- Ogerpon-W is a centralising offensive piece in the metagame, both offering redirection to multiple archetypes, whilst also threatening significant damage with its STAB coverage.
- Ivy Cudgel is a strong STAB option, which deals strong damage into the majority of the meta-game, and allows Ogerpon-W to hit common targets including Landorus, Diancie, Incineroar and Chi-Yu super-effectively.
- Horn Leech is a solid Grass-type STAB option, allowing Ogerpon-W to recuperate its health, which is useful in maintaining Ogerpon-W’s longevity. Wood Hammer is a more powerful Grass-type move, at the expense of recoil damage.
- Follow Me allows Ogerpon-W to support its teammates by redirecting single target attacks from opposing Pokemon, as well as status moves like Spore from Amoonguss, with Water Absorb allowing Ogerpon-W to heal from opposing Water-type attacks, in particular, Ivy Cudgel from opposing Ogerpon-W.
- Spiky Shield punishes a number of contact damaging attacks that may be directed into Ogerpon-W, breaking the Focus Sash of Pokemon like Chien Pao.
- Maximum Speed EVs allows Ogerpon to at least speedtie the crowded 110 Speed tier with opposing Ogerpon forms, and outspeed Ninetales-A and non-Choice Scarf Chi-Yu. The bulk investment ensures that Ogerpon-W is not OHKOd by Tornadus' Bleakwind Storm, and the given Attack investment offers a favourable roll to OHKO Bulky Landorus, and allows an Intimdatated and Terastallized Ogerpon-W to OHKO Incineroar after Stealth Rock.
- Terastallization grants Ogerpon-W a +1 boost to its Special Defense, as well as losing its weakness to Bleakwind Storm from Tornadus, Gunk Shot from Okidogi and Sludge Bomb from Landorus. This also allows it to take Fire-type attacks, in particular from Chi-Yu, and turns Assault Vest Kyurem's Freeze Dry from an OHKO to a favourable roll to not 2HKO.
- Ogerpon-W is a versatile offensive support option, useful on a number of team compositions. In particular, setup Pokemon including Calm Mind Raging Bolt and Nasty Plot Gholdengo appreciate Ogerpon-W’s Follow Me to redirect opposing attacks, facilitating opportunities to boost their stats. Ogerpon-W benefits from Tornadus’ access to Prankster Tailwind, as well as Bleakwind Storm which can super-effectively damage opposing Grass-types which Ogerpon-W struggles against. Alternatively, Roaring Moon is a solid partner that can offer fast Tailwind support and coverage for opposing Dragon-types. Ogerpon-W offers redirection to Chien-Pao who both bolsters Ogerpon-W's offensive output with Sword of Ruin, and also threaten opposing Grass- and Dragon-types who otherwise resist Ogerpon-W's offensive coverage.
- Grass-types like Rillaboom, Sinistcha and Amoonguss resist Ogerpon-W's STAB coverage, and deal respectable damage in return, especially to Terastallized Ogerpon. Ogerpon-W also loses its immunity to Rage Powder and Spore when Terastallized. Dragon-types, including Raging Bolt and Kyurem, also both resist Ogerpon-W's offensive coverage, and deal significant damage in return. Breaking Swipe from Roaring Moon and Gouging Fire bypasses Ogerpon-W's ability to redirect damage, and also lower Ogerpon-W's Attack. Iron Hands threatens significant damage to Ogerpon-W, particularly when Terastallized.
