On That Original SWAG (OU RMT)

Hi, first of all thank you for visiting my thread. Whether or not your going to give me criticism it's whatever. I sought out to make an original team. None of that messing around with weather nonsense, weather honestly pisses me off. So I tried to make a team that's sort of anti weather, At the same time I tried to keep it original. And i'm kinda glad how I kept it 4th GEN. :P anyways here it is:

Team At A Glance.

gengar-frlg.png

Gengar @ Focus Sash
Timid (+Speed, -Attack)
252 Sp. Attack/252 Speed

- Destiny Bond
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast

Gengar is a very hard pokemon to make a moveset for due to his DIVERSE movepool. He is my lead 85% of the time. The Focus Sash is often not worth it, but when it it works, Gengar manages to take out at least one pokemon due to Destiny Bond. Shadow Ball for STAB, Thunderbolt for Starmie's/Vaporeon's and general coverage. Focus Blast is for the very common Tyranitar leads.

jellicent.jpg

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Calm (+ Sp. Defense, -Attack)
248 HP/252 Sp. Defense/8 Defense

- Recover
- Energy Ball
- Scald
- Toxic

I Replaced Vaporeon with Jellicent, I noticed that I lacked a Speacil Defensive wall and Jellicent was the answer. When going against Rain teams Vaporeon was set up bait for Toxicroak.. Jellicent solved that issue. Was this a good replacement?

images

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Impish (+Defense, -Sp. Attack)
244 HP/176 Defense/88 Speed

- Facade/Ice Fang
- Protect
- Earthquake/Ice Fang
- Swords Dance

Gliscor is my answer to wall the hell out of Excadrill. I'm debating removing Earthquake for Ice Fang to deal with dragons. I'm also debating removing Facade as well. But a 140 base-power move due to Toxic isn't bad at all. Swords Dance so Gliscor can have some attacking presence. Protect is to help with the Toxic heal.

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Modest (+ Sp. Attack,-Attack)
152 HP/180 Sp. Attack/176 Speed

- Hidden Power (Fire)
- Thunderbolt
- Substitute
- Charge Beam

Magnezone is my answer for Jirachi/Ferrothorn/Steel Pokemon. His ability makes him such a useful thing for any team. His ability is basically the only reason he is on the team. And the team was basically built around him. Hidden Power (Fire) for the super-effectiveness on the Steels, Thunderbolt for STAB, Magnet Rise to remove his super-effectiveness to ground. Now for the last slot there's Explosion or Sunny Day. I was only considering Sunny Day because of the fact that it would make Hidden Power (Fire) x1.5 stronger. so make it a 105 base power move instead of 70. Which enables me to down Jirachi's/Ferrothorns I trapped easier. As stated thanks to raters 176 Speed EV's needed to outspeed Skarmory.

scizor.jpg

Scizor @ Choice Band
Adamant (+Attack, -Sp. Attack)
200 HP/252 Attack/56 Sp. Defense

- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit
- U-Turn

Your (sort of) run off the mill Scizor set. Bullet Punch for the priority and the Technician boost, Superpower to deal with Blissey's, Pursuit to trap things that might be super effective to it. U-Turn for a free switch in. I gave it 56 Sp. Defense EV's to help it live the already 1/2 Dragon attacks (mostly Draco Meteor).

heatran.png

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Timid (+Speed,-Attack)
252 Speed/252 Sp. Attack/4 Defense

- Fire Blast/Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power (Grass)

Scarf on Heatran puts him at 417 Speed which is faster then anything that isn't scarfed itself, Making it a nice revenge-killer. I've been contemplating Flamethrower over Fire Blast because right when I NEED Fire Blast to hit it DOESN'T and usual costs me the game. Earth Power for coverage, Dragon Pulse is an answer for Latitwins, Salamance, Dragonite etc. Hidden Power Grass for Starmie's/Politoeds that think they can get a free switch in on me.

Once again, I'd like to thank whoever took the time to read this and anyone who's giving me any critiques. I've managed to get about a 70% Win percentage when I was testing this team out.

*TEST RESULTS*:

- This team has been pretty successful except for Jellicent.. Jellicent is an extreme pain in my bottom.

I reccomend:
Gengar:
Change the set to Icy Wind/Focus Blast/Shadow Ball/Counter
Nobody expects this set from Gengar and Icy Wind fucks up loads of stuff, letting you outspeed basically everything, and helping beat Ninjask users (although Counter usually does that).

Vaporeon and Gliscor are fine, although maybe a Sub/CM Suicune would do better than Vaporeon.

On Magnezone, change the set to:
Thunder Wave/Substitute/Thunderbolt/Hidden Power [Ice]/[Ground]/[Fire].
Thunder Wave helps the team a lot more than your current set, and lets stuff like Scizor U-Turn with ease.

Scizor: Change Pursuit to Night Slash. Pursuit doesn't really hit anything anymore besides Gengar, as all the other ghost types will be switching IN to Scizor, not out. (eg. Chandelure and Jellicent). Night Slash also has a good crit rate which is nice.

On Heatran, I'd change it to something faster that can actually revenge kill threats, such as Jirachi or Ditto. If you want to keep Heatran, then use the current set but change it to Choice Specs or Shuca. I suggest Shuca instead of Air Balloon is it helps feign scarf and lets you get a suprise kill on things like DDMence that switch in to flamethrower.

the point of the magnezone set is to trap in ferrothorns/jirachis.. with magnet rise it takes out my ground effectiveness

looks like a pretty solid team actually. The only real problem i see is if you got up against a thundurus and it gets a NP up, since mag seems to be the only thing you got to take a thunderbolt (besides gliscor but im expecting it to have HP ice). In rain it will be a real pain. Also quag may be a annoyance to your team, being that your only pokemon who has a shot at KOing it easy is tran, but you do have vaporeon to toxic stall, but it may have toxic to so you never know.

But in the end great team.

Solid team here, just a few minor suggestions:

I'm with OmgWtfBoom on the Magnezone set: the steels you listed specifically don't generally use Ground type attacks to begin with, and Sub lets Magnezone attempt a sweep instead of having a very specific role of only trapping steels.

On Gengar, a SubSplit set is usually my go-to for him, giving him the longevity Gengar usually lacks. But, your set is fine how it is if you like it.

Agreed on Night Slash for Scizor.

I like the Scarfed Heatran for this team, as it pairs well with the two steel-types that will undoubtedly draw in a lot of fire attacks.

CaptainKnots, I've been considering that on the Magnezone but, I set up the Magnet Rise on the Steel types so that once the steel dies i'll only be weak to fire meaning things like gliscors wouldn't be able to get the Earthquake off on me. Like what OmgWtfBoom said, I need the thunderbolt to have at least two pokemon that can outspeed politoeds and such and deal a great amount of damage with the thunderbolt. I mean the Technician boost on Scizor basically makes up for the 40 base power of Pursuit I think. And thank you, the Heatran's point on the team is to take the fire attacks and be a revenge killer (:

Your magnezone set is off.

Use this:
-thunderbolt
-hidden power fire
-charge beam
-substitute

This will allow you to trap ferrothorn, and get a crud load of charge beam boosts on it. Substitute allows you to protect yourself from leech seed and thunderwave, and when you finally kill of magnezone, you have a substitute up and can kill whatever pokemon they send in, effectively killing 2 pokemon.

The evs are also off, you need to outspeed skarmory. So 176 speed evs are needed for that. There is too much defense here, seeing as you only need enough to survive a ferrothorn's power whip, 152 HP / 180 SpA / 176 Spd is suggested.

Im just saying one person who recommended Night Slash over Pursuit is probably one of the lowest people on the ladder right now. Pursuit is WAY better because of the amount of Latios/Latias running around plus coming off 130 base attack and a 50% technician boost its just too much to give up. And Magnet rise should not be used, the set someone recommended with HP fire/Substitute/Charge beam/Thunderbolt is far more efficient and can often lead to sometimes evident sweeps.

You have a very large weakness to Rotom-w. While you may be able to play around Choice variants, Leftovers variants with Will O Wisp will prove very difficult, effectively walling Scizor while having STAB Hydro Pump for Heatran/Magnezone/Gliscor and Thunderbolt for Jellicent. It seems Gengar is played recklessly (henst the Focus Sash and Destiny Bond) so it will not be around long enough to effectively help against Rotom-w (not that it is a particularly big help anyway). One suggestion would be to run Ferrothorn, probably over Scizor. This way you will not lose out on the many resistances that Steel offers, and you will be able to effectively wall most variants of Rotom-w and set up Spikes to support your whole team.

Adding Ferrothorn will also complete the FWG core that works so effectively in this metagame, and with Magnezone removing Forretress/Skarmory/opposing Ferrothorn you will have little to worry about, and Jellicent can effectively spinblock Tentacruel and Starmie for the most part.

Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Protect
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip

Through Leech Seed and Protect you can easily prolong longevity, and sap HP from stat uppers and attempt to wall them (see DD Haxorus).

My only other suggestion is to replace Gengar with something that could possibly be more frightening late game like Latios. With Magnezone support to remove Steels and Spikes support from Ferrothorn, Latios has a very limited number of counters, and with Choice Specs and access to Trick they are limited even further

Hmm.. If I were to switch Gengar with Latios, who would be my starter? Gengar effectively kills at least 2 pokemon. I will admit I have a Rotom weakness. But most people that run Rotom these days have the choiced variants. My team has a big weakness to Jellicent and Rotom-W, which I cannot solve. Without Scizor, opposing Gengars run over my team. When I see a jellicent in the other team I start with other pokes and save Gengar for Jellicent. Also without Scizor I don't have nothing to protect me from opposite Latitwins.

You do not need leads in 5th generation really, unless you're running a pokemon like Deoxys-S. Just lead with something that can counter what you think they will lead with. Team Preview really kills the whole "lead" aspect.

Anyway, I definitely agree on Latios over Gengar, as it is definitely a much better sweeper. I also agree on the addition of Ferrothorn, as it will support your team greatly, and will give you an answer to Rotom-W.

Run Flash Cannon on the last slot for Magnezone, as Sunny Day does not benefit your team too much, and the power drop in Explosion really makes worthless unless you have STAB on it, which is a luxury that belongs to only Smeargle and Lickilicky. Flash Cannon will let you get stronger hits off on pokemon like Gliscor, which is walled if you have a Magnet Rise set up.

Energy Ball Jellicent is a bit of a gimmick, run the standard Stallbreaker set instead.

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Calm (+ Sp. Defense, -Attack)
248 HP/216 Sp. Defense/44 Speed
Ability: Water Absorb
- Recover
- Shadow Ball
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp

This Jellicent destroys stall teams, and beats water types just as well as your other set did. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical pokemon that would otherwise destroy Jellicent, namely Tyranitar. Shadow Ball hits Reuniclus and water types harder, especially Starmie. Water Absorb is chosen over Cursed Body because it will make taking water attacks much easier.

Scarf Heatran can come into Shadow Ball and there isn't _much_ Gengar can come into on your team. Also between Ferrothorn and Heatran you shouldn't have much trouble with Lati@s

I am suggesting Ferrothorn > Scizor to help against Rotom-w/Lati@s/Jellicent and also aid your team with Spikes support, and Latios over Gengar (or even a change in Gengars set could be beneficial, such as Sub Life Orb with Pain Split, which benefits from Spikes support).

I also suggest Charge Beam or Flash Cannon over Explosion on Magnezone, although there is definitely merit in Sunny Day for being able to beat Forretress / Ferrothorn that are used on Rain teams. I also suggest Ice Fang over Facade on Gliscor for Dragonite and the like.

EDIT: Substitute > Magnet Rise on Magnezone as well in my opinion. Sets up well on Bullet Punch / Pursuit locked Scizor

The Gengar lead I run is very anti-lead. The focus blast, if the opponents tyranitar has not invested any Speacil defense bulk will OHKO. Thunderbolt for the more common politoed leads, Shadow Ball for STAB and unless Sand is up Destiny bond will take another poke along for the ride. I like the set, but on the other hand I don't see the benefits of having a Latios in for Gengar. I see Ferrothorn will wall the poo out of Lati@s, Rotom and will fix my Jelly problem but Scizor is such a good help and I need a priority user for people that have Dragon Danced and my only hope is Scizor's bullet punch..

I'd suggest pumping more SpDef into that Scizor. Even with 56SpDef EV's he won't be handling the Lati's very well.

Really solid team but it all depends on Jellicent surviving. Without his key resistances/immunities to Fire/Water/Fighting you would be in for a rough day.

BTW- Latios with HP Fire will be taking Ferrothorn's out all day.
A wall breaking Latios really doesn't have many(if at all) safe switch ins.

really scizor has enough bulk and for a choice band set ur gonna need more speed so i would recommend putting the sp def evs in speed
