1v1 [ORAS] Mega Mawile

pazza

Banned deucer.
[OVERVIEW]
Mega Mawile's insane Attack after Huge Power and immense offensive movepool make it a great offensive Pokemon in the metagame. An amazing typing of Steel / Fairy allows it to resist prevalent types such as Dragon, Dark, and Normal so it can deal with Kyurem-B, Mega Sableye, and Mega Lopunny. Good 50 / 120 / 95 bulk and Intimidate allow Mega Mawile to survive most neutral hits and even some super effective ones and handle most physical attackers in the metagame. Alternatively, Hyper Cutter can be used to set up against Charm Venusaur and beat Intimidate Gyarados. However, Mega Mawile's Speed tier is a double-edged sword, as it provides a slow Metal Burst but can leave it outsped and OHKOed in certain bad matchups. There are many common Fire- and Ground-types such as Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, Heatran, Donphan, and Landorus that can OHKO Mega Mawile efficiently.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Metal Burst is always good to use against Choice item users like Garchomp and Choice Specs Greninja, as well as Pokemon that resist Mega Mawile's STAB attacks like Genesect. Iron Head gives Mawile an easier time against Fairy- and Poison-types such as Mega Gardevoir and Mega Venusaur while also being safer against Nasty Plot Porygon-Z. Play Rough is Mega Mawile's strongest move and is used to take down Dark- and Dragon-types such as Mega Sableye, Mega Gyarados, and Kyurem-B. Taunt is used to shut down stall Pokemon such as Jumpluff, Whimsicott, Chansey, and Charm Mega Venusaur if Mega Mawile has Iron Head. Sucker Punch makes up for Mega Mawile's terrible Speed and allows it to finish foes off that it barely can't OHKO, like Meloetta and Sturdy users like Crustle and Sawk, although Crustle and Sawk can OHKO Mega Mawile with Counter if it uses a powerful attack turn one. Sucker Punch is also used to finish off Custap Berry users, namely Magnezone and Porygon-Z.

Set Details
========

Mega Mawile's 248 HP EVs, 252 Special Defense EVs, and Careful nature allow it to take a plethora of special attacks such as Modest Choice Specs Porygon-Z's Hyper Beam and Choice Specs Greninja's Hydro Cannon. The 248 HP EVs also boost its tanking abilities against physical attackers, specifically Garchomp and Mega Gyarados. Intimidate is preferred over Hyper Cutter, since it allows Mega Mawile to tank hits such as Earthquake from both Choice Band Garchomp and Adamant Choice Band Dragonite, and it ensures Genesect will get its Attack stat boosted by Download instead of its Special Attack. Mega Mawile can run the EV spread of 248 HP / 188 Atk / 72 Def with an Adamant nature to always survive an Earthquake from Choice Band Garchomp and OHKO back with Metal Burst. However, this spread fails to survive Hydro Cannon from Choice Specs Greninja, Flamethrower from Genesect, and Hyper Beam from Choice Specs Porygon-Z.

Usage Tips
========

Use Mega Mawile against special attackers. This set also does well against Choice item users that cannot OHKO Mega Mawile, as it can either use Metal Burst to return any damage or Play Rough to OHKO. These include Choice Band Garchomp, Choice Specs Greninja, Choice Specs Genesect, and Choice Band Kyurem-B. Beware of Pokemon that can work around Metal Burst, like Metal Sound Magnezone and Nasty Plot Porygon-Z. Be wary of Counter users, namely Sawk and Crustle; to counter them, do not use Iron Head or Play Rough turn one.

Team Options
========

Rock-types such as Mega Tyranitar and Terrakion work well with Mega Mawile, since they can deal with prevalent Fire-types like Heatran, Mega Charizard X, and Mega Charizard Y, while Mega Mawile can deal with Fighting-types such as Mega Heracross and Mega Lopunny and Water-types like Azumarill and Greninja. Water-types like Mega Blastoise, Greninja, and Mega Gyarados pair well with Mega Mawile, since they can deal with Ground- and Fire-types as well as Mega Metagross. Fire-types such as Will-O-Wisp Mega Charizard X and Heatran can beat Magnezone, Mega Aggron, and Mega Metagross. Mega Mawile can also partner with special attackers, namely the aforementioned Greninja and Porygon-Z, since they can deal with physically defensive Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro and Mew, while Mega Mawile can threaten specially defensive Pokemon like Mega Sableye, Chansey, and Mega Tyranitar.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Mega Mawile can run a Hyper Cutter set with an EV spread of 240 HP / 228 Atk / 40 Spe, an Adamant nature, and the moves Swords Dance, Iron Head, Play Rough, and Taunt or Sucker Punch. Using this set gives Mega Mawile a better matchup against Mega Gyarados and opposing Mega Mawile, and it also beats Mega Venusaur with Taunt and Swords Dance. Taunt + Counter can be used to beat Registeel and Mega Metagross if Mega Metagross isn't running Substitute. Fire Fang can be used to have a better matchup against opposing Mega Mawile.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire- and Ground-types**: Fire- and Ground-types such as Heatran, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Charizard X, Volcarona, and Landorus are able to outspeed Mega Mawile and OHKO it with a super effective move.

**Physical Walls**: Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mew, Slowbro, and Registeel can all boost their Defense against Mega Mawile. Mew can use Taunt to block Mega Mawile's Swords Dance or Taunt, Slowbro can ignore Taunt with Oblivious by not Mega Evolving, and Registeel can easily tank Mega Mawile's attacks and retaliate with Seismic Toss.

**Bulky Steel-types**: Bulky Steel-types such as Mega Metagross and Mega Aggron can easily eat up Mega Mawile's attacks, attack back, and eventually KO it.

  • Mega Mawile's insane attack of 210 after Huge Power while paired with its immense movepool of offensive options make it a great offensive attacker in the metagame.
  • A very good typing of Steel / Fairy allows it to resist against prevalent types such as Fairy, Psychic, Normal, and Dark, so it can deal with Togekiss, Mega Gardevoir, Porygon-Z, and Mega-Gyarados.
  • While also having great bulk of 50/120/95 and included with Intimidate allowing Mega Mawile to survive most neutral hits and even some super effective ones
  • However, Mega Mawile's poor speed tier does it no good other than being able to use Metal Burst almost every time successfully.
  • There are many common Fire- and Ground-types such as Charizard, Heatran, and Donphan, which can OHKO Mega Mawile efficiently.

Moves
========
  • Metal Burst is always good to use against Choice users like Garchomp and Genesect, as well as Pokemon that resist Play Rough namely Mega Metagross and Choice Band Ferrothorn.
  • Play Rough is Mega Mawile's strongest Fairy-type move which it uses to take down Dark- and Dragon-types such as Mega Sableye, Mega Gyarados, and Kyurem-B.
  • Taunt is used to shut down stall Pokemon such as Charm Mega Venusaur, Whimiscott, and Chansey.
  • Sucker Punch makes up for Mega Mawile's terrible speed and allows it to finish foes off that it barely can OHKO like Meloetta and Sturdy users like Crustle and Sawk.
Set Details
========

  • 248 HP EV's is used to make Mega Mawile as bulky as possible to take hits from Mega Metagross and Genesect and return back with Metal Burst and OHKO.
  • 252 SpD EV's and a Careful nature allows Mega Mawile to take a plethora of Special Attacks such as Modest Choice Specs Hyper Beam Porygon-Z and Hydro Cannon Greninja.
  • Intimidate is preferred over Hyper Cutter since it allows Mega Mawile to tank more hits such as Earthquake from both Choice Band Garchomp and Adamant Choice Band Dragonite.
Usage Tips

  • Use Mega Mawile against Special Attackers, this set does well against Choice item users that cannot OHKO Mega Mawile, as Mega Mawile can either use Metal Burst to return any damage or use Play Rough to OHKO. This includes Choice Band Garchomp, Choice Specs Greninja, Choice Specs Genesect, and Choice Band Kyurem-B.
  • Although this being a lure strategy, if they know your strategy, Pokemon like Magnezone can use Metal Sound can lower your Defense and then OHKO.
Team Options
========

  • Rock-types such as Mega Tyranitar and Terrakion work well with Mega Mawile since they can deal with the prevalent force of Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y, while Mega Mawile can deal with Water-type Pokemon that threaten aforementioned Rock-types such as Mega Gyarados and Azumarill.
  • Mega Mawile can also partner with Special Attackers namely Greninja and Porygon-Z since they can deal with Physically Defensive Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro and Mew, while Mega Mawile can threaten specially defensive Pokemon like Meloetta, Chansey and Mega Mawile.

Hello :)

[OVERVIEW]:
- Remove Gyarados from things it beats because you don't always beat it, also togekiss is a meh example. Also specs PZ can OHKO non spdf maw. I'd add better Pokemon such as Kyurem-Black, Mega Sableye, Mega Lopunny.
+ Add Intimidate allows it to check most physical attackers in the meta, or hyper cutter which allows it to set up against Charm Venusaur, check Intimidate Gyarados (I know I said that Maw doesn't always beat Gyarados, tbf it depends on sets which is why I'd rather not put it in the opening phrases which imply that it wins 100% but put it in situational examples such as here.)
~ Maybe you can say that Mawile Speed tier is double edged, making it sound better? ig.
+- I'd put the typing above the speed tier so it can flow better. Mention that Fire- are popular in the metagame (See zards, volcarona, heatran) Add Landorus as ground-type (Even tho ground-types need to be afraid of metal burst lol) def add lando-I though.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves:
General comment, you have pretty bad examples in this section.

-Remove Choice Band ferrothorn, Mega Maw doesn't win against a good mega metagross so I'd remove the example (eh nitpick so if a qc tells u otherwise ig i can agree w/ them but I'd remove it). It's cool you can pick choiced users but only use popular choiced users, sect + chomp are cool, add Specs Greninja.
+SLASH Iron Head / Metal Burst. Gives you an easier time vs Fairies and Poison types (Gardevoir, and Venusaur) and is safer against the likes of nasty plot pz.
-Taunt doesn't always shutdown mega venu, Taunt+Iron Head does since like sleep powder+seed+any attack move does the trick since you don't have SD. So I wouldn't call it even a complete shutdown. It's really an iffy matchup and also set dependent.
+Specifically add that Sawk/Crustle have the move Counter which defeats Mawile if it use any powerful attacking move turn 1. Add that sucker punch also helps against Custap Users + finish off pokemon that didn't die to metal burst.

Set Details
========
- No. Mawile doesn't OHKO metagross-mega w/ metal burst. I'd add physical attackers here like Garchomp. Genesect gets OHKO'd cause its of maw spdf. Just say it maximize maw tanking capabilities.
- Specs Greninja* Add Genesect mention that it boosts the Atk of genesect not spa.
- If the Speed EVs don't outspeed anything notable I'd just put them in HP and/or Def / Atk

Team Options
========
-No. Mega Mawile doesn't always deal with "WATERS" in general. Mention that it beats Fighting-type yes. It also helps vs Greninja yes.
-Idea is there but the examples are still bad. Greninja + PZ works yea, they allow mawile to break through physically bulky Pokemon yea. But Mega Mawile doesn't deal with mega mawile.. and Meloetta doesn't threaten PZ or Greninja much. Mention TTar as spdf Pokemon + something else.
+Water-types are cool w/ Maw. Beats Fire/Grounds and Metagross-Mega. Something like mega gyarados / blastoise is cool
+You can def think of a Good Pokemon that allows the team to muscle through metagross and other threats

I know that there's two more but for OO I'll talk with other QC members and see what we want here. Checks and Counters are Okay, could def be reworded. Ground-types don't always lose. Include both zards in fire-types. Mention Volcarona.

NO QC yet, implement all of this then tag me so I can go over it again. Message me on discord if unsure / have any question.

Mega Mawile's insane Attack of 496 with 8 Attack Careful and 678 with Max Attack Adamant after Huge Power while paired with its and immense offensive movepool of offensive options make it a great offensive attacker Pokemon in the metagame. An amazing typing of Steel / Fairy allows it to resist against prevalent types such as Dragon, Dark, and Normal, so it can deal with Kyurem-B, Mega Sableye, and Mega Lopunny. While also having great Good 50/120/95 ("good" is kinda nitpicky, but 50/120/95 doesn't seem "great"? idk) bulk of 50/120/95 and paired with Intimidate allowing allow Mega Mawile to survive most neutral hits and even some super effective ones. Intimidate allows it to check handle most physical attackers in the meta, or Hyper Cutter which allows it to can be used to set up against Charm Venusaur and check beat Intimidate Gyarados. However, Mega Mawile's speedtier Speed tier is a double-edged sword in the sense Mawile will always be able to use (AS) as it provides a slow Metal Burst but other times get can leave it outsped and OHKOed in certain bad matchups. (preventing whiplash from "this mon can survive most hits") There are many common Fire- and Ground-types such as Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, Heatran, Donphan, and Landorus (RC) which that can OHKO Mega Mawile efficiently.

Moves
========

Metal Burst is always good to use against Choice item users like Garchomp and Choice Specs Greninja, as well as Pokemon that resist Mega Mawile's STAB attacks like Genesect. Iron Head gives Mawile an easier time against Fairy- and Poison-types such as Mega Gardevoir and Mega Venusaur (RC) while also being safer against Nasty Plot Porygon-Z. Play Rough is Mega Mawile's strongest Fairy-type move which it uses and is used to take down Dark- and Dragon-types such as Mega Sableye, Mega Gyarados, and Kyurem-B. Taunt is used to shut down stall Pokemon such as Jumpluff, Whimsicott, Chansey, and Charm Mega Venusaur if Mega Mawile has Iron Head. Sucker Punch makes up for Mega Mawile's terrible Speed and allows it to finish foes off that it barely can't OHKO (AC) like Meloetta and Sturdy users like Crustle and Sawk, although Crustle and Sawk can OHKO Mega Mawile with Counter if Mega Mawile it uses a powerful attack turn one. Sucker Punch is also to finish off Custap Berry users (AC) namely Magnezone and Porygon-Z.

Set Details
========

Mega Mawile's 248 HP EV's is to maximize Mega Mawile's tanking abilities against Physical Attackers specifically Garchomp and Mega Gyarados. EVs, 252 SpD EV's Special Defense EVs, and a Careful nature allows Mega Mawile it to take a plethora of special attacks such as Modest Choice Specs Hyper Beam Porygon-Z's Hyper Beam and Choice Specs Greninja. As well as the fact Genesect will get its Attack stat boosted from Download, instead of Special Attack. Greninja's Hydro Cannon. The 248 HP EVs also boost its tanking abilities against physical attackers, specifically Garchomp and Mega Gyarados. Intimidate is preferred over Hyper Cutter (AC) since it allows Mega Mawile to tank more hits such as Earthquake from both Choice Band Garchomp and Adamant Choice Band Dragonite (AC) and it ensures Genesect will get its Attack stat boosted by Download instead of its Special Attack. Mega Mawile can run the EV spread of 248 HP / 188 Atk / 72 Def with an Adamant Nature to always live survive an Earthquake from Choice Band Garchomp (RC) and OHKO back with Metal Burst. Although However, this spread fails to live survive Hydro Cannon from Choice Specs Greninja, Flamethrower from Genesect, and Hyper Beam from Choice Specs Porygon-Z.

Usage Tips
========

Use Mega Mawile against special attackers. (comma -> period) This set also does well against Choice item users that cannot OHKO Mega Mawile, as Mega Mawile it can either use Metal Burst to return any damage or use Play Rough to OHKO. This includes These include Choice Band Garchomp, Choice Specs Greninja, Choice Specs Genesect, and Choice Band Kyurem-B. Although this being a lure strategy, if they know Mawile's strategy, Beware of Pokemon that can work around Metal Burst (AC) like Metal Sound Magnezone can use Metal Sound can lower Mawile's Special Defense or and Nasty Plot Porygon-Z can set up with Nasty Plot and then OHKO. Be wary of Counter users (AC) namely Sawk and Crustle; (comma -> semicolon) to counter this them (AC) do not use Iron Head or Play Rough turn one.

Team Options
========

Rock-types such as Mega Tyranitar and Terrakion work well with Mega Mawile (AC) since they can deal with the prevalent force of Fire-types like Heatran, Mega Charizard X (AC) and Mega Charizard Y, while Mega Mawile can deal with Fighting-type Pokemon that threaten aforementioned Rock-types such as Mega Heracross and Mega Lopunny (RC) and Water-types like Azumarill and Greninja. Water-types like Mega Blastoise, Greninja, and Mega Gyarados pair well with Mega Mawile (AC) since they can deal with Ground- and Fire-types while also being able to beat as well as Mega Metagross. Fire-types such as Will-O-Wisp Mega Charizard X and Heatran can beat Magnezone, Mega Aggron, and Mega Metagross. Mega Mawile can also partner with special attackers (AC) namely the aforementioned Greninja and Porygon-Z (AC) since they can deal with physically defensive Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro and Mew, while Mega Mawile can threaten specially defensive Pokemon like Mega Sableye, Chansey, and Mega Tyranitar.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options

Using this set gives Mega Mawile a better matchup against Mega Gyarados and opposing Mega Mawile, while and it also being able to beats Mega Venusaur with Taunt and Swords Dance. Taunt + Counter on Mega Mawile can be used to beat Registeel and Mega Metagross (RC) if Mega Metagross isn't running Substitute. Checks and Counters (fixed spacing around header)
===================

**Fire- and Ground-type Pokemon**: Fire- and Ground-type Pokemon such as Heatran, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Charizard X, Volcarona, (removed extra space) and Landorus are able to outspeed Mega Mawile and OHKO it with a super effective (removed hyphen) move.
