Okay, so I'm pretty new to competitive battling, and after getting tired of getting owned by using weatherless teams and non-broken Pokemon in OU, I decided to try UU out. This set focuses on great synergy to avoid mispredictions on my part, as well as keeping up large amounts of offensive pressure.
Also, please excuse my crap formatting. First post, still testing the waters of the forum =P
So yeah, here's the team:
Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Trait: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Tail
Typically my lead unless the other's team dictates otherwise. He can set up rocks incredibly easily against most physical attackers and unlike other leads do some serious damage after rocks are up as well as defeay other common leads one on one. Edgequake for offensive presence, and dragon tail for phazing. I almost want to run Sandstorm over D-Tail for the special attack raise, but it reduce its usefulness as a counter to the threatening physical attackers of the tier, mainly Heracross and Honchcrow.
Snorlax @ Leftovers
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 188 SDef / 188 HP / 68 Atk / 64 Def
Adamant Nature
- Body Slam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Whirlwind
Typical RestTalk Snorlax. I find myself falling back against threats with this guy more often than not. He also packs some recovery, which is useful as most of my team lacks it. I find whirlwind kind of redundant but it's more useful with rocks up than T-Wave, which would be my alternate, is.
Sharpedo @ Life Orb
Trait: Speed Boost
- Earthquake
- Crunch
- Waterfall
- Protect
I tried this guy out in OU a few times, and he's actually a really great sweeper, especially with less mach punch flying around in UU. Fairly self explanatory, he's amazing late game and earthquake is appreciated immensely as he's the only one on the team that knows it bar rhyperior. Switching with him is a pain though, I typically like keeping him in until he dies, which isn't a problem as after a speed boost or two he outspeeds most scarfers.
Virizion @ Leftovers
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
I really wanted to love Viri when I started using it. I really did. After using this set, that happened. With his massive special bulk even when uninvested makes it easy to set up a calm mind then sweep mid game.
Arcanine @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Morning Sun
- Wild Charge
- Flare Blitz
Pretty standard Arcanine. I kind of want to put his speed EVs into HP and make him pretty hard to take down with morning sun, but he resides at an alright speed tier. Instant recovery is appreciated from recoil with life orb. He becomes pretty useless late game but can punch holes early to mid game pretty damn well. Flash fire over intimidate to absorb fire which poses a pretty big threat to some other team members.
Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
My panic button, and a damn good one at that. I know I should have a lot to say about him, but I don't. He's great late game.
Overall effectiveness against other types:
Bug: Resisted by Heracross, Arcanine, and Rhyperior and disposed of by all 3.
Dark: Resisted by Viri, and Heracross. Dealth with easily by both and arcanine with close combat. Arcanine is the only one of the 3 that can handle Honchcrow.
Dragon: Not resisted by anything, but with a special and physical wall I feel pretty confident against Flygon (Who is also OHKO'ed by hp ice from viri) but a little scared against Mr. One weakness kingdra.
Electric: Dealt with by Rhyperior. Raikou threatens the team if snorlax is gone.
Fighting: Heracross can kind of get a switch with fighting, but can't do much in return. A big issue.
Fire: I'm really really scared of the powerful fire types of the tier, and I actually chose arcanine over Victini (Perfect synergy With viri and sharpedo with both Fire/Water/gras and Dark/Fighting/Psychic) because of this. I think I take it pretty well with Rhyperior, Arcanine and to a lesser extent sharpedo, but he is usually too frail to switch into much of anything.
Flying: resisted by Rhyperior, and can be checked by Heracross as long as the flying type in question isn't scarfed (Looking at you, Honchcrow)
Ghost: No resistances but that isn't really a problem in my opinion. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I take ghosts pretty well.
Grass: Dealt with by Viri with HPice and Flare blitz from arcanine.
Ground: Rhyperior can take a hit from earthquake and retaliate, and viri can come in with her 4x resistance and HPice.
Ice: Arcanine, and to a lesser extent virizion (Long as she switches in on a death) and rhyperior can deal with Ices.
Normal: I'm not scared of anything but snorlax, which either Arcanine, my Snorlax if it gets lucky with Bodt slam paralysis, and Viri all take out.
Poison: Taken out by Rhyperior, Heracross, and basically everything. Seriously poison, get your shit together.
Rock (And more important Stealth rock) Only arcanine has a weak to rocks, but I like to be able to screw with HPice or focus blast if i'm feeling gutsy with viri, or rhyperior or Arcanine if it predicts a switch nicely or heracross if it does the same.
Steel: Most steels are dealt with nicely from a SE move on most of my team. Not really scared of their offensive presence either.
Water: Dealt with by Viri. My lack of water weaknesses concerns me slightly but I can still play with waters on the other side.
tl;dr
Rhyperior: Physical wall/Rocks setter/Phazer/Edgequake
Snorlax: Special wall/Staller/Attacker/Pseudo-Phazer
Arcanine: Fire absorber/LO attacker
Viri: Setup sweeper/Adds a healthy amount of resistances, definitely MVP
Sharpedo: Late/Mid game sweeper, wallbreaker/Broken ability abuser
Heracross: Revenge killer/Late game sweeper/Other broken ability abuser
And that's it. Thanks for reading through all my crap, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how I suck.
