Hello, everyone! If you haven't seen my RU post please check it out, but for now I want to show you all a UU team I made a few months ago on PO, and I figured I would bring it back and ladder with it. I feel like there could be a few minor tweaks, but I believe this team is headed in the right direction!
Without further adieu, let's meet the players!
Bisharp (Gillet) @ Leftovers
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 HP/252+ Atk/4 Speed (Adamant Nature)
Moveset: Substitute/Swords Dance/Sucker Punch/Iron Head
Bisharp for me provides many key resistances, which means he can switch in on many different pokemon in the tier and be able to force the switch and set up a substitute. This also allows Bisharp to nab a good boost in a pinch, then he can retaliate with a STAB move of choice. That said, Suicune still checks this pokemon well, but outside of that there isn't much appreciating a +2 Sucker Punch or Iron Head from this guy.
Flygon (Waddley) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252+ Atk/4 SpDef/4 Speed (Adamant Nature)
Moveset: Outrage/U-Turn/Fire Punch/Earthquake
What is a better pokemon in UU to keep up momentum then Flygon right? Not only does the Ground/Dragon Typing provide key synergy with the rest of my team in terms of typing, but also can provide as a useful scout, which is Flygon's primary job in the tier. While an Adamant Flygon doesn't hit quite as hard with the Scarf as with the Band, the extra speed is necessary as the only pokemon other than Flygon in the Base 100 speed tier is Victini. That said, Flygon and Victini work great at countering each other's checks fairly well, and therefore dispatching the likes of Suicune, Bronzong, Claydol and other defensive pokemon.
Suicune (Suave) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/252+ Def/4 SpDef (Bold Nature)
Moveset: Rest/Sleep Talk/Scald/Calm Mind
Standard CroCune, while more easily checked, is still extremely viable in today's metagame. This pokemon has taken many a physical hit without trouble and rest it off easily. That said, there are only a couple of pokemon that truly scare Suicune, such as the rogue Sceptile, Milotic (Phazing), Roserade, Zapdos and Yanmega to an extent. Zapdos is becoming more prominent, so it is hard to use Suicune while Zapdos or Roserade is active, but one those are dispatched, it is smooth sailing for CroCune.
Uxie (French Toast) @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/4 SpAtk/252+ SpDef (Calm Nature)
Moveset: Light Screen/Reflect/Stealth Rock/Giga Drain (or Psychic)
While in the RU tier, Uxie still shines where Azelf could only dream of, and that is support. Uxie has average speed, so it still can outspeed other bulky pokemon and set up the appropriate screen or rocks. I questioned whether or not Stealth Rock was a good option on a Screener set, but I figured it would be more benficial to get rocks up with Uxie, as hazard support greatly helps Bisharp, Flygon and Victini.
Hitmontop (Cyclone) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP/252+ Def/4 Spdef (Impish Nature)
Moveset: Toxic/Close Combat/Stone Edge/Rapid Spin
Ah, Hitmontop, the great "Outclassed" one. I'm right with some and say that Hitmontop sometimes lets me down, but the main purpose of Hitmontop is to be a bulky spinner. With intimidate intact, he isn't taking much from Heracross or other would-be physical threats. Other than that, though, it doesn’t serve any outside purpose. Its sole purpose is to be a bulky spinner, and that’s what it’s good at.
Victini (V-v-Vodybag) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 4 Atk/252 SpAtk/252+ Speed (Naïve Nature)
Moveset: V-Create/Fire Blast/Focus Blast/Grass Knot
While a lesser used set on Victini, it is great as a surprise factor and rounds out synergy with the rest of the team fairly nicely. While I don’t complete the renowned Grass-Water-Fire core I use on most of my teams, Victini still rounds out coverage with Grass Knot, a key move in easing the removal of Suicune, which would otherwise wall my team almost completely. It is also very useful against Slowbro and Milotic. Focus Blast hits Umbreon harder than most special attacks, so it won’t want to switch in multiple times (but Victini needs to watch Foul Play/Payback). Even with only 4 Atk EVs, V-Create still hits like a truck, especially on specially defensive pokemon, such as Registeel, Zapdos and the occasional Cryogonal. One more factor with expert belt Victini is that is can also bluff the choice specs/band set until it’s too late.
That’s my team, and I hope you all can give me team suggestions and possibly even use this team for laddering purposes! Good luck to all, and happy battling!
