Just got back into pokemon with Alpha Sapphire and wanted to make an ORAS-only team, since I don't have access to other games anymore. Could use some help since I'm not very good at teambuilding, specifically with analyzing weaknesses. Also could use some help choosing the last team member, since it currently doesn't have much synergy with the rest of team.

In-Depth:
Mega-Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 24 Def / 232 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
Gardevoir is the main focus of this team, as its a pretty good Mega-evolution that is available in ORAS. Pixelate Hyper Voice is incredibly strong coming off an impressive SpA stat, and the speed is respectable as well. Will-O-Wisp is used to cripple common switch-ins that want to take advantage of Gardevoir's less impressive physical defense, and Focus Blast can take care of many Steel-type switch-ins such as Ferrothorn and Heatran. Unfortunately the set is still beat pretty badly by Mega Scizor, so the rest of the team's job is to take care of it.
Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 12 HP / 252 SpA / 244 Spe
Timid Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
- Taunt
- Earth Power
Looking for a good counter to Scizor, I fortunately remembered that Heatran is available in ORAS as well. This is the offensive air balloon variety of Heatran, since the team doesn't want to lose momentum. It beats many checks to Gardevoir, including Ferrothorn and Scizor (among other steel types). The air balloon, along with earth power is great help in beating opposing Heatran as well as adding another immunity (temporarily). It also helps that Heatran can put down Stealth Rocks while doing all of the above.
Latios @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Trick
I chose Latios as my primary revenge killer because it covers Heatran's weaknesses, resisting Water, Ground, and Fighting. Draco Meteor puts a dent into pretty much anything not Fairy-type. Unfortunately my in-game Latios does not have HP fire, which would provide additional coverage for Ferrothorn and Scizor, and it doesn't get Defog in ORAS either, so I opted to use Surf to surprise Heatran, which works in that niche circumstance.
Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
Heatran often wants to keep it's Air Balloon if opposing Heatran is on the other team (which it often is), so often it can't do its job or does it too cautiously. This is where Magnezone comes in. Magnezone traps Ferrothorn, Scizor and many other steel types to let Gardevoir sweep. Magnezone is also my go-to fairy check. The choice scarf also lets it outspeedTalonflame and other flying types too, making it a decent revenge killer along with a steel trapper.
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 88 HP / 192 Atk / 4 Def / 224 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce
Since so much of the team was devoted to removing steel-types anyway, I opted to go for another sweeper that occasionally has issues with bulky steels. Gyarados came to mind, as it synergizes well with Magnezone, resisting Fire, Fighting and Ground, while Magnezone resists Electric and Rock. This is the standard bulky dragon dance set, as I have no other setup sweepers. Substitute lets me scout out opponent moves and generally gives me more wiggle room with prediction. Despite its seemingly random selection, Gyarados works quite well as a second sweeper on the team; while Gardevoir hits hard on the special side, Gyarados (after boosting) hits the physical side, rounding out the team's offensive presence.
Breloom @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Rock Tomb
The final member of the team was a fairly random choice; Breloom was mostly selected to add a Grass-typing (finishing a FWG core) and it has been one of my favorite pokemon, with its unique 100% accurate Spore and brutal Bullet Seed. Rock tomb is also an interesting choice as it decreases the speed of switch-ins with 90 Base Power to boot (it also finishes out coverage pretty well, hitting Bug and Flying pokemon that would otherwise wall it). Unfortunately it often has quite some trouble switching in, as it is very frail, and can usually only come in when a team member faints. It doesn't really support the rest of the team either, and I would be willing to use a different Pokemon that works better with the overall team strategy.
