Offensive Metagame?

Everything I have read says DP has caused a fundamental shift away from the defensive metagame that dates back to GSC.

This is in total contrast to my local metagame of about a dozen people. The old RSE-FrLg standards still rule the day, and only a few additions are shaking things up...Rhyperior, Porygon Z, etc...

My main question is this: What changes in the new game has caused this supposed shift?

Why do you think my local metagame hasn't changed as much as the general metagame? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Choice Specs make special hitters hit hard. New pokemon like Garchomp, Old pokemon like Gyarados getting physical STABs where they didn't have them before, and similar for special like Gengar. New attacks.

However, there are new defensive pokemon such as Cress and Dusknoir.

Efforts make things a lot more offensive, so does nature. Items like Choice Band/Specs/Scarf and pokemon like Garchomp, Azelf and Tyranitar can sweep really fast so you need to sweep them even faster. The physical/special split give both kind of sweepers better attacking moves. Most of DP support moves are not "so good".

I think this is kinda an old discussion, but these are some of the things that changed the metagame. Probably you and your friends don't enoy using a team full of standards, maybe don't train effort, and use so offensive movesets, letting the game a little more defensive.

I have to agree with the "more offensive" metagame since as above have said more things get stab where they didnt before, as well as choice specs and nasty plot for special sweepers, another thing is that stealth rock can shorten matches and make sweepers job much easier.

However more offensive doesnt neccesarily mean that you CANT have a defensive poke or 2(or that a team of all sweepers is the "best), my weezing has earned his place on my team well for making garchomps take a wow or switch out(and the next poke into a WoW), and status effects have helped win alot of matches i otherwise would have lost

I actually shifted EVs into defense and hp alittle more because of the offensive nature, seemed to work pretty well, since most Choice banders/ect if they don't kill you with that heavy hit, they fall rather easily.

Speaking of defensive battles, I've just finished a one-hour battle that ended in a PP war. Maybe the metagame is not SO offensive '-'

Another thing that made the metagame was the Sleep Talk nerf (since 3rd gen), walls like Milotic or Cresselia would love to use Rest while sleeping, so they could recover HP and keep absorbing status, isntead of wasting a turn.
