Draft Okidogi

Status
Not open for further replies.
[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 7-9 points

**Overview**: Okidogi is a solid budget option that primarily fulfils an offensive role with its high Attack and decent bulk, especially on the physical side. With access to powerful moves such as Gunk Shot and Close Combat, only a few Pokemon can switch in safely against it. Toxic Chain lets Okidogi spread status to foes that can be poisoned, and Guard Dog prevents Pokemon with Intimidate from checking it reliably. However, it suffers from having a poor Speed tier, requiring careful positioning, and having competition from other mid-tier Fighting-types that offer higher Speed and pivoting, leaving it regularly undrafted.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Wallbreaker**: Okidogi can utilize Choice Band to deal a devastating amount of damage to threats in matches where it may not find the opportunity to set up. Its low Speed, however, makes it vulnerable to revenge killers, forcing it to often switch out after committing to a move.

**Speed Control**: Okidogi can don a Choice Scarf to threaten faster offensive threats. This set works especially well combined with Toxic Chain to cripple opposing defensive pieces and allow its partners to clean up late-game.

**Setup Sweeper**: Okidogi can utilize Bulk Up to turn into a deadly late-game cleaner. This set can be run with Drain Punch to increase longevity.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Close Combat, Drain Punch, Body Press, Gunk Shot, Poison Jab

**Setup Moves**: Bulk Up

**Utility Moves**: Taunt, Substitute, Brick Break, Roar

**Coverage**: Knock Off, Psychic Fangs, High Horsepower, Stomping Tantrum, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch

Niche Moves
========
**Substitute**: Substitute is useful on Bulk Up sets where Okidogi can utilize its STAB attacks most effectively against opposing teams and become a more powerful late-game cleaner.

**Toxic**: Although Toxic Chain is more frequently used to poison foes, Okidogi can use Toxic to guarantee intoxicating defensive walls and pivots to gain progress in a game and help its offensive teammates wallbreak.

**Counter**: By investing in bulk, Okidogi can survive powerful moves inflicted on it and KO an opposing threat with Counter. This is very prediction reliant, however, as a single turn could be wasted with the foe setting up, allowing them to get ahead in the game.

Common Items
========
**Choice Band**: Choice Band maximizes Okidogi's Attack output to punch holes on the opposing team.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf increases Okidogi's Speed to get the jump on faster threats and revenge kill them.

**Leftovers**: Leftovers give Okidogi passive recovery for Bulk Up sets, turning it into a potent late-game sweeper if not dealt with quickly.

**Resistance Berry**: Resistance Berries allow Okidogi to survive strong super effective hits and fire back with one of its powerful STAB attacks or remove an important item with Knock Off.

Niche Items
========
**Mental Herb**: Mental Herb can be useful to prevent Okidogi from being interrupted while setting up with Bulk Up, gaining a crucial boost.

**Assault Vest**: Assault Vest can be used alongside Okidogi's decent coverage to increase its less impressive Special Defense to stay around longer in a match.

**Rocky Helmet**: Donning a Rocky Helmet allows Okidogi to leverage its physical bulk and punish common pivoting moves such as U-turn and Flip Turn. It is also able to take on a flurry of priority moves such as Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Okidogi can run Heavy-Duty Boots to get around Spikes and enter the field more frequently throughout a match.

Tera
========
Okidogi is a suitable low-tier Tera Captain option to consider for your draft. Tera Dark is the most common, since it invalidates Okidogi's major to Psychic, gives Knock Off a damage boost, and threatens opposing Ghost-types. Tera Poison or Fighting are particularly useful to boost Okidogi's existing STAB moves further, and Tera Flying removes its Ground weakness to gain a turn by either setting up or punching holes on a would-be check.

Draft Strategy
========
Okidogi should generally be drafted to provide offensive pressure alongside faster, frailer partners such as Greninja and Meowscarada. Its ability to threaten opponents with Toxic Chain should not go unnoticed, forcing defensive preparations that could limit damage output from the opposing team.

**Entry Hazard Support**: Okidogi greatly appreciates Spikes and Stealth Rock to punish would-be checks that fall victim to its Toxic Chain ability. Choice Band sets with this support can KO opposing threats and cripple defensive pieces to the point that they are no longer able to switch in reliably. Sticky Web also provides a massive opportunity for it to use Bulk Up more reliably against faster threats. Okidogi appreciates having Ting-Lu as a partner to deal with opposing Ghost- and Poison-types that otherwise wall it, but other entry hazard setters like Iron Treads and Hisuian Samurott are effective.

**Fast Pivots**: Okidogi can use its impressive physical bulk to tank hits, allowing fast pivots like Greninja and Meowscarada to safely pivot to it. This can provide great opportunities for it to punch holes in opposing threats and allow revenge killers to finish off late-game.

**Special Wallbreakers**: Okidogi can lure in physically defensive threats to allow special wallbreakers such as Chi-Yu, Latios, and Darkrai to cripple them throughout the course of the game. These teammates also appreciate foes taking damage over time from Okidogi's Toxic Chain.

Checks and Counters
========
**Poison- and Ghost-types**: Okidogi's STAB combination is resisted by both Poison- and Ghost-types, with Poison-types also being immune to Toxic Chain. While Okidogi has coverage to handle most of its checks, Pokemon such as Gholdengo can reliably switch in and prey on its lower Special Defense, forcing it out.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Against faster threats such as Great Tusk, Iron Boulder, and Tornadus-T, Okidogi is heavily limited in its role as a physically offensive wallbreaker, often having to rely on Choice Scarf to make some sort of progress, and it can easily be revenged killed by the aforementioned foes.

**Physically Defensive Pokemon**: Okidogi struggles to make progress against physically bulky Pokemon, which may also use Rocky Helmet to slowly whittle it down. This is especially dangerous, as almost all of Okidogi's moves make contact. Examples of these checks include Alomomola and Skarmory.

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 6-7 points 7-9 points

**Overview**: 2-4 sentences highlighting the key elements of the Pokemon. What does it usually do, why do you usually draft it, etc. Should be very high level but give the picture of what it does. Okidogi is a solid budget option that primarily fulfils an offensive role in your draft with high physical attack and decent bulk, especially on the physical side. With access to powerful moves such as Gunk Shot and Close Combat, only a few Pokémon can switch in safely against it. Furthermore, Toxic Chain and Guard Dog are great abilities, as the former may spread poison to whittle down threats over the course of the game, whereas the latter will make opponents think twice before switching in Pokémon with the ability Intimidate, gaining a +1 boost to its attack instead, as well as make Bulk Up sets more reliable. reads too much like dex info, i think i can figure out what you're going for here, but rephrase this point to not literally explain what the abilities do. also i think the usefulness of guard dog is somewhat overstated here, if anything it can be a different sentence/addendum just mentioning that having guard dog means things with initmidate cannot check it. Okidogi however suffers from having an awkward poor speed tier, requiring careful positioning, and competition from the more desirable Sneasler, leaving Okidogi regularly going undrafted. sneasler isn't necessarily the main competition for okidogi. there are a surplus of mid tier fighting types, and many of them offer traits okidogi doesn't have such as u-turn and higher speed. this is the competition that frequently leaves okidogi undrafted that you need to talk about.

**Roar**: With Okidogi's bulk, Roar can be a good defensive tool to force out opposing setup threats, taking a strong move if necessary. think this is pretty self explanatory

could consider counter and/or upper hand but i'll leave that to your judgment/qc2

Tera
========
Okidogi is a suitable low tier Tera Captain option to consider for your draft. Tera Dark is the most common to invalidate it's 4x weakness to Psychic, give Okidogi STAB on Knock Off and threaten opposing Ghost- types. A Tera type of either Poison or Fighting is particularly useful to boost Okidogi's existing STABs further, and Tera Flying removes its Ground weakness to gain a turn either setting up or punch holes on a would be check to Okidogi.

**Poison- and Ghost- types**: Okidogi's Poison- and Fighting- STAB combination is resisted by both of these types, with Poison- types also being immune to Toxic Chain. Pokémon such as Gholdengo can reliably switch in and force Okidogi out, despite its decent coverage. could potentially rephrase slightly to place more emphasis on the fact that okidogi has enough coverage to hit most of its checks

**Faster Offensive Pokémon**: Against faster threats such as Great Tusk, Iron Boulder and Tornadus-Therian, Okidogi is heavily limited in its role as a physically offensive wallbreaker, often having to rely on Choice Scarf to make some sort of progress, and can easily be revenged killed by the examples mentioned and many others.

Draft Strategy
========
Okidogi should generally be drafted to provide offensive pressure alongside faster, frailer partners such as Weavile and Ogerpon- forms. (Then why aren't these mentioned as common teammates below? If you add a section for that, lmk and I'll check over it) Its ability to threaten opponents with Toxic Chain should not go unnoticed, forcing defensive preparations which that could limit damage output from the opposing team.

This can provide great opportunity opportunities for Okidogi to punch holes in opposing threats (rc) and allow revenge killers to finish off late-game. (ah) (This said nothing about fast pivots other than that okidogi can take hits from opposing ones, so I reworded)

**Special Wallbreakers**: Okidogi can lure in physically defensive threats to allow special wallbreakers such as Chi-Yu, Latios, (ac) and Darkrai to cripple them throughout the course of the game. These teammates also appreciate foes taking damage over time from poison should Okidogi's Toxic Chain activate against would be checks.

**Mental Herb**: Mental Herb can be useful to prevent Okidogi from being interrupted while setting up with Bulk Up, gaining a crucial boost which can turn a 2HKO into an OHKO.

**Assault Vest**: Assault Vest can be used alongside Okidogi's decent coverage to increase its less impressive Special Defense to stay around longer in a match.

**Rocky Helmet**: Donning a Rocky Helmet allows Okidogi to leverage its physical bulk and punish common pivoting moves such as U-Turn U-turn and Flip Turn. It is also able to take on a flurry of priority moves such as Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch to deal more damage to the user rather than Okidogi.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Okidogi can run Heavy-Duty Boots to get around Spikes and spread status with Toxic Chain more reliably enter the field more frequently throughout a match. (minor qc change - this feels more relevant to mention with boots)

Tera
========
Okidogi is a suitable low-tier (ah) Tera Captain option to consider for your draft. Tera Dark is the most common, (ac) to invalidate it's 4x since it invalidates Okidogi's major weakness to Psychic, give Okidogi STAB on Knock Off gives Knock Off a damage boost, (ac) and threatens opposing Ghost-types. (remove space before types) A Tera type of either Poison or and Fighting is are particularly useful to boost Okidogi's existing STABs STAB moves further, and Tera Flying removes its Ground weakness to gain a turn by either setting up or punching holes on a would-be (ah) check to Okidogi.

Draft Strategy
========

**Entry Hazard Support**: Okidogi greatly appreciates Spikes and Stealth Rock to punish would-be (ac) checks that may fall victim to its Toxic Chain ability. Choice Band sets with this support can KO an opposing threats or and cripple defensive pieces to the point that they are no longer able to switch in reliably. Sticky Web also provides a massive opportunity for Okidogi it to use Bulk Up more reliably against faster threats. Okidogi appreciates having Ting-Lu as a partner to deal with opposing Ghost- and Poison-types (remove space before types) that otherwise wall it, but other entry hazard setters like Iron Treads and Hisuian Samurott are effective.

**Fast Pivots**: Okidogi can use its impressive physical bulk to tank a hit from would-be targets such as Greninja or Meowscarada hits, allowing fast pivots like Greninja and Meowscarada to safely pivot to it.

Checks and Counters
========
**Poison- and Ghost-types (remove space before types)**: Okidogi's Poison- and Fighting- STAB combination is resisted by both of these types Poison- and Ghost-types, with Poison-types (remove space before types) also being immune to Toxic Chain. Whilst While Okidogi has coverage to handle most of its checks, Pokémon Pokemon such as Gholdengo can reliably switch in and prey on its lower Special Defense, forcing Okidogi it out.

**Faster Offensive Pokémon Pokemon**: (remove extra space)Against faster threats such as Great Tusk, Iron Boulder, (ac) and Tornadus-Therian, Okidogi is heavily limited in its role as a physically offensive wallbreaker, often having to rely on Choice Scarf to make some sort of progress, and it can easily be revenged killed by the examples mentioned and many others aforementioned foes.

**Physically Defensive Pokémon Pokemon**: Okidogi struggles to make progress against physically bulky Pokémon Pokemon, who which may also use the Rocky Helmet item to slowly whittle Okidogi it down. This is especially dangerous, (ac) as almost all of Okidogi's moves make contact. Examples of these checks include Alomomola and Skarmory.

Implemented grammar checks, on the first paragraph of draft strategy, decided to mention greninja and meowscarada as they were already mentioned in the section below.

Few more minor changes & it should be good to go :) GP Team done
[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 7-9 points

**Overview**: Okidogi is a solid budget option that primarily fulfils an offensive role with its high physical attack Attack and decent bulk, especially on the physical side. With access to powerful moves such as Gunk Shot and Close Combat, only a few Pokemon can switch in safely against it. Toxic Chain lets Okidogi spread status to foes that can be poisoned, and Guard Dog prevents Pokemon with Intimidate from checking it reliably. However, Okidogi it suffers from having a poor Speed tier, requiring careful positioning, and having competition from other mid-tier Fighting-types that offer higher Speed and pivoting, leaving it regularly undrafted.

Common Roles
========

========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Close Combat, Drain Punch, Body Press, Gunk Shot, Poison Jab

**Setup Moves**: Bulk Up

**Utility Moves**: Taunt, Substitute, Brick Break, Roar

**Coverage**: Knock Off, Psychic Fangs, High Horsepower, Stomping Tantrum, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch

Niche Moves
========

========
**Choice Band**: Choice Band maximises maximizes Okidogi's Attack output to punch holes on the opposing team.

**Resistance Berry**: (add colon) Resistance Berries allow Okidogi to survive strong super effective hits and fire back with one of its powerful STAB attacks or remove an important item with Knock Off.

Niche Items
