Other ORAS PU - Dino Balance

Hi, there has been a while since I posted my last PU RMT, and my knowledge of the tier definitely became better, so here I'm bringing you a balanced team that I built around specs aurorus.

aurorus.gif

Aurorus @ Choice Specs
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 144 HP / 252 SpA / 112 Spe
Modest Nature
- Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Dark Pulse

After watching jurassic world I felt like creating a team around a dino, between tyrantrum and aurorus I decided to use the second option. This used to be refrigerate hyper voice, but I noticed that I was getting destroyed by sun teams so I changed it to snow warning. Blizzard and freeze dry are stabs to spam, while earth power hits steel types like probopass, and dark pulse is for grumpig. EV spread allows you to outspeed base 70 uninvested such as poliwrath and gogoat.

ninjask.gif

Ninjask @ Choice Band
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 144 SpA / 112 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Giga Drain
- Aerial Ace
- U-turn
- Return/Metal Claw

Ninjask has good synergy with aurorus and can also hit pretty hard when you put a choice band on it. Aerial ace and u-turn is what you'll normally click, while return can be useful for electric types that resists aerial ace (when you don't want to click u-turn). This EV spread allows you to 2HKO carracosta with giga drain assuming rocks are up. Also does a really good job checking jumpluff to revenge kill or on a predicted giga drain. Also, if you didn't notice, this team is also a bit weak to aurorus, so metal claw is an option over return.

pelipper.gif

Pelipper @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 208 HP / 92 SpA / 196 SpD / 12 Spe
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Defog
- U-turn
- Roost

Water resist and a way to deal with stuff like simipour. Some SpA EVs to guarantee some KO's that you normally don't get with scald. 208 hp evs allows you to switch in 4 times with rocks up. It's also a mandatory defogger since my two hard hitters are weak to rocks. U-turn forms a cool core with ninjask.

poliwrath.gif

Poliwrath @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Circle Throw
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

I was looking weak to carracosta and barbaracle so I added poliwrath to counter non grass knot/zen headbutt variants. Wrath really doesn't need max physical bulk to take hits. So this EV spread allows you to take special hits as well. It's a common rest talk poliwrath so I won't talk about the moves because they're so standard lol.

tangela.gif

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis

Hard hitters such as stoutland, ursaring and leafeon were annoying with rocks up, so I added standard defensive tangela to help me with them, hidden power ice is to lure jumpluff, tho it's actually becoming so standard that people are not switching pluff on a tangela. It's also a back up check to carracosta, and also counters that if it has zen headbutt to get rid of poliwrath.

stunfisk.gif

Stunfisk @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Discharge
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

I wanted something to set up stealth rocks and take special hits at the same time, so stunfisk seemd like a good pokemon to add since it can take a lot of hits and also cripple your opponents with discharge, toxic and static. It's also a way to stop volt switch shenanigans from happening, checking raichu and zebstrika decently well.

Aurorus @ Choice Specs
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 144 HP / 252 SpA / 112 Spe
Modest Nature
- Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Dark Pulse

Ninjask @ Choice Band
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 144 SpA / 112 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Giga Drain
- Aerial Ace
- U-turn
- Metal Claw

Stunfisk @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Discharge
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis

Pelipper @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 208 HP / 92 SpA / 196 SpD / 12 Spe
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Defog
- U-turn
- Roost

Poliwrath @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Circle Throw
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

I don't really understand the thought process behind any of your EV spreads bar Tangela and Stunfisk, so if you could explain your thought process it would help.

You mention that Poliwrath is for Barbaracle and Carracosta, when Tangela can take care of them on its own. I'd suggest an Offensive Grumpig > Poliwrath.

Grumpig @ Colbur Berry / Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 160 HP / 252 SpA / 96 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Taunt
- Toxic / Thunder Wave

On Aurorus, you should run max Speed with a Timid Nature, as it really doesn't need the extra bulk, and it allows it to actually outpace some Pokemon. (Adamant 252 Spe invested Barbaracle, Jolly 252 Spe Torterra, Adamant 252 Spe Flareon, Adamant 252 Spe Relicanth, Adamant 252 Spe Pawniard, and Adamant 252 Spe Zweilous.)

Ninjask should run 4 SpA , as it already 2HKOs Smash Carracosta after Rocks, and it should have Infiltrator > Speed Boost as it doesn't need the extra Speed.

I'd also suggest running Probopass > Stunfisk, as it works well with Pelipper and Tangela, and has access to momentum with Volt Switch, and can help you take on Pawniard.

Probopass @ Air Balloon
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 160 HP / 252 SpA / 96 Spe
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Earth Power

Hey man, cool team you have there, but there's definitely some changes that should be made

Specs Aurorus is pretty cool, but your amount of Speed investment isn't that helpful, as you're still not outspeeding standard Poliwrath with it, so I'll just suggest you change you change your spread from 144 HP / 252 SpA / 112 Spe --> 96 HP / 252 SpA / 160 Spe, as this will allow you to outspeed Poliwrath and you will have an odd HP number to allow you to switch into Stealth Rock 4 times.

Secondly, I'd recommend you change your Ninjask up a bit, as hitting Carracosta and Golem with Giga Drain isn't that important, as you can just U-turn into Tangela. Return and Metal Claw aren't good either, so that should be changed to X-Scissor for a stronger STAB.

Your Pelipper spread doesn't make much either, I would just change it from 208 HP / 92 SpA / 196 SpD / 12 Spe --> 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD, which makes sure you can reliably check Simipour and Ninetales, and I'll also recommend Air Slash --> U-turn just to make sure you beat Poliwrath, but U-turn is also helpful along with Ninjask, so I'll let you decide.

Since you already have Tangela, I don't think defensive Poliwrath is necessary, and I noticed you're looking really weak to Ice-types in general (Rotom-F or opposing Aurorus) so I'm gonna recommend Poliwrath --> Grumpig which allows you to check them much more reliably.

Tangela makes sense for your team to check common Shell Smashers, but I'd recommend you change Leech Seed --> Sleep Powder, which is much better overall, since you already have Synthesis for recovery.

If you happen to change Poliwrath to Grumpig, you'll become pretty weak to Pawniard, which is why I'll recommend you change your spread to 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD --> 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA with a Bold nature in order to better check it. You'll still check Zebstrika and Raichu fine.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely use them.

Btw twix, if you still want to know what that EV spread was supposed to do: poliwrath doesn't get 2HKO'd by a life orb grass knot from a simipour. Pelipper has a good chance of knocking out piloswine after rocks with scald.

But your EV spreads look better so I'll try them out, thanks.
