Oh Christmas Tree! (feat. Mega Abomasnow)

Hi! I am Sweep from Pokemon Showdown, here to present my first XY Ubers RMT. I play BW Ubers, BW UU and XY Ubers a lot and find the latter to be the least fun of the three, so I wanted to build a fun (yet viable) team around Abomasnow for the XY Ubers ladder challenge. This team peaked at #8 on the ladder with a 36-7 record, which is a lot better than I expected considering the low opinion I had of Abomasnow going into making this team. I wound up using a different Abomasnow team with Ho-Oh/Kyogre/something else during my final three matches and went 1-2, knocking my ranking down to #12 or so. Regardless, though this team isn't amazing and a good record on the ladder isn't much to brag about, it's still a fun team that uses a lot of underrated Pokemon, including Abomasnow itself. Not sure if I'd go so far as to call Abomasnow-Gliscor-Arceus-Rock a core (Palkia and SpecsOgre rapes all three), but they do have excellent synergy with one another.

Because of the weather nerf, this isn't really a hail team, so I cannot rely on passive damage to wear down the enemy team. I am open to suggestions, feel free to make suggestions because I didn't spend as much time on this as I did for some of my other teams.

Team at a glance:

Abomasnow @ Abomasite
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 32 SDef / 248 HP / 228 SAtk
Quiet Nature

- Blizzard
- Grass Knot
- Toxic
- Ice Shard / Earthquake

The star of the show. Abomasnow was fairly cool when I tried it, as it could take some hits from stuff like Kyogre and some Arceus formes while hitting hard in return. The bad defensive typing gives some nasty weaknesses, including a 4x weakness to Fire moves, so this thing needs to be played safely. However, 132 Special Attack is nothing to sneeze at, especially when backed up by two powerful STAB moves. The EV spread allows Abomasnow to survive two Scarf Water Spouts from Kyogre (assuming SR isn't up) and kill it back with Grass Knot in one hit. Abomasnow is also my check to Calm Mind Arceus-Electric. Blizzard does between 36-43% to Specially Defensive Ferrothorn and cleanly 2HKO's Palkia lacking Assault Vest, so do not underestimate its power! Toxic cripples bulky support Pokemon that try to switch in, such as Arceus-Fairy and Ho-Oh, while Ice Shard hits Rayquaza pretty hard. Ice Shard + Blizzard also holds Deoxys-S to one layer, as their Fire Punch cannot OHKO Abomasnow. However, I am using Earthquake as of tonight to deal close to 50% damage to Aegislash, as well as nail other common switchins like Arceus-Steel. Abomasnow is so slow as it is, I saw no reason to use Modest over Quiet, so Earthquake will still hit hard.

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 248 Def / 248 HP / 12 Spd
Impish Nature

- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Taunt

Gliscor is still an excellent Pokemon in Generation 6, despite some competition as a Stallbreaker from mons such as Mega Gengar and Yveltal. None of the other Stallbreakers can safely switch in on Groudon, however. Taunt is nice to stop slow hazards setters and Defog users, and also stops recovery from Pokemon such as Rest Ferrothorn. Earthquake is necessary to hit annoying Steel types such as Aegislash, while Toxic hits Groudon, Arceus formes, common switchins…pretty much anything that isn't a Steel or Poison type, both of which are hit super effectively by Earthquake. I included Stealth Rock as Gliscor sets it up fairly easily; however, I really really REALLY want Substitute or Protect on this set and can't get it to fit. Perhaps I can move Stealth Rock over to Jirachi, even though I find that Gliscor has an easier time setting it up in general, because Protect or Sub would help with Gliscor's longetivity. The EV spread isn't fancy; I run almost no speed creep because I want to take hits from Groudon, Swords Dance Arceus Normal / Ground and Zekrom as well as possible. Overall, Gliscor's solid synergy with Abomasnow and its Ground and status immunity give it a place on its team. It has probably been my most productive team member.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 SDef / 248 HP / 12 Spd
Careful Nature

- Iron Head
- Wish
- Protect
- Thunder Wave

My check to MegaMewtwo Y and all Xerneas. I needed a back-up check to scarf dragon attack spam as Xerneas is hardly enough to stop Dragons by itself. Jirachi is capable of surviving 2 Palkia Fire Blasts in a row, making it a VERY loose switchin to that thing. Jirachi abhors its new Ghost-and-Dark weaknesses, but enjoys blind Power Herb Xerneas and Iron head Genesect spam on the ladder. It deals fairly well with all-out attacking Xerneas too, unless they have Night Slash. Iron Head is obligatory STAB and hits Fairies, while Thunder Wave is used over Toxic to ensure that Xerneas and MM2Y are completely crippled. Note that I would probably run Toxic to hit Ground types if Xerneas didn't exist! Wish / Protect gives it recovery, and Jirachi can pass wishes to Gliscor if something like Groudon comes in on it. Much like Gliscor, I run little speed creep because I need as much Special Defense investment as possible and there are not many Pokemon running in the 240ish range anyway. Jirachi's useful resistances and ability to check two very common threats give it a spot on this team. I may use Stealth Rock>Protect on Jirachi going forward but am open to suggestions here.

Arceus-Rock @ Stone Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 Spd / 8 SAtk / 248 HP
Timid Nature

- Will-O-Wisp
- Judgment
- Recover
- Defog

This is an absolute necessity on this team to deal with Ho-Oh and Yveltal. Arceus-Rock also provides Defog support for teams with Sticky Web, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes, though defogging is often not worth it each side has only SR. Sadly, Rock Arceus often loses to Extremekiller Arceus as Lum Berry is everywhere, despite it stripping Ekiller of its ability to secure OHKO's at +2. It can still beat it in a 1-1 situation though. This is standard support Arceus and all of the moves are self-explanatory. I know Hack He Must and a lot of other good players don't like this Pokemon very much, but it's hard to build a team around Abomasnow that isn't weak to Ho-Oh without it.

Kyurem-White @ Choice Specs
Ability: Turboblaze
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Timid Nature

- Fusion Flare
- Blizzard
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power

This thing is an absolute monster, especially when Hail is still up. Specs Kyurem and Xerneas share many common switchins, so it's easy to wear down Steels with powerful Blizzards (or if I predict right, Fusion Flare) to allow Xerneas to sweep. Kyurem also serves as a wallbreaker that annihilates defoggers…obviously :p. I use a Timid nature over Modest to ensure that I outrun all Specs Kyogre and do no worse than speed tie other base 95's, such as Rayquaza and opposing Kyurem (unless they wield a Choice Scarf). Draco Meteor can kill Arceus formes after Stealth Rock, Blizzard in Hail is ridiculous, and Earth Power makes Heatran rather sad. Kyurem's defensive typing may be worse than Hitler and Stalin combined, but the back-up water resistance for Kyogre is nice for when Abomasnow inevitably dies. This is my favorite Pokemon on this team. I am considering running a bulkier set to survive a +2 Extremespeed from Silk Scarf Arceus, but that would make the risky assumption that my opponent cannot keep Stealth Rock up.

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 64 Spd / 252 SAtk / 192 HP
Modest Nature

- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Psyshock

To be clear, Power Herb Xerneas is overhyped and should not blindly be slapped onto a team. With that said, it's still a nice sweeper and is my only answer to Palkia and Mega Mewtwo X (if Lustrous Orb Palkia in the rain, GG me but I rarely see Lustrous thank GOD). This team does a nice job of luring and wearing down checks like Aegislash and Ferrothorn, allowing for Xerneas to clean. I run significant bulk to give Xerneas an easier time to set up, as well as take a +1 Poison Jab from MM2X if need be and kill it back with Moonblast. Psyshock is for Amoonguss and Mega Gengar while Thunder nails Lugia and Ho-Oh. Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor completely counters this set at full health, so they need to be significantly worn down before attempting a Geomancy. The EV spread allows Xerneas to outrun Scarf Garchomp and below after boosting while retaining as much bulk as possible to actually check stuff / support the team. I could change this to a scarf Xerneas to outrun MM2X and Yveltal, but they usually Taunt me instead of attacking to prevent a boost, allowing me to kill them off with Moonblast. So in summary: Power Herb Xerneas is overrated, but can still put in work if used right.

Threats:

Mega Blaziken-It cannot set up a Swords Dance safely on anything. However, I have no switchins so every time it comes in to revenge something, I need to let it do so unless I want my entire team swept. If it has Substitute and gets in on Jirachi after it, I probably lose.

Mega Gengar-Again, it cannot switch in safely at all and cannot secure OHKO's on stuff like Jirachi. However, when my team is weakened, this outruns and destroys everything if it has Focus Blast. Prediction is needed to beat this.

Swords Dance Arceus-Normal-Not nearly as threatening as the above two mons, but max speed Jolly and Lum Berry variants are both frustrating to deal with. Can set up easily on Jirachi, but not anything else.

Life Orb Deoxys-A-sob

Darkrai-Sleeps something, then loses to Kyurem-W. Xerneas beats up ladder Darkrai after it sleeps something since ladderers never use a Life Orb set with Sludge Bomb or Taunt. Against a good player though, Darkrai will be troublesome

Lustrous Orb Palkia in Rain-Breaks everything that dares switch in, though it cannot OHKO my "checks." I seem to be in the minority but I GREATLY prefer Lustrous Orb's wallbreaking power to Assault Vest or Haban…Lustrous Orb Palkia isn't quite as dangerous as it used to be but it's still really fucking good.

Shout-outs:

Diatom-Thanks. Thanks for everything.

Donkey-Yeah Earthquake on Aboma was a good call, helps it checks Electric Arceus too.

Imma Fly-Underrated as fuck player. You should thank me for the improvements I made to your team though.

Trickroom-Couldn't fit Stunfisk here, but I still want to try it and maybe write an Ubers analysis for it this gen :D.

Hack He Must-hi how are u

Champion Lance-For inventing support Arceus.

Melee Mewtwo-Always there when I need to test out a BW team, especially when I am ripping off Syrim.

Edgar-:]

Everyone in #Penis and/or #Ubers. Shrang please make a RMT ASAP.

Zebraiken, Leftiez, HotnCold, Treecko, Dunk, Fiction, Raichy, Biosci, TennisAce, Raseri, and other Tigers-we're gonna fucking own SPL this year.

Don't really know what to suggest, but maybe Scarf Kyurem-W can be used over Specs? Helps to threaten Mega Gengar/ non-scarf Palkia and it might also function as a last minute sweeper if conditions are correct (outspeeding the resurgent scarf Zekroms).

@Weak improvements ugh

I can try that, it gives me a fast and powerful scarfer though it cannot wear down Xerneas's checks as well as it can with Specs. With that said, Abomasnow can help with that. Thanks for the rate <3

You can try Leech Seed>Toxic on Abo, it lack leftovers and would appreciate the recovery.

With Phy defensive Ho-oh>Kyurem, you cover all the threat you listed bar lus Palkia in rain. However, doing so will make you vulnerable to Kyogre. So I would recommend Ferrothorn>Jirachi if you make this change. Although Feerothorn can't check Xerneas as well as Jirachi, Ho-oh can back it up.

The sets:
Ho-Oh@leftovers
-Sacred Fire
-BB
-Roost
-Whirlwind

Ferrothorn@Leftovers
-Leech Seed
-Power Whip
-Knock Off
-Protect/Gyro Ball

Excellent team sweep~
You are one of the best uber players no doubt it a good team.
I've laddered with the team, I'm still flawless with it.
