Copyediting One Brave Bird (Staraptor) [GP 0/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Staraptor lands itself a niche in NU thanks to it's high Attack and Speed stats, which can be further boosted with either a Choice Band or Choice Scarf respectively. Choice Band paired with Reckless lets Staraptor do major damage to defensive walls like Galarian Slowbro and Overqwil while putting pressure on resist foes such as Klefki and Bronzong. On the other hand Choice Scarf lets it outpace threats like Kilowattrel, Flamigo and Inteleon. Additionally, Staraptor fits on many balance teams thanks to its ability to handle common defensive cores of Amoongus, Vaporeon and Wo-Chien. Despite it's strengths, Staraptor is outclassed by Flamigo in almost every aspect as a Flying-type Choice Scarf user as it isn't weak to Stealth Rock, and has a more useful secondary STAB in Fighting-type which allows it to hit Steel-types much more effectively. Staraptor is held back by its weakness to Stealth Rock which, alongside recoil from it STAB moves, hurts Staraptor's longevity greatly. It is also held back by it's struggles to break commonplace defensive Pokemon such as Galarian Slowbro, Avalugg, Bellibolt and Duraludon thanks to their natural bulk. Staraptor's competition as a Choice Scarf user is fierce, as Munkidori and Flamigo both provide a similar Speed tier while not needing to use recoil inflicting moves, allowing them to last a longer game more effectively and still do large amounts of damage. There are other naturally fast, offensive Flying-types like Kilowattrel and Tornadus that Staraptor competes with, and both of these have much better coverage options than Staraptor which further discredits using it.

Quick Attack allows Staraptor to pick off weakened Pokemon like Flygon and Munkidori while Double Edge can be used to 2HKO foes like Galarian Slowbro and Swampert. Close Combat allows Staraptor to hit Steel-types such as Bronzong, Klefki and Copperajah. U-turn lets Staraptor capitalise on switch-ins such as Bronzong and Diancie by wearing them down. Choice Band means Staraptor can put huge dents into walls such as Altaria and Klefki, making them very limited in how often they can switch into an attack, whereas Choice Scarf makes Staraptor capable of outpacing threats like Flamigo and Kilowattrel. Tera Flying boosts the power of Brave Bird to be able to OHKO Basculegion-M and Munkidori. On the other hand, Tera Normal boosts Quick Attack and Double Edge, making the former a strong priority option and the latter able to 2HKO Gligar, while removing Staraptor's Stealth Rock weakness. Tera Fighting also increases the power of Close Combat, and provides some defensive value by giving Staraptor a resistance to Stealth Rock and having a resistance to Dark-types like Scrafty and Incineroar.

Staraptor alone can struggle to break physically defensive Pokemon such as Bellibolt, Duraludon and Slowbro-galar. Partners such as Chandelure, Flygon and Toxtricity can effectively break through them and appreciate Staraptor's U-turn support. It also benefits from other fast pivots like Inteleon, Kilowatterel and Munkidori by chipping down their checks such as Incineroar and Bronzong and allowing them to potentially KO these checks. Slower pivots like Incineroar, Bellibolt and Swampert give it free entry to capitalise on switch-ins such as Heracross, Wo-Chien and Amoongus. Furthermore, Staraptor also enjoys being partnered with hazard removal like Tsareena, Avalugg and Altaria to maximise its longevity. Tsareena inparticular is a useful partner, as its Knock Off is especially helpful for Staraptor when it comes to breaking Steel-types.

A Choice Scarf along with it's high speed tier makes Staraptor an excellent user of Final Gambit, allowing it to grab surprise KOs and deal solid damage to foes like Flygon and Bronzong, letting its teammates benefit at the cost of losing Staraptor itself.

Checks and Counters
====

**Electric-types**: Staraptor is threatened by fast Electric-types like Kilowattrel and Raikou as they can outspeed and threaten to KO it with their STAB moves, however Staraptor can surprise KO these if it is using Choice Scarf. Bellibolt is also threatening as it punishes Staraptor's moves with Rocky Helmet chip, and the risk of paralysis from Static. None of these Pokemon can switch into Staraptor's Choice Band attacks without being 2HKO'd at best, however.

**Stealth Rock**: Staraptor's reliance on Choice items makes it threatened by Stealth Rock. Furthermore, Staraptor consistently switching in and out can make this worse, since it greatly limits Staraptor's longevity and its ability to repeatedly enter the field.

**Physical Walls**: Physical walls like Galarian Slowbro, Rhyperior and Avalugg can all take hits from Staraptor and threaten it back with their own attacks, while the former also threatens it with status. Due to their raw power, these walls do not enjoy switching into Staraptor's attacks directly though.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types like Klefki, Duraludon, Bronzong and Copperajah resist Staraptor's STAB attacks, so they can freely switch into its attacks and set up hazards or hit back against Staraptor with their own attacks. Staraptor can use Close Combat though, which threatens all the aforementioned Steel-types with heavy damage.

**Revenge Killers**: One of Staraptor's largest threats come from faster Pokemon that are able to revenge kill it, such as Inteleon, Kilowatterel and Alolan Ninetails- however none of these can switch into Staraptor's attacks safely. Faster Choice Scarf users like Infernape and Munkidori can threaten and KO Staraptor once it gets worn down, but they also cannot risk switching into Staraptor's attacks. Staraptor can also be picked off by strong priority users like Choice Banded Paldean Tauros-W, Toxicroak and Arcanine.

Think this is QC ready- if it's required I write more I absolutely can, just tell me what you need adding. This is my first analysis if you couldn't tell... so hopefully there isn't TOO much to check

This was a lot so after you implement this ping me so I can check it again.

With Staraptor's ability Reckless, it can use STAB Brave Bird and Double Edge to inflict huge damage, even to Pokemon that resist these hits. However, Staraptor is held back by its's weakness to Stealth Rock, which, alongside recoil from its's STAB moves hurt Staraptor's longevity greatly.
(Add a mention how it can struggle to break through defensive walls like Galarian Slowbro, Avalugg, Bellibolt, and Duraludon.)

(Add another mention that raptor faces competition against other scarf users like Flygon, Munkidori, and Flamigo for being more useful and not relying on moves that can give them recoil damage.)

Quick Attack allows Staraptor to pick off weaken Pokemon like Flygon and Munkidori while Double Edge can be used to 2HKO foes like Galarian Slowbro and Swampert. The two STAB moves Staraptor opts for are made much more powerful by the ability Reckless, providing a 1.2x boost to them. (not necessary.) Close Combat is the third move, as it allows Staraptor to hit Steel-types such as Bronzong, (AC) and Klefki,(AC) and Copperajah for neutral damage- as well as being a high base power attack without recoil. U-turn allows Staraptor to capitalise on switch-ins like Bronzong and Diancie by worming them down. which it would fail to outright KO, meaning it can pivot into a teammate more suited to the matchup and deal huge damage to Wo-chien without being hurt by unnecessary recoil from Brave Bird. (Mentioned how band can put a huge dent against Amoonguss and Klefki, while scarf can outpace foes like Flamigo and Kilowattrel.)

(Mentioned how Tera flying boosted the power of Brave Bird and KO foes like Munkidori and Basculegion-M. Do the same thing with Tera Normal how it boost the power of Quick Attack and Double Edge while letting 2HKO threats like Gligar and Bronzong with Double Edge.)

(add a sentence on how Tera fighting boost the power of close combat while giving it a resistance to dark-types and removing its stealth rock weakness.)

Staraptor alone can struggles to break physically defensive Pokemon such as Bellibolt, Slowbro-galar and Duraludon the tier's Steel types. Partners such as Chandelure, Flygon and Toxtricity can effectively break and capitalise on these Pokemon that Staraptor cannot beat alone. Staraptor also benefits from other faster pivots, like Inteleon Bellibolt, Kilowatterel and Munkidori. (Mentioned how they bring in foes like Gastrodon and Incineroar that it can take advantage of. I would recommend also adding slow pivots like Swampert, Bellibolt, and Incineroar to bring in threats like Amoonguss and Heracross.) It also enjoys being partnered with hazard removal like options, for example Tsareena, Avalugg and Altaria to maximise Staraptor's longevity. (Add a sentence on how raptor benefits sweepers like Toxicroak, Drednaw, and Toxtricity by giving a free safe entry against threats like Vaporeon and Overqwil.)

Instead of a Choice Item, Staraptor can equip a Heavy-Duty Boots to eliminate it's hazard immunity, which lessens the demand for consistent hazard removal on it's teammates at the cost of Staraptor losing out on the Attack or Speed boost that a Choice Band or Choice Scarf would give, respectively. This is not a common choice, as Staraptor wants to hit as fast and hard as possible- it does not necessarily need to last in a drawn out game. (Not necessary) Another choice, albeit an uncommon one, is Final Gambit. It's high speed tier, amplified by a Choice Scarf with Its high speed tier, makes Staraptor an excellent user of Final Gambit, pair allowing it to grab surprise KOs and doing solid damage against foes like Flygon and Bronzong trade positively, letting benefitting it's teammates at the cost of losing Staraptor itself.

Checks and Counters
====

**Electric-types**: (mention how Kilo, Raikou, and Bolt can threaten it with their with the fomer two outpace it with the latter threatening raptor with chip damage from helmet and status but none of them enjoy switching into its choice banded attacks.)

**Physical Walls**: (Mention how walls like Avalugg, glowbro, and Bellibolt can tank its attacks while threaten raptor with their attacks, but they can’t directly switch into its choice banded attacks.)

**Steel-types**: (mention how Bronzong, Klefki, Copperajah, and Duraludon can tank its STAB attacks and freely setup hazards. However, they must be worried about switching into Close Combat.)

**Revenge Killers**: (add a mention how faster Pokemon like Kilowattrel, Inteleon, and Alolan Ninetales can outpace it and threaten raptor with their attacks but none of them enjoy switching into its STAB attacks. Also add how other scarf users like Flygon, Munkidori, and Infernape can outpace it but they must be cautious about switching into its attacks. Also mentioned how foes like Paldean Tauros-W, Toxicroak, and Arcanine can pick off raptor with priority.)

**Stealth Rock**: (this is already self-explanatory so you got this.)

Staraptor's main threat comes from Physically defensive Pokemon that can take a hit, and hurt it back. These include bellibolt (who also threatens a paralysis from Static), Avalugg, and Bronzong. Most Steel-types are also effective checks, as they resist Staraptor's STAB moves.

Offensive threats to Staraptor vary, depending on which Choice Item it is holding- Choice Band sets are forced to switch out by any faster Electric-types, or any faster Pokemon which can hit Staraptor hard, aswell as Choice Scarf users such as Toxtricity and Flamigo who threaten a KO, needing little to no chip damage. Choice Scarf Staraptor has much less Offensive counterplay- as it is only checked by other Choice Scarf users which are faster than it, but defensive counterplay is easier- with switching into Staraptor being less prediction based as it's attacks are much weaker. Very few Pokemon are both faster than Staraptor and able to take a hit from it- which means it can force damage on defensive Pokemon who try to pivot to the aforementioned offensive counterplay.

(While the stuff you wrote isn’t wrong, but all analysis don’t use this format and just type out the Pokemon checks individually.)

I don't find that this adequately compares Staraptor to Flamigo. Flamigo basically shuts Staraptor out of the metagame because it is better in every facet just about other than speed. I think you're overselling it a LOT here by calling it "solid" or saying it fits a lot on teams because it really doesn't.

Knock Off vs the Steel-types is pretty major and Altaria to maximise Staraptor's longevity. Staraptor is also useful for providing safe entry for set up sweepers such as Toxicroak, Drednaw and Toxtricity, allowing them to take advantage of threats such as Vaporeon and Overqwil.

Staraptor can equip a Heavy-Duty Boots to eliminate it's hazard immunity, which lessens the demand for consistent hazard removal on it's teammates at the cost of Staraptor losing out on the Attack or Speed boost that a Choice Band or Choice Scarf would give, respectively. at this point we are just running Flamigo A Choice Scarf, with it's high speed tier, makes Staraptor an excellent user of Final Gambit, allowing it to grab surprise KOs and deal solid damage to foes like Flygon and Bronzong, letting it's teammates benefit at the cost of losing Staraptor itself.

Checks and Counters
====

**Electric-types**: Staraptor is threatened by fast Electric-types like Kilowattrel and Raikou as they can outspeed and threaten to KO it with their STAB moves. probably should mention that scarfraptor can surprise KO them Bellibolt is also threatening as it punishes Staraptor's moves with Rocky Helmet chip, and the risk of paralysis from Static. None of these Pokemon can switch into Staraptor's Choice Band attacks without being 2HKO'd at best, however.

**Physical Walls**: Physical walls like Galarian Slowbro, Bellibolt already mentioned it in the prior bullet, so it'd be best to use a different example here if it's possible and Avalugg can all take hits from Staraptor and threaten it back with their own attacks, while the former two also threaten it with status. However, they do not enjoy switching into Staraptor's attacks directly.

**Revenge Killers**: One of Staraptor's largest threats come from faster Pokemon that are able to revenge kill it, such as Inteleon, Kilowatterel and Alolan Ninetails. However all of these cannot switch into Staraptor's attacks safely. Faster Choice Scarf users can threaten and KO Staraptor once it gets worn down, like Infernape and Munkidori but they also cannot risk switching into Staraptor's attacks. Staraptor can also be picked off by strong priority users like Choice Banded Paldean Tauros-W, Toxicroak and Arcanine.

**Stealth Rock**: Staraptor's reliance on Choice items makes it threatened by Stealth Rock. Furthermore, Staraptor consistently switching in and out can make this worse, since it greatly limits Staraptor's longevity, and greatly limits its ability to repeatedly enter the field. I think I'd actually put Stealth Rock as the second point... it's really rough

[OVERVIEW]

Staraptor lands itself a niche in NU thanks to it's high Attack and Speed stats, which can be further boosted with either a Choice Band or Choice Scarf.Choice Band paired with Reckless lets Staraptor do major damage against defensive walls like Galarian Slowbro and Overqwil while puttong pressure on resist foes such as Klefki and Bronzong. On the other hand Choice Scarf lets it outpace threats like Kilowattrel, Flamigo and Inteleon. threats like Kilowattrel, Flamigo and Inteleon. Additionally, Staraptor fits on many balance teams thanks to its ability to handle common defensive cores of Amoongus, Vaporeon and Wo-Chien. However, Staraptor is held back by its weakness to Stealth Rock, which, alongside recoil from it STAB moves hurt Staraptor's longevity greatly. It is also held back by it's struggles to break commonplace defensive Pokemon such as Galarian Slowbro, Avalugg, Bellibolt and Duraludon thanks to their natural bulk. Staraptor's competition as a Choice Scarf user is fierce, as Munkidori, Flygon and Flamigo all provide a similar Speed tier while not needing to use recoil inflicting moves, allowing them to last a more drawn out game more effectively and still doing large amounts of damage. Flamigo also outclasses Staraptor in almost every aspect as a Flying-type Choice Scarf user as it isn't weak to Stealth Rock, and has a more useful secondary STAB in Fighting-type which allows it to hit Steel-types much more effectively.

The cons section should begin with the Flamigo comparison imo. Probably can/should bring up other Flying-types too, i.e. Tornadus and Kilowattrel, for relevant comparison points too. You can probably leave Flygon out of the Choice Scarf users list there just because that set is its least common out of the good ones, and comparing Staraptor to the two premier ones is fine enough as is.

U-turn allows Staraptor to capitalise on switch-ins such as Bronzong and Diancie by wearing them down. Choice Band means Staraptor can put huge dents into walls such as Altaria and Klefki, making them very limited in how often they can switch into an attack, whereas Choice Scarf makes Staraptor capable of outpacing threats like Flamigo and Kilowatterel.

Partners such as Chandelure, Flygon and Toxtricity can effectively break and capitalise on these Pokemon that Staraptor cannot beat alone. It also synergises with these Pokemon as they benefit from Staraptor's U-turn allowing them to come in against physical walls that are forced into the field by Staraptor through them and appreciate Staraptor's U-turn support. (basically just condense the points into one sentence because right now you're overspeaking) It also benefits from other faster pivots, like Inteleon, Kilowatterel and Munkidori by chipping down their checks such as Gastrodon (my favorite nu mon) and Bronzong and allowing it to potentially KO them. Slower pivots like Incineroar, Bellibolt and Swampert give it free entry to capitalise on switch-ins such as Heracross, Wo-Chien and Amoongus. Furthermore, it also enjoys being partnered with hazard removal like Tsareena, Avalugg and Altaria to maximise Staraptor's longevity. Tsareena inparticular is a useful partner, as it's Knock Off is especially helpful for Staraptor when it comes to breaking Steel-types. Staraptor is also useful for providing safe entry for set up sweepers such as Toxicroak, Drednaw and Toxtricity, allowing them to take advantage of threats such as Vaporeon and Overqwil. (very whatever sentence that applies to almost every pivot and really isn't important to Staraptor's niche or place in the metagame)
