Onix in NU

ONIX

no Pokemon when combined with an eviolite can take physical attacks better than Onix, I think I am right in saying in the entire game.

having dragon tail and roar means you cant be taunted or set up on by substitute sets

Positives:
- it resists stealth rock
- has a support movepool
- has sturdy
- is quite quick in comparison to the rest of NU
- can run as a lead
- Brock owned one :naughty:
- good coverage

Its main rival as a physical tank in the NU tier is in the shape of Regirock, both of them lack realiable recovery, Onix even more so since it will be carrying an eviolite. Onix also can't have thunder wave.

Negatives:
- has 2 common 4x weaknesses,
- virtually unusable attack stats,
-virtually unusable sp. def stat (outside of a sandstorm and without eviolite anyway)
- has a weakness to ground, fighting types are very uncommon in in NU

sorry if this isnt up to standards, but im sure someone else has contemplated such

Eviolite-boosted base 160 Defense sounds cool, but you are forgetting Onix's horrid stats - with base 35 HP, it has statistically lesser physical bulk than Regirock, and its awful Attack means it is not exactly going to deal much damage. The only things it gets over Regirock are Taunt, Roar, and Dragon Tail, but these are nowhere near enough for Onix to merit use over Regirock, which also has decent special bulk, a good base 100 Attack, offensive options such as Stone Edge, Earthquake, and Fire Punch, and a plethora of useful support options such as Sunny Day and Toxic.

I don't wish to be harsh, but please ask someone on IRC at #neverused or even on the forums before making a thread like this.

Sadly this is 100% false, 6 of the top 10 mons in last months stats all are known for carrying some type of fighting move. I respect that we're using unpopular mons but this thing is seriously outclassed by Regirock on both defensive aspects and even on offensive aspects, too. Regirock can also abuse Thunder Wave to take a nasty sweeper down a peg while Onix has to pray that it survives a hit and roar / dtail it out, just so that said sweeper can come back in later without much loss.

The speed phaser set was pretty damn annoying when I faced it, but other than that, why would I use it over something like Golem?

Yeah this isn't even used in Little Cup.

edit: for the sake of molk this falls under the "actually loses to and is worse than Metang" clause
