Zapdos serves as a powerful wallbreaker while also sporting solid bulk in conjunction with Static to threaten common revenge killers such as Mega Lopunny and Choice Scarf Urshifu-R. In rain, it becomes even stronger, boasting a Water-type Weather Ball to threaten Gliscor, Garganacl, and Landorus-T and more accurate Thunder and Hurricane. Volt Switch allows Zapdos to freely pivot while doing very good damage, especially due to common Ground-types like Landorus-T and Great Tusk being greatly threatened by Hurricane. Hidden Power Ice allows Zapdos to hit Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Gliscor for massive damage. Heat Wave is used to surprise Ferrothorn trying to come in on a Thunderbolt or Hurricane as well as consistently threaten Mega Scizor. Flyinium Z allows Zapdos to KO chipped defensive Pokemon that would otherwise be out of range of a Hurricane. If Zapdos is not using Flyinium Z, then it can Tera Flying for stronger Hurricanes. Pokemon like Iron Boulder appreciate offensive Zapdos, as it can rack up chip damage on Pokemon that would otherwise annoy Iron Boulder, such as Garganacl, Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Ferrothorn. For rain teams, Zapdos can do good chunks of damage to Pokemon rain teams would otherwise struggle to break, such as Rotom-W and Ferrothorn. Galarian Slowking can comfortably take any of Zapdos's moves, and then set up a Future Sight, threaten to poison with Sludge Bomb, or pivot out into an offensive check with Chilly Reception. However, if Galarian Slowking is predicted to switch in, then Volt Switch can be used to gain momentum, allowing Zapdos to switch into something that can threatens Galarian Slowking like Great Tusk, Landorus-T, or Gliscor. Bulky Pokemon that resist one of Zapdos's STAB moves and then threaten Zapdos, like Heatran, Landorus-T, and Gliscor, can prove to be annoying. To help with this, Zapdos appreciates having teammates such as Gliscor and Ferrothorn.
