ORAS UU ORAS UU stall team: Steelix-mega and friends

Hello! I´m heracroshot, and this is the first RMT that I upload with this account.
I consider myself a decent UU player, but I usually play with balanced teams and this is the second stall team I build. I built it when mega-medicham was in the tier, but it can handle the threats of the tier at the moment.
The idea was to build a full stall team with 1-2 set up mons to have solid win conditions

When I think in UU, the first threat that I think of is fighting spam, so that´s why the first member of the team is Cresselia:
Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 176 Def / 84 Spe
Bold Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Moonlight
Cresselia is one of the bulkiest mons in the game, and doesn´t even need full investment to take on pokemons like mienshao. I will explain the EV spread after.
Standard calm mind set
After this, I though I needed a dark type and a special time, and a cleric, and that´s the definition of umbreon:
Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 SpD
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Foul Play
Umbreon is just a special attacker that can take dracos without resisting them and punish physicall attackers with foul play.
For the third slot I was going to use standard aggron but, after see the whole team, I noticed that I didn´t have a ground type, and here is when I found steelix
Steelix-Mega @ Steelixite
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 248 HP / 184 Def / 76 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam
Standard movepool with a weird EV spread that I will explain later. Is the only steel type and the volt-turn stopper.
When you see the team, you miss a fire resistance that can take on mons like entei or darmanitan, and I wanted a win condition, so I chose Suicune
Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Crocune, not a lot to explain in the movepool
When you see the team, you see 2 mons weak to fight and only one resistance, and I don´t have a crocune check. I wanted a grass type too, so I though in whimsicott:
Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 188 Def / 72 SpD
Bold Nature
- Leech Seed
- Encore
- Moonblast
- Substitute
This set makes whimsicott able to take hits and gain heal with leech seed.
For my last mon, I wanted a spiner and another water type mon, so I though tentacruel was perfect:
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: null Atk
- Toxic Spikes
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Acid Spray

I think I built the team good, and now I´m going to explain the EVs and everything else.

THE TEAM

The first mon I chose was cresselia:

cresselia.jpg

Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 176 Def / 84 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Bold Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Moonlight

Physically defensive cresselia. It can sound a bit weird to see EVs on speed, but they help. They let me sub on fast walls, such as arcanine. Stops fighting spam and is part of my win condition. I know cress usually runs moonblast, but the team was blocked by tentacruel and I needed to have something to kill it and cress is just perfect. Even without full investment on defense, it´ll take hits very well and will be very easy to set up with it.

umbreon.jpg
Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell/Baton pass
- Foul Play

My dedicated speciall wall, that can wall a good part of the tier. This mon pass wishes to the rest of the team, basiclly a cleric. I like to run heal bell over baton pass, just for support the team. 32 EVs on defense are to don´t be 2HKOd by LO Krookodile´s earthquake so I can wish against it. Foul play is the most useful attack on umbreon due to it´s poor attack stats and it punishes physicall attackers.
This pokemon will be part of your win conditions, so don´t ply reckless with it.

suicune.jpg

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

My other physicall wall. This is your switch into entei, darmanitan and other strong fire types. Just crocune, with 16 EVs on SpD that helps you to don´t be threatened by some special attackers after a boost. This is your other set up mon, and will be your win conditions in a lot of games, and it´s natural bulk makes it able to take wishes. Also, pressure helps against other stall teams and makes difficult to your opponent to keep clicking wish.

steelix-mega.jpg

Steelix-Mega @ Steelixite
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic/Roar
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam

The mega of the team. This was going to be aggron, but I wanted a ground type to stop volt-turn. This doesn´t take hits as well as aggron, but is a very fat mon. Wish support from umbreon helps this guy a lot, so don´t play reckless with this. Is also my stop to physicall dragons.

whimsicot.jpg

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 188 Def / 72 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leech Seed
- Encore
- Moonblast
- Substitute/Giga Drain

The annoyer of the team and my check for crocune, because with encore it gets stucked into calm mind/sleep talk/rest and can´t touch my team. Recovers health very fast because of leech seed and has the capability of keep doing substitute because of that. EVs on defense are to don´t die to mega sharpedo´s waterfall + ice fang and kill it with moonblas, that almost OHKOs. You can run 32 EVs on SpA so you OHKO it after stealth rocks damage. Crobat and tentacruel are straight counters.
This is your most sure switch to hydreigon and a decent pivot.
You can run giga drain or energy ball to hit suicune if it stays in.

tentacruel.jpg

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic Spikes
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Acid Spray

My other bulky water and special wall. Toxic spikes help a lot to stall and makes the procces faster. Is also the spiner of the team and loves wish support. It resists fighting as well and acid spray helps me to beat calm minders. 32 EVs on defense are to don´t die to superpower + earth power from nidoking, which is useful. It also takes special hits very well and has a nice speed stat.

- Heracross: the team was built before this big dog came to the tier. If it´s the banded set, I have to play around it, and if it´s the toxic orb set, cress can take it on because they don´t run megahorn.
- Nido-twins: they are a huge problem due to their capability of wallbreak
I decided to upload this team because the only thing that can 6-0 the team is serperior, which is gone.
The account where I tested the team is Stall bt medicham, if you want to search replays. Hope you liked the team and comment any suggestion!

Tbh I like the team a lot. While your EVs are a bit unconventional, they look to do the job and do it well. In regards to other threats/things you could address, I think you should look out for mixed Hydreigon, as it puts in a good deal of work on your team. I'll give it a try and let you know anything else I notice. :)

I know the team is weak to the hydra but if I do good predictions, I can handle it :]

Interesting looking team. Since a lot of these sets are customized, I'm not gonna focus on replacing members of your team, simply offering suggestions to respond to some of the things you've already said you're worried about (like CB Heracross)

  • I know it looks good in theory, but Cress doesn't need the speed to get past neutral base 95s like Arcanine. Put it all in defense, with the remaining 4 EVs into speed. An alternative option is 44 speed to get past bulky Roserade, but that's about it.
  • If you really want Umbreon to be a mixed wall, run 252 HP / 100 Def / 156 SpD Calm. Otherwise, just stick to 252 HP / 252 SpD and let Crocune / Mega Steelix handle the physical threats.
  • Stick to the natures that benefit your Pokemon. You can get a much better number by investing less EVs into Mega Steelix's defenses while still boosting its numbers to insane levels with a positive nature. Refer to my example below:
Your Steelix-Mega
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 248 HP / 184 Def / 76 SpD
Careful Nature

Your set hits 542 Defense and 269 Special Defense

My Steelix-Mega
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature

This set hits 547 Defense and 289 Special Defense

My example was just an example, so tweak the EVs as you see fit. The major point is this; always work the EVs around the most beneficial natures.

  • I'm not a fan of Tenta on this team; you already have a special wall in the form of Umbreon, so I think your team would really benefit with replacing Tenta with something like Defog Crobat. Hazards aren't a focus of your semi-stall team, so it's best to use something that can reliable keep them off your field while taking away another ground weakness. Ice types such as Cloyster will try to capitalize on this, so keep Whimsicott ready to encore that shell smash.

Hi king! I´m really excited for the fact that you replied, and I like all the sugestions you made. The steelix ev/nature is something very huge that I´ll change right now. I think I´ll let tentacruel there because t-spikes are helpfull for stall and I have cress for fighting spam. Also, I like spiner>defoger because that doesn´t force your team to do so many switches to set rocks again, and is also a check for calm minders, because whimsicot can´t keep switching the whole battle. About the umbreon spread, I have to test it because I need it to take big special hits, hand I have the 32 evs there just to be able to wish easier, not because I want it to be a mixed wall.
Thanks for the reply!

Also, I think you are completly right about cress spread

Hey man, cool stall team you have. Just have a few things to say about it here for you.

The main niche I find that Cune has for stall teams is Roar which allows it to beat things that usually trouble stall such as Reuniclus and Snorlax by phazing them out before they boost too much. So I think that Roar Suicune over Crocune will benefit your team You already have a win con in Cress so you could run it over CM, or you could run Roar over Sleep Talk, it's really up to you. Last thing I have for you is to run at least 24 speed EVs on Tentacruel. This creep outspeeds Max Speed Adamant Honchkrow, a pretty big threat in the tier so being able to outspeed it and fish for a burn or get a last minute spin is pretty important especially with how much it pressures your team once Steelix goes down.

Hope I helped! Good luck with your team :]
