Hi! I just want to say that I am new to smogon forums (though I have used the site it'self since 2012). I have been on serebii forums, and I'm a constant Pokemon showdown user, if I do make a mistake (which I think is unlikely since I've read the rules) please let me know. Anyways....
I've been a mono-type fanatic even before I was competitive, I got more into it after I found out about leagues and the sort. I mad a bug mono since I felt that bug types were extremely underused (And mega-mawile and aegislash got banned).
(Crustle) @ Liechi Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Rock Blast
- Earthquake
- X-Scissor
Crustle is really underrated in the bug mono field. Set up a shell smash with max speed, and you already have the Sturdy+Liechi Berry combo. The Liechi Berry will raise speed when under 1/4 health, making Crustle pretty fast. Rock Blast is just to get past sashes and sturdy's. Earthquake and X-Scissor should be used as well. Earthquake is primarily for countering Heatran.
The Unexpected
(Galvantula) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Giga Drain
Offensive Galvantula is actually really good. Thunder is actually viable due to compound eyes. Hidden power ice for the ground type coverage. Giga Drain for Quagsire (I despise it's existence). Bug Buzz as a STAB filler. Galvantula is also extremely quick, making it sweeper potential.
The Mega
(Pinsir) @ Pinsirite
Ability: Moxie
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Frustration
- Close Combat
- Swords Dance
- Feint
Self -Explanatory. Mega Hera lacks speed and Beedrill lacks the Bulk. Swords Dance+Frustration is an amazing combo. Close Combat is mainly for Heatran counters. The Feint has +2 priority and is great for taking out sturdy pokemon. Pinsir can also be a great wall breaker. (You can replace Close Combat for Earthquake)
The Sweeper
(Heracross) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bug Bite
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
Scarfed-Moxie-Cross is amazing. It can out speed Greninja in certain cases. The Moxie boosts your attack after you make an opposing pokemon faint if you didn't know. Heracross is another wall breaker.
The Def?
(Volcarona) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 Spe
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
Volcarona may seem defensive in this set, but it's still offensive. Set up 2 quiver dances, and there! You have sweeper material in a defensive wall. You can survive an Earthquake with this set. Replacing Roost with Giga Drain for a more speedy offensive set is also another option I sometimes swap out for.
The Tsurugi
(Scizor) @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
I named this guy Tsurugi after a steel type gym leader who used to moderate a league (Yggdrasil) that I was a part of. This is a standard Scizor set. It's basically Swords Dance bullet punch everything. You also get a boost for bullet punch from Technician, which raises the attack of moves with a base attack of 60 or lower.

PROBLEMS I FACE
-Stealth Rocks. I just don't know what to swap out for for the Forretress/Rapid Spinner.
