Introduction

Sup guys, this is my first ever rmt so bare with me if this rmt looks bad. But today im gonna show yall a team that got me to a pretty decent peak in the OU ladder, as well as a building process on how I built this HO. This building process could also help new players build HO teams and not just
some mediocre HO teams that have some pretty bad mons :worrywhirl:. I thought this team was actually pretty bad in the first place cuz it was struggling to make it past through the 1700s, but after some practice and grinding, I was able to make it to the peak that I am at rn. I am still a bad player tho so I still do want some suggestions and comments but without further ado, here is the team. Quick Note: Based from my experience, this team was pretty hard to play, so your gonna need to learn how to use it before actually winning games consistently. (also idk how to do minisprites so I’ll keep the descriptions short)

Also I forgot to take a ss of the proof of peak and save some replays so maybe the teambuilding process can convince u. :psycry:

How I found discovered Ogerpon-Cornerstone:

I was trying out some pretty cheap mons before discovering cornerstone. I was actually trying sd wellspring on webs since I don’t see sd wellspring much anymore since the pivot set is way better on bulky offense teams. I realized that sd wellspring with tera has enough power to break through its checks in certain positions, and when paired with webs, allows me to snowball easily unless they commit to tera or outspeed or some shit. The only problem with wellspring is that people are more prepared for this beast with tera. Some mons like molt, zap, corv, dozo, and other mons run tera to beat this. I didn’t like that a mon this strong could get stopped by tera, so I looked for an alternative. Then I found cornerstone exists and people were less prepared for this mon. So I decided to build around this mon.

Teambuilding Process:

Araquanid

:sv/araquanid:

Araquanid (F) @ Custap Berry
Ability: Water Bubble
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 248 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpA / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Surf
- Sticky Web
- Endeavor
- Endure

The webs setter of the team and the best webs setter imo for this team specifically. It can beat the spinners + court changers as well as preventing moth from 6-0ing your team. Water bubble is standard for hitting hard and resisting fire tyle attacks. Classic set here with the classic endure + custap combo to punish lead sweepers that wanna exploit you to try and win immediately. Surf over liquidation is chosen here since we have lots of physical attackers and sometimes on opposing HO teams that don’t have removal but have a taunt lando, they often trade lando for araq by taunting to prevent webs so surfing the lando opens up the rest of the team quite nicely. Tera ghost is needed on all hazard setters to prevent spinblocking and so this choiceis a no-brainer.

Ogerpon-Cornerstone

:sv/ogerpon-cornerstone:

Ogerpon-Cornerstone (F) @ Cornerstone Mask
Ability: Sturdy
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Power Whip
- Ivy Cudgel
- Knock Off

The star of the show: Ogerpon-Cornerstone. So some might say, “Why use Ogerpon-Cornerstone over Wellspring?” First of all it has the unique role compression of being good into both offense and fat teams, being able to trade sturdy to revenge kill sweepers that might be successful in exploiting araq and the offensive type combo + sd for fat teams that allow cornerstone to break through and make progress easily. Offensively, the type combo is amazing and not much mons are tera-prepared for this so it can easily break through and open up the other guys in the back. It is also a good stallbreaker, as it forces dozo or corv to tera and even then, if you crit you can potentially break through them. It can also hit flying types such as zapdos and dragonite which are pretty good anti-offense tools in the current metagame for immediate damage which is nice (correct me if im wrong). I chose sd + 2 stabs because this can maximize cornerstone’s breaking power. Knock Off is chosen over Low Kick as this team already has a phenomenal matchup into kingambit, having 3 mons that can beat it 1v1 and so knock off is chosen to hit dengo and crown for super effective damage. Power whip is also chosen over horn leech as its better paired with sd and idt this team needs cornerstone alive for long, since its goal is to break all kinds of builds with ease to open up the late game for my other sweepers. I went with the standard ev spread except jolly over adamant because it helps me outspeed specs enam which has been getting a lot popular lately.

Pecharunt

:sv/pecharunt:

Pecharunt @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Poison Puppeteer
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Parting Shot
- Malignant Chain
- Shadow Ball
- Recover

The primary spinblocker of the team. Imo a ghost is essential on every webs team because you need a spinblocker who can spinblock tusk and treads on offensive builds. The reason I chose this over gholdengo is because it has the trait of a tspikes absorber and checking the standard zama sets which this team can struggle with. Gholdengo doesn’t really like running defensive evs on HO builds because HO wants to keep applying offensive pressure to the enemy team. Although pech may seem passive for HO, its ability + malignant chain allows it to cripple mons like dnite, wellspring, zap, zama, sd val, and even moon with this combo. Its a spinblocker that also outspeeds tusk which is a nice trade because it allows you to sometimes trade with tusk or even win the 1v1 sometimes without committing to tera which there are some tera hogs on this team so this trait is appreciated. Shadow ball is chosen over hex since HO wants to play fast, so I might not have enough turns to chain, poison, then hex all at once. Parting shot to easenmy sweeper’s set up and to force midgrounds with tusk. Hdb so I don’t take rocks and not weak to hazards in general. The evs are to outspeed tusk, dengo, samu-h, and tera ghost since this mon’s goal is to spinblock consistently.

Great Tusk

:sv/great-tusk:

Great Tusk @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Headlong Rush
- Ice Spinner
- Rapid Spin

This guy checks everything that cornerstone is weak to, and can potentially use them as set-up fodder since this thing is broken. It checks gambit and removes hazards to keep cornerstone’s sturdy in games where I need it. This guy also benefits from the progress cornerstone makes which is good for HO since it allows this guy to sweep easily. Booster attack is chosen as I already have speed control with webs so speed isn’t needed. Standard bulk up set to 1v1 the likes of zama sometimes, lots of physical attackers, etc. Tera ice is chosen to have a 1 time check to kyurem since it can sometimes get out of hand and beat zapdos and sinistcha 1v1 which this team can also struggle against. Just a tusk that does its thing.

Kingambit

:sv/kingambit:

Kingambit (F) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Low Kick

Gambit provides a lot for this team, checking dengo and specs pult (trades with wisp pults), priority vs offense, and a strong sweeper overall that benefits from cornerstone’s progress. Low Kick was chosen to hit opposing gambits that can come in on cornerstone for free once they’ve scouted for knock and that my cornerstone isn’t low kick. Since I am running webs, gambit can run max speed with ada + max attack to keep its power. Balloon was chosen as the item of choice to better check moon who can become threatening at +1 (nothing in this team outspeeds it after 1 dd after webs drop) and also standard dnite sets.

Dragonite

:sv/dragonite:

Dragonite (F) @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Scale Shot
- Fire Punch
- Encore

I wanted a sweeper that didn’t lose to the birds and also provided a way to punish corv defog. I chose this dnite set for this role and holy this dnite set is so good. It can become a good wincon late game after all the mons have been chipped and can really turn the tides of the game. With tera is where it breaks this mon, tera fire both defensively to turn its weaknesses into resists and offensively to hit corv better. This thing can beat molt and zap while also hitting the metal birds. Loaded Dice was ran since I have hazard removal in tusk and a way to pressure hazard leads with araq, so I was comfortable with this item choice. Encore is here to check gambit if it uses cornerstone as fodder for setup and corv and setup moves in general which is nice for this team. Also hits alo which can definitely give you headaches outside of using cornerstone to beat this which even then can get burnt.

Threats:

:sv/zapdos:
This guy is actually quite annoying since it can spread paras and force a tera. Try to kill it with cornerstone or lure with tusk. If you can, chain with pech, you can kill it easier.
:sv/darkrai:
Boots rai is a threat since it doesn’t get the drop from webs. Try to scout if its focus blast or ice beam, otherwise gambit or dnite can check it. You also have sturdy cornerstone which is nice if hazards aren’t up. If its the rare aoa boots, your forced to commit tera with dnite early
:sv/great-tusk:
Sometimes can be annoying because it checks a lot on this team and removes webs but you can power whip with cornerstone or trade with pech. If it gets the speed drop from webs, you can use pech to parting shot into dnite on the headlong to encore.
:sv/weavile:
Boots weavile like rai is a threat and same reasoning with rai in why its a big threat. Try to save tera and dnite or scout if its sd or low kick. If its low kick, your forced to go to the dnite route or if it is sd, try to preserve health on your gambit and you check it easily.

Conclusion
I was pretty happy when I built this and had a decent peak because this was the first team I ever built that could peak this high. Also I had a major skill issue so I was ass at making plays and building sometimes until I found out making HO teams were easy to make and play with. Shoutouts to OU chat who helped me test this so I didn’t tilt to the depths of low ladder. Wasn’t able to save a ss or replays because initially, I thought on not rmting this team but I decided to do it anyways. There might be some errors in this rmt since its my first time making a rmt (hopefully not). Hopefully you can learn on how to make a good HO team and thank you for reading my first ever RMT!:afrostar:
