~~The Pokémon~~

Spr_4p_482_s.png

Azelf @ Focus Sash

Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Naive nature (+Spe, -SpD)
- Stealth Rock
- Zen Headbutt
- Explosion
- Fire Blast

I wanted a fast lead that could get off a Stealth Rock on the first turn, but also one that could take care of common anti-leads such as Machamp and Infernape.

Strategy is to Stealth Rock on the first turn. Pretty obvious. If the foe is just another lead, then I use Explosion and be done with it. If it is an anti-lead, then some strategy kicks in. Machamp and Infernape get hit with a Zen Headbutt. Metagross, Jirachi, and Celbi leads will get hit with a Fire Blast (or two). If I can't get a reliable type advantage or a OHKO, then Explosion is the best bet.

Spr_4h_235_s.png

Smeargle (F) @ Salac Berry
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 HP/252 Spe/4 Def
Jolly nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Baton Pass
- Belly Drum
- Spore
- Substitute

This is just the Uber Belly Pass set from Smeargle's page on Smogon. It has given me a lot of success in the OU tier though. I really like the Belly Drum Pass, and a 100% accurate Sleep move doesn't hurt either.

Strategy is Spore on the first turn to prevent getting killed thanks to Smeargle's crappy defenses. Substitute on the second turn. This will get my HP to about 75%. Next turn, while the foe is still asleep, I can Belly Drum. That maxes the attack boost, and brings my HP to roughly 25%. Now, the Salac Berry will activate, and due to my Jolly nature and max speed Es, I have a great chance of a free +6 Attack & +1 Speed Pass to one of my sweepers.

As a replacement to Smeargle, I am using:

Latias (F)@Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Modest nature (+SpA, -Atk)
-Calm Mind
-Dragon Pulse
-Hidden Power [Fire]
-Recover

Spr_4p_448_s.png

Lucario (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Extremespeed

One of my favorite pokemon, other than Shuckle, who we all know has no place in OU. =)

Strategy here is to get the SalacDrum Pass. This lets me sweep and outspeed almost anything that is not Scarf'd. If Smeargle dies, or I pass the boost to someone else, then I Swords Dance once or twice, then attempt to sweep with Close Combat and Crunch. Extremespeed is to get rid of the stuff that I have no type advantage over.

Spr_4p_477_s.png

Dusknoir (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/28 Atk/228 Def
Impish nature (+Def, -SpA)
- Will-o-wisp
- Pain Split
- Earthquake
- Thunderpunch

I always loved Ghost pokemon, and Dusknoir is no exception. With her great defences, and decent attack stat, she makes a great addition to my team.

Dusknoir is my Tank. She can take a few hits, and has pseudo-healing capabilities thanks to Pain Split. She also is my way of talking out opposing Gyaradoses. First I can Will-o-wisp to lower the Gyarados's attack and do a bit of passive damage/negate leftovers. Then Thunderpunch should be a 2HKO after Stealth Rock damage, or a 3HKO, depending on the set/EV spread.

Spr_4h_130_f_s.png

Gyarados (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Bounce

A common threat in OU; Gyarados. On a side note, I always wondered why Gyarados isn't Water/Dragon...whatever.

If Lucario is dead, then Gyarados will receive the SalacDrum Pass. If not, then I Dance for 2 turns, then proceed to sweep. Not much strategy involved. Due to Celebi's increased use of Hidden Power [Electric], she has Bounce to take care of the nasty Grass-types that threaten her.

Spr_4p_466_s.png

Electivire (F) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Motor Drive
EVs: 36 Atk/220 Spe/252 SpA
Lonely nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Cross Chop
- Flamethrower

The cool evolution of Electabuzz. I always wanted a third evolution in this family.

Not as useful as I thought she would be. The plan was to BoltBeamThrow when possible, and Cross Chop for the powerful STAB, but I don't have much use for her. Any suggestions for a replacement would be great.

Jolteon does abetter job than vire at special sweeping and you have no special attackers (vire counts as mixed) Jolteon can also be given specs. Also vire has trouble ohkoing things. Little nitpick, but with (insanely) good prediction shuckle (with sandstorm) can be used in ou. It is difficult, and isn't the best, but the wtf factor makes it worth it (and the people who superpower instead of stone edge with t-tar totally priceless) Your team is also slightly weak to dd mence.

You have not one pokemon that could take more than two special attacks.. I suggest a special tank that could also deal out at special attacks at the same time since your missing that also. There's plenty of pokemon that could do this Latias being at the top really.. others would be Togekiss, suicune, milotic and gardevoir. Also Latias resists electric which is what electivire excels at so you really wouldn't be missing much.

@ZeusJuice- All the pokemon you listed are weak to electric, so that isn't really a suitable replacement for Electivire, because she is resistant.

@Aqueos- Jolteon seems to be too frail for me, and that kinda is a turn-off for me. I use Vire because she can take a hit or two before switching out.

In case you missed it, Latias and Gardevoir are on that list he gave. Neither are weak to electric. Latias resists it, in fact. I used to use a Jolteon to go with Gyarados, and I could even reliably bring it in on electric attacks so it'd be at full health. But Jolteon just cannot compare to the destructive power of Latias.
Honestly, Latias is going to do more for your team than Electivire will. With 80/90/130 defenses, she can take special hits like a champ. Also, you have no special attackers. Latias remedies this, too.

I'd recommend one of the calm mind sets, depending on if you want her to be more offensive or defensive. Since your team seems to have a more offensive tempo to it, I'd say the offensive calm mind set.

Latias@Leftovers/Life Orb
4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
Timid
Calm Mind
Dragon Pulse
Surf
Recover/HP Fire/Grass Knot

Leftovers provides obvious recovery, but Life Orb lets you hid harder faster. The last move will determine who she has trouble with. HP Fire tackles Scizor, but costs a point in speed. Grass Knot, with Life Orb, 2HKOs Tyranitar. And Recover gives her more immediate recovery, but she cannot take her usual counters, or most steels.
Other than that, I don't have any complaints. Good luck, and nice team!

So I guess Jolteon will replace Electivire...it looks promising enough. I just don't know which moveset to use. I'm thinking of the Charge Beam Sweeper... in case you don't wanna look it up, here it is:

Jolteon @Life Orb
Timid 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Charge Beam
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power [Grass]
Shadow Ball

Now I guess the only problem is that I am missing a Fire-type attack... any ideas? and thoughts on the Jolteon set please, too.

EDIT: ON SECOND THOUGHT, I'M GOING TO USE THE OFFENSIVE CALM MIND SET THAT RICKHEG RECCOMMENDED A FEW POSTS ABOVE. I WILL USE LEFTOVERS AND HIDDEN POWER [FIRE].

So these are the problems I have been facing in Shoddy:

Bulky Water types (especially Starmie)
Swampert, Quagsire, and other Water/Ground hybrids
Gengar
Poison Heal+Spore Breloom

**Bump**
Please can someone help me out? I have gotten better, but there are still some holes in my team, I just can't figure them out.

You could use a pursuiter to stop Gengar, and just get some special attacker with grass knot for the bulky waters. I personally use Empoleon, but you could use Starmie or Celebi as well. You could also give your Latias grass knot in place of hidden power, since Electivire already knows a fire attack.
Edit: sorry, I didn't realize you switched out Jolteon for Electivire.

I don't like electivire on this team since its stopped cold by Rotom, futhermmore Rotom will fire of a Wil-o-wisp and latias s your only real switch in since all of your other pokemon hate burns.

I suggest a Celebi or Shaymin in place of Electivire to better handle water types. Alternativly SpecsJolt handles most of the pokemon you stated you had trouble with (thunderbolt for Water types, HP grass for Ground types and Shadow Ball for Gengar)

Hope I helped
Have a Nice Day!

I do not have any great love for your Electivire set. I believe that you could do much better with something like infernape if you wanted a mixed sweeper.

Also I think your Azelf lead would function much better if it was specially based and not physical. Explosion will KO a ton of OU pokemon without the extra boost and Psychic is better in almost every respect when compared to Zen Headbutt.

If you want more relevant rates, I would recommend that you edit your team according to the advice that you're saying that you're going to take. Just saying; people still think that you're going to be using Electavire in that slot.

I think that if Bulky waters are giving you too much trouble, you should go with Toxic on Dusknoir instead of WoW. I know of no bulky water, even ones that have recovery, that would enjoy bing Toxic + Pressure stalled. True, that means you can't wreak special attackers anymore, but the only thing bulky water that can consistently beat your noir is CroCune, which has virtually disappeared in the OU meta.
