ORAS OU ORAS Offence & Defence team!

So I need a LOT of help with my competitive teams, I’ve been competitive battling for about a year now and I know a lot about the competitive scene. I’ve been trying to battle a lot to improve my skills but my teams are just too weak and beatable because I find it hard to create well balanced teams. At the moment I’m trying to make a team on the lines of what I have now and have been focusing on typing and range of attacks. I am open to all comments and hope you can reply and give me feedback because I really want to have a good team for ORAS.

My team building process…

First off I wanted to add my mega. For this spot I wanted a ‘tank’ Pokémon that can dish out attacks but also stay in the battle longer seeing as my teams have been too fragile in the past. After a long deliberation I settled for Mega Scizor. Scizor allows my to have an extremely strong attacker with the defences so stay in the game longer and with a little help from roost it would be especially hard to kill, not even mentioning how many types he resists. It would also help for revenge killing when I added my main sweepers to dent holes in the pokes.

For my second Pokémon I decided to go for a Pokémon that was also defensive and can take hits but can also fill in the gaps in my Scizor. Scizor only has one weakness but its a x4, fire, naturally I wanted a bulky water type to absorb the hits and knock it out. After scrolling through tier list after tier list I chose Empoleon. The only downside was the steel typing, which is good for the typing between the too seeing as only three typed between the two hit neutrally but it cant take the fire hits. In the end I decided to go with it because of agility and its strong special attack stat.

Looking at the typing I already had only three types hit me neutrally, dark, fight and ghost. I remembered back to facing a Hawlucha that once wiped my team and seeing as it can now wipe these too as well I really needed something to wall it. I decided to combine these two facts and use Clefable to act as a wall against its high jump kick and destroy enemy Hawlucha and resist and attack dark and fighting Pokémon. It would also act as a toxic staller for any Pokémon that I cant knock out and give reliable healing with wish to Empoleon.

After having a look at the Pokémon I have so far I notices that I lacked a fast Pokémon that can dent and OHKO opposing Pokémon and set up my Scizor and Empoleon for revenge killing and picking of weakened foes. I was considering Talonflame or Staraptor but I decided to go for Staraptor. A reckless Startaptor can wreak havoc among the opposing team, I decided to use a choice scarf for the speed boost and it can U-Turn out or pretty much 2HKO anything. with double-edge and brave bird causing a lot of recoil damage then Clefable can also heal wish Staraptor who may be able to switch in because it resists and is immune to many types.

I then noticed that I have a weakness to electric with my Staraptor and Empoleon so I wanted a ground type to add a safe switch in and a Pokémon that can also absorb some more hits while wearing the foe down. I decided to go with Garchomp because resists rock which Staraptor dreads. It is immune to electric so it would provide a great switch in and is also resistant to fire which Scizor is demolished by. Its weaknesses are also covered by the rest of the team, ice is covered by the two steel types (mainly Empoleon), fairy is also covered by the two. then dragon is also covered by Garchomp himself and Clefable.

For my final Pokémon I looked at my team and thought I was pretty solid defensively so I started looking at my offence. I personally would have liked a special sweeper to go along with my Staraptor. Even though not defensively sound I decided to go with my old favourite Greninja which has been on every one of my XY/ORAS teams so far. needless to say it is amazing seeing as it is being tested for Uber (stay in ou Greninja, stay!). Greninja is definitely not switch in Pokémon but once it starts, as long as the foe is slower, can be a nightmare to kill. With its great movepool its hard to predict his move so I can get hit by a 0.5 attacking move and stay alive longer.

In detail…

Scizor @ Scizorite
Technician - Adamant
IVS - 31/31/31/x/31/31
EVS - 252 ATT, 252 HP, 4 SPEED
Moveset;
Swords dance
Roost
Bullet punch
X-scissor

With Mega Scizors defensive typing it can easily be a safe switch in to many of my teams enemies like Mega Venasaur, dragon and fairy types then bullet punch boosted with technician to finish them. I believe this is a pretty decent set by anyone's standards. This is a great set to revenge kill with boosted bullet punch but the main use of this set for me would be to flush out all of Scizors threats in the opposing team ie, Talonflame, Gyarados and Charizard with his megas and then swords dance and roost. then bullet punch holes through the opponent. X-scizzor on this set is mainly just for coverage and think this is a possibility to change in the future. 252 EVs and an adamant nature gives Mega Scizor an even better attack stat. Even with just one sword dance boost it can 2HKO a Mega Venusaur with 232 EVs invested in HP. 252 EVs invested in HP also adds to its already bulky stats, it can take hits better making it be able to dish out more attacks. Overall I believe this Pokémon is an asset to my team and as long as it can hit neutral, (and the foe isn't a fire type) it not only can win but can boost as well.

Empoleon @ Petaya berry
Torrent - Modest
IVS - 31/x/31/31/31/31
EVS - 252 SP ATT, 104 HP, 152 SPEED
Moveset;
Surf
Agility
Substitute
Flash cannon

Empoleon is blessed defensively with its above average defences, and is only boosted by the ten types it resists as well as the one it is immune to. Empoleon is weak to one of the most used moves overall, earthquake but can hit back hard thanks to it water typing. While its defences are solid it can also pack a punch with the Petaya berry, torrent combo along side its one hundred and eleven base attack it can deal some damage. I decided to go with agility to give it some needed speed to out speed most non choice scarf users so it had the potential to 2HKO while only get hit once, I thought this was quite important because Empoleon needs to reserve as much HP as possible because it has no reliable recovery with this set. Substitute protects it from foes that will switch in on it so it can use agility while also bringing its HP closer to the torrent and Petaya zone. 252 EVs in special attack is pretty self explanatory allowing it to 1HKO Talonflame, Charizard and Excadrill. I Decided to put one hundred and fifty two EVs into speed to with the help of one agility it can out speed a jolly 253 EV speed Talonflame and go in for the 1HKO without taking any damage assuming agility is already used which would otherwise kill Scizor, Greninja and Staraptor (if it doesn’t 1HKO it (93.8% chance to kill it)). Surf is its main stab hitting hard at a base of 90 while flash cannon is there to kill the odd defensive ice or fairy Mon that Scizor's bullet punch couldn't finish off.

Clefable @ Leftovers
Unaware - Calm
IVS - 31/x/31/31/31/31
EVS - 252 HP, 252 DEF, 4 SP DEF
Moveset;
Toxic
Wish
Heal bell
Moonblast

I believe this set is pretty standard for Clefable, it can wall many Pokémon due to its great tying and solid defences and fits perfectly being able to take down dark and fighting Pokémon where the others in my team would struggle. While saying that I do believe this Pokémon is mainly a utility/support Pokémon because it runs heal bell which cures status of all Pokémon which is really handy because burns and paralysis cripples my team. it also runs wish which is mainly their to heal Empoleon and Staraptor because they don't have any recovery moves. Although good for my other Pokémon I’m still not total convinced on wish seeing as protect isn't their to help it directly meaning any Pokémon against it would have to do less than 50% damage to make use from it. Moonblast acts as its stab move allowing it to 1HKO many threats such as Hawlucha, ConKeldurr and dragon types. Toxic is also their to help cripple walls, stallers and tanks that my team wouldn't be able to break without it allowing a Pokémon like Scizor to come in and roost till the toxic kills the opponent. Finally with its ability unaware it can switch in on potential calm minders and swords dancers to stop any stat boosts from the likes of opposing Scizor, Garchomp and Gyarados. 252 EVs invested into HP and defence can helps it survive a 2HKO from the likes of Hawlucha and Talonflame while a calm nature and 4 EVs in special defence allows it to survive 2HKOs from Charizard Y andLati@s.

Staraptor @ Choice scarf
Reckless - Jolly
IVS - 31/31/31/x/31/31
EVS - 252 SPEED, 252 ATT, 4 HP
Moveset;
Brave bird
Double-edge
Close combat
U-turn

I love Staraptor, gen four was my gen and seeing it gain the ability reckless just made it better. At a base of 100 its speed isn't the best but the choice scarf boost helps it practically out speed everything. This speed boost helps it scout opposing Pokémon as a lead and U-turn out for a better match up or destroy the opposing Pokémon. Its 120 base attack is nothing to laugh at and combined with reckless, brave bird and double-edge hit back very hard at a stab 144. Brave bird and double-edge are the obvious two leading moves because of its hidden ability and they are both stab attacks. U-turn is obvious for scouting as a lead and switching out fast in case of any threats. the last move slot was a toss up between roost and close combat but because of the choice item I decided against roost because I would need to switch out then back in to make use of roost. Close combat also deals with strong foes like Bisharp and Mega Tyranitar who would otherwise check it. But even with its amazing power the recoil damage would really hurt it and probably kill it after taking a hit, to resolve this problem I go back to Clefable with wish, switching into Staraptor if I can get away with being hit.

Garchomp @ Rocky helmet
Rough skin - Jolly
IVS - 31/31/31/x/31/31
EVS - 252 SPEED, 252 ATT, 4 HP
Moveset;
Swords dance
Dragon claw
Earthquake
Rock slide

I believe Garchomp fits perfectly onto this team, it provides a super effective stab against fire, electric rock and steel types that could potentially destroy my team while also adding another poison counter. Its dragon typing takes it to a whole new level making it resistant to fire, poison and rock while also adding an immunity to electric types. also with this team its big weakness which is ice and fairy is covered by both Empoleon with flash cannon and Scizor's bullet punch. Dragon is also covered by Clefable and itself if it can out speed. Rocky helmet and rough skin can rack up damage deterring physical attackers which can help wear down opposing Talonflame due to the combo of the to and recoil damage. To be totally honest I’m not sure about the technicalities of this set with nature and EVs, I decided for a revenge killer of sorts with the main load set to a fast and strong but I don't know whether a bulky Garchomp would benefit my team in the long run. Sword dance is an obvious necessity for this set allowing it to go for a sweep if boosted enough making its already great attack even better. I went for dragon claw over outrage and dragon rush because I wanted the extra accuracy and I didn't want to be locked into a move where the foe could have steel or fairy types, I also didn't want to have to replace the item with a lum berry cause the extra HP can take away with the rocky helmet is more useful to me overall. Earthquake is an obvious choice as it hits hard against foes that could check my other pokes as has 100% accuracy. Finally I decides for accuracy again, I chose rock slide over stone edge for the extra accuracy plus the chance to flinch the foe which is always an added bonus. the extra rock move also lets me check flying types that my other pokes wont be able to get at.

Greninja @ Life orb
Protean - Timid
IVS - 31/x/31/31/31/31
EVS - 252 Speed, 252 SP ATT, 4 HP
Moveset;
Extrasensory
Grass knot
Surf
Ice beam

Now finally the Pokémon I do best Greninja! I believe with Greninja everyone knows what to expect but no one knows its moveset because Greninja has a wide move pool and with protean can take on many forms. Life orb, protean and 252 EVs boosts Greninja’s mediocre special attack and allows it to sweep unprepared teams. A timid nature combined with its 252 investment in speed gives it an amazing speed only being beaten by a few pokes in OU. With Greninja I have had a lot experience and have moulded this moveset to give the perfect balance of offence and defence. First I chose extrasensory over dark pulse to surprise the opposing team and can easily KO many fighting type Pokes who think they can KO it with its dark typing and also KO Pokémon such as Venasaur who can usually beat Greninja. Extrasensory is also just as powerful as dark pulse and still has a 10% flinch chance. I haven't come across many Greninjas’ with grass knot but I do think its great because if my Greninja wins the speed tie against other Greninja grass knot will usually 1HKO it, it also adds coverage and a defensive typing against bulky water Pokémon and usually generally surprises the foe. In my opinion surf and ice beam are mandatory for Greninja they both have great coverage together while once adds a chance to put the foe to sleep. Overall I love Greninja and it can sweep but is vulnerable to Pokémon such as Talonflame and Hawlucha.

Thank you for reading I would really appreciate any comments on this team and really want to make this a great team.
I also want to say sorry for the lack of images I tried to add and write on my laptop but it couldn't let me write anything but the title so I done it on my phone and this doesn't let me add images either. (If anyone has a way to help please say)
