last longer. It is also my answer to bulky water types, because Celebi has enough defensive bulk to do set up and do serious damage to slowbro, keldeo, rotom.
Talonflame: I wanted to complete the fire-water-grass trio, and I knew I needed some priority as well as an answer to mega venusaur and other celebi. I gave it will-o-wisp in order to weaken defensive hippowdon or garchomp and make it a lot easier for some of my other pokemon to take it out.
Mega Aerodactyl: Looking at these four pokemon, I saw mega charizard-Y and mega manectric as huge threats. I really wanted to keep the team offensive and I figured that mega aerodactyl would a great revenge killer because it can out speed both and it is great to baton pass into.
Latias: My team is very weak to rocks and I needed another special attacker to take care of physical walls. Bulky water types like slowbro, tentacruel, and rotom, were still threatening and celebi could not always handle them effectively. Healing wish also provides a great second chance for a paralyzed and worn down lucario or talonflame.
Team:
Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 108 Spe
Impish Nature
- Seed Bomb
- Baton Pass
- Recover
- Swords Dance
Celebi is the lead 90 percent of the time unless the user is sure the opponent is going to lead something like entei or heatran. A swords-dancing celebi catches many people off-guard and celebi is almost guaranteed to get a +2 baton pass after turn two, since the standard leads such as hippowdon, landorus-t, or garchomp usually set up rocks turn one. Seed bomb is for bulky water types that the rest of the team may have trouble with such as gastrodon, seismitoad, quagsire, slowbro, and especially lead rotom-w. It is sometimes worth getting that extra seed bomb off before baton passing. The speed evs allow celebi to outspeed most defensive heatran, defensive garchomp, adamant bisharp or timid bisharp that run hp investment, and defensive landorus-t's that may try and switch in. I put the rest of the evs in defense and gave it an impish nature so that it could reliably recover from miscellaneous knock offs and u-turns.
Talonflame @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost
This bulkier set allows Talonflame to switch in on things that may give the rest of my team trouble such as Mega venusaur, serperior, and Hoopa-U. The priority from Brave bird is also very helpful against pokemon that may try and set up on my team. It also blocks will-o-wisp and is able to handle common wisp-ers such as mega sabeleye fairly well. The Will-O-Wisp also weakens things like defensive garchomp, defensive landorus-t, and defensive hippowdon to a point where even their stone edges are not very threatening. I have considered switching Will-O-Wisp to taunt to block hazards, other taunts, whirlwinds and roars, and other pokemon from setting up, but I decided to stick with will-o-wisp and wait for the feedback.
Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Dragon Claw
Mega Aerodactyl provides the role of ultimate revenge-killer on this team. It's sheer power, speed, and coverage provide great sweeping potential, especial at +2 from celebi. The best thing about this pokemon is since it is so underused, many forget that it outspeeds mega manectric. Stone edge is great for STAB, and it also kills or heavily damages things like Mega Charizard Y, Volcarona, Tornadus-T, and Thundurus. Earthquake is there to kill raikou, mega manectric, and heatran. Iron head is a great coverage move against fairy types, opposing mega aerodactyl, and Kyurem-B. Dragon Claw is just a great 4th coverage move to have. I have been going back and forth between aerial ace for STAB and for grass/fighting types, especially breloom, but dragon claw seems to prove more useful.
Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Extreme Speed
- Crunch
This is the original sweeper that the team built around as well as the most utilized. I still run swords dance so that lucario can set up on its own late game if it needs too, but I have been considering replacing it with bullet punch. I used to run iron tail and earthquake over crunch, but after losing 5 games in a row due to missed iron tails, and earthquake not providing enough coverage, I decided crunch is the best option. Extreme Speed is the most commonly clicked move because a +2 extreme speed kills most pokemon late game with its priority. Inner focus has come in handy a few times, air slash togekiss usually can't OHKO, and not flinching from various fake-outs is aways helpful.
Manaphy @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Rain Dance
- Rest
This pokemon outlasts a lot of things that the sweepers can't kill at full hp like suicune, mandibuzz, togekiss, mega aggron, Mamoswine, Landorus-T, and Hippowdon. I have also beaten Rotom-w 1v1 after one calm mind was set up. After +2, some of the only ways to defeat this monster are to phase it out or to taunt it. The 16 speed EVs outspeed things like other manaphy, defensive jirachi, and defensive mew.
Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Healing Wish
After trying skarmory and excadrill, latios has proven to be the best pokemon for this slot as pivot and hazard removal. The 72 HP EVs just allow it to take hits better and switch in on the bulky water types it needs to kill such as slowbro, rotom-w and azumarill. It also helps with opposing skarmory. My team hates hazards, and latios does a great job at switching in and removing them. Healing wish also provides a second chance to lucario or mega aerodactyl which can prove to be really helpful.
Threat List:
There are two main immediate threats I can think of, and please feel free to add on. The first major threat to this team is any kind of phazer. Obviously this team relies a lot on getting set up, so whirlwind and roar can really kill momentum and diminish chances of a sweep. The second major threat is a lead, or a really fast pokemon with taunt. Prankster sabeleye, crobat, whimsicott, and lead azelf can sometimes really hinder this team in the beginning of games.
That's it for this team! Thank you guys very much for your time and ratings, I'd like to think that this isn't too bad for my first RMT. I'd really like to get well-known in this community and on showdown for my teambuilding so if people have suggestions on how do do that, I'd love to hear them also. Here is the importable for this team. http://pastebin.com/xmTt3N2u
