Hey guys, this is my first RMT here on Smogon. I'm not a new player, it's just a new account. So I'm a french player and with this Team I reached the top 20 on Smogon ladder ( 17) and won the biggest Tournement in France.
This is a Bulky Offense Team, this is my favorite style playing. I just wanted to build a Team around Empoleon. I created a combo around him with Gengar and Dragonite. The main aim of the Team is to kill Empoleon's counters with Electrics moves / Dragons moves / Spikes and Stealth Rocks and to sweep the oppenent's Team with Empoleon. I tried a lot of things on it before and after a long tests, I got that :

I'm a Phoenix, you can't kill me
227.png

Skarmory@Shed Shell => CyberFenix

- Spikes
- Taunt
-Brave Bird
- Roost
Nature Impish

252 Hp / 64 Atk / 176 Def / 16 Spe

Here is my Lead, Skarmory. Skarmory? Why Skarmory? I first tested Roserade then Smeargle but none of them did his job properly. I saw that Toxic Spikes was nearly useless with all this steels and flying Types so I thought that Spikes was better because Vaporeon / Suicune / Blissey / Snorlax hate Stealth Rocks + Spikes + Sandstorm + an offensive move. With Toxic Spikes it's just on the duration but with Spikes it's directly on any switch.
I tried first Roserade Calm but it didn't work. And when I made this Team, Lead Skamory was present in some Team so I wanted to try it. Skarmory helps me to switch on Scizor's U-Turns, Scarf Flygons who outspeed Empoleon after an Agility and Scarf Jirachis too.
I have Taunt to beat Lead Swampert ( he can't set up his Stealth Rocks) and when you predict a switch on Breloom or statut inflicter. Taunt is very important for Tyranitar, because against Rotom, it's a little problematic if he uses WoW, so Taunt prevents Rotom to use this move. Swampert has already Roar, so I didn't need Whirlwind.
Spikes is really important here. Spikes is especially for Jirachi because he can Rape my Team because he outspeed Empoleon after an Agility and he can set up Calm Mind.
Roost is here for a longer staying power especially that I don't have Leftovers, so it would be very stupid to lose Skarmory to early in the Match.
I don't wanna get trapped by a Magnezone on first turn so Shed Shell is really important.
Brave Bird is here to break shashes / to beat taunters and to screw Machamp. I first used the Impish max Special Defense but he didn't resisted well on physical and even special so I used the classic Ev's spread, full Hp and a lot of Defense Ev's ( I reach 396) and a few Ev's in Attack and Speed to outspeed other Skarmory.
Skarmory attract Rotom, Latias and Gengar and can Taunt them and it's pretty cool when they are Taunted because Tyranitar can come easier and trap them, but if they are not taunted, they can Subsititute or Will O Wisp or Calm Mind and kill Tyranitar. Skarmory is good too to bring Heatran on the field and then Empoleon can set up on it because Empoleon can take a Fire Blast of Heatran.
So Skarmory is really important in this Team for all these reasons.

Swampert@Leftovers => ~Rugaji~

- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Roar
Nature Relaxed

240 Hp / 216 Def / 52 SpD

This is still the beast you're used to deal with. I'm still using him in every team I make because he's an important part of my core.
He gives me an Electric immunity, which is awesome because of Skarm and Empoleon, who are suffering from T-bolts.
He also lays down some Stealth rock, doing massive damages with Spikes (Scizor takes 37% every time he switches him, such a passive onslaught)
SR help me weakening Gyarados, and it's important because it hinders Empoleon sweep... Jirachi and Flygon are totally countered by Swampert, it's perfect in that way.
Earthquake is his main stab, hurting Jirachi for massive damages. (He doesn't like being EQed after Spikes...)
Ice Beam hit Mence, Flygon and Latias on the switch-in. It's important because this one is hindering Empoleon too :(
Roar disables Jirachi from using subs and CM-ing. It also hurts with Spikes + SR. It's a massive lure for some Pokes, named Rotom-A and Latias, which ones are taken care of by Ttar.
Against Empoleon, Blissey is so hurry to T-wave... Tyranitar welcomes her.
Tyranitar is also totally countered by Swampert, whereas the rest of my team doesn't like it or is completely blasted by it. If it's scarfed, I can thank Spikes + SR (And EQ obviously)
Again, SpikeSR are hardly damaging stallmons like Vaporeon / Bliss / Snorlax / Suicune, and that's the key of triumph.
Relax nature helps me not to have a weakened Ice Beam. Otherwise, it's a classic spread.
I hope you've understood this is a really important Poke, which is always doing what he has to do !

I'm the right arm of the Devil

Tyranitar@Choice Scarf = > ~Obelisk~

- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
Nature Jolly

252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp

My saver, my Hero, ScarfTar <3. Tyranitar is the perfect Pokémon for Empoleon. Why? Because Latias / Rotom / Gengar / Starmie are all screwed by Pursuit and when they are Scarfed they outspeed Empoleon +2 so Tyranitar is so important ! Skarmory and Swampert are weak to Latias / Rotom / Gengar / Starmie then I revenge kill them with Tyranitar. They are all Special sweeper and Tyranitar has a great Special Defense with the Sandstorm so it's pretty cool. Empoleon isn't hit by the Sandstorm so it's perfect. Sandstorm help me against Blissey, Snorlax, Suicune, Vaporeon because they are all hit by the sand.
With Earthquake I can hit CMJirachi who is a big problem for Empoleon. An other thing very important is that Tyranitar is weak by Bullet Punch. Then I can bring Empoleon and begin the sweep.
So you can see that Tyranitar is so important for my Team and Empoleon's sweep !

Are you sure you brought enough people?

Dragonite_by_AlexSchram.jpg

Salamence@Life Orb = > Chimeratech

- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Extrem Speed
- Superpower
Nature Mild

116 Atk / 200 SpA / 192 Spe

The first part of my combo, Dragonite. Draco Meteor hurts everybody, especially Pokes like Gyarados/Suicune/Vaporeon/Swampert, and even more after Spikes+SR. All those are OHKOd by DM if my entry hazards are up, and even if I only have 2 layers of spikes. If I have only one layer and SR, they die to DM + another move. Superpower is the first key of this combo, because Blisssey is simply destroyed by this move after SR and a DM on the switch in. The second key, which is more than important, is the dual-typing of Dragonite. It's weak to Ice/Dragon/rock, and every move he has is countered perfectly by Empoleon which makes him easy to switch him ; perfect, isn't it ? Another thing, which is as important as previous one, is that Scizor love to BulletPunch low-HP Dragonite. That's perfect for Empoleon, again. For the nature, I've taken the Mild nature for maximum powerful , which allows him reaching 320 and 328.
The remaining EVs are put into Attack because I need to hurt and get kill with Superpower or Extrem Speed. Life orb is obviously for more power. This is such a powerhouse, hard to counter and anticipate, which allows me to kill foes's threats.
Dragonite + SR and Spikes is simply amazing and inequaled.

Not only Heigth matters
094.png

Gengar@Life Orb => ~Neos~

- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Explosion
Nature Naive

40 Atk / 218 SpA / 252 Spe

Here is the second part of my combo, LOGengar. This little ghost is a monster. He has two importants moves and a very cool type to help Empoleon. Indeed, Thunderbolt + LO is here to hit Suicune / Vaporeon and with Spikes + Stealth Rock, they don't like that. But the most important move is Explosion. Explosion is here to kill Blissey, Snorlax and why not Suicune or Vaporeon at full Hp. So Blissey and Snorlax come on Gengar because they think Gengar can't do anything, but he does. Explosion OHKO everytime Snorlax, Blissey, Vaporeon and Suicune whit Spikes + Stealth Rock. Then the field is clean for Empoleon ! But it's not all, his typing is very important. Yeah Gengar attract Pursuit like a beast. So Scizor, Tyranitar, Weavile come, Pursuit Gengar and then... Go Empoleon ! An other thing with Scizor is that he can use Bullet Punch too, so it's pretty cool for Empoleon.
With Spikes + Stealth Rock, LOGengar is a killer, he can 2HKO Snorlax with Focus Blast and 2HKO/OHKO 95% of the Metagame. Just a beast !

Give me one turn, and you die

395.png

Empoleon@Petaya Berry = > ~GameOver~

- Agility
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Substitute
Nature Modest

12 Hp / 252 SpA / 244 Spe

The Star of the show ! Give me one little setup turn and the game is over.
He's the MVP of my team. With torrent boost + Petaya berry, it's almost impossible to wall him. My other pokes are made so they can lure in his counters and kill them, so he can sweep easily.
Another good thing is its immunity to sandstorm and resistance to Bullet punch (x0.25), Ice Shard (x0.25), ExtremeSpeed (x0.5). His only concern is about Mach Punch, which send him to penguin hell. His Steel typing is important because Dragonite and Gengar tear early holes in foe's team, and their weaknesses are countered by him.
I've chosen Icebeam over Grass knot because of Dragonite and Gengar who are killing bulky water. It also kills Dragonites. Jirachi is a big problem, so my team's goal is to weaken him with Spikes and my other Pokes.
This Poke is overpowered, and if you let him setup, that's a GameOver.

Have you tried Lucario as a replacement to Empoleon? You already have Gengar to bait Pursuit/ or a Flygons Outrage. I think he would work better because you have Spikes rather than Toxic Spikes and Luke would appreciate that a bit more.

Lucario @ Life Orb
Nature : Adamant/Jolly
252 Atk/ 252 Spe/4 Def

-Swords Dance
-Close Combat
-Extreme Speed
-Bullet Punch

I Prefer Adamant, but Jolly is an option since you do have Spikes support. Standard moves with the exception of Bullet Punch which KO's ScarfTar at +2 (who was everywhere when Latias was around).

I also think you should use Lum Berry on your lead Skarmory, it will allow you to reliably beat Machamp leads which seems to do a number to your team and status leads (Roserade). Don't worry about Magnezone, its a rare site and even if it does kill Skarm it'll be dead weight to your opponent afterwards.

Other than that nice team and good luck

... Why did you post this team now ? Salamence (and Latias) are banned so this isn't a competitive team.

Heatran Lead have Hidden Power Grass and OHKO Swampert.

Hmm I know... wait. Dragonite over Mence.

Dragonite is now over Salamence. Sorry to post a Team with Mence, now it's with Dragonite and all is good.
Thank's.

Has Dragon Dance Tyranitar or Gyarados ever bother you ? I'm seeing a big weakness to Dragon Dance + 3 Attacks Tyranitar, and if it has Taunt it's pretty much gg. As it can Taunt Skarmory, though Swampert can counter it in a pinch, it's still a threat. Gyarados, on the other hand, is a bigger threat, because once it grabs a DD you lose, while Ice Fang and Earthquake take care of your other team members. [Tyranitar can't outspeed Gyarados at +1]

Skarmory is also a bit weird on this team, i don't see it doing anything useful as your team doesn't really benefit from Spikes as much as it does with Toxic Spikes [except for Salamence, who kinda needs Spikes, but your team is centered around Empoleon, so yeah.]

Why not replace it with a lead Forretress ?

Forretress @ Leftovers
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD [or you can go for 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Def]
Careful / Impish
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Payback

It can provide Toxic Spikes which is necessary for Empoleon to outstall Blissey and friends.

I also suggest using MixNite over MixMence, and it being banned isn't the reason, the reason is because MixNite is IMO better than MixMence on paper, simply because it has access to same moves in addition to ExtremeSpeed and Superpower.

Dragonite @ Life Orb
116 Atk / 200 SpA / 192 Spe
Rash / Mild
- Superpower
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- ExtremeSpeed

ExtremeSpeed over Roost is to help you revenge-kill Gyarados and other Dragon Dancers once they're at the KO range.

I really like this team, good luck!

Mmm... The phrases used to introduce your pokemons remind me of another RMT =p I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about... But anyway idolating people is not always a bad thing :-)

Nice but old team btw

Yes what's the problem ? I find the idea very cool that's all, it's not because it's Goten. But even here you want to troll me ...

I'm not trolling, you find all of his ideas great and that is actually what I call idolising :-) I mean, ok why not on pokemon, but quoting a guy you know from pokemon on Facebook...

Anyway it has nothing to do with the team so I won't post there anymore, sorry for the Smog' mods =p

Arikado => With Foretress I can't counter DDTar. I don't like use Foretress, I prefere Skarmory. Against DDTar, yes it's a problem but he can't set up DD against my Pokemons => Skarm => Yes it's the only Poke but Swampert is a good switch and my ScarfTar can win the Speed Tie.
Yeah Nite over Mence I know, I already made the substitution ^^
For DDGyara is not a big problem because with Stealth Rock + SS + Ice Beam from Swampert and Brave Bird from Skarm and Extrem Speed from Nite, Gyara is KO ;O

Congrats on your success with this team! I was going to point out that SubPetaya Empoleon really appreciates Toxic Spikes support to assist it in sweeping, but seeing as you want to keep it and you prefer Skarmory for laying entry hazards, I'm not going to chance your team around drastically. However, your current Skarmory set does leave you very vulnerable to sleep-inducing leads such as Roserade and Smeargle. Since you don't have a sleep-absorber, you'll be forced to sacrifice a valuable member of your team to sleep in order to regain momentum against sleep leads. For this reason, I'd like to suggest trying out a Taunt + Lum Berry Skarmory set, which happens to work very well with Swampert:

[box]
227_20_0.png

Skarmory @ Lum Berry
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP / 164 SpD / 92 Spe
Careful Nature (+SpD, -SpA)
- Taunt
- Whirlwind
- Spikes
- Roost
[/box]
Against Smeargle and Roserade leads, you can now Taunt as they use their sleep moves, effectively shutting them down as you are cured by Lum Berry. The EVs and moveset are taken from Skarmory's analysis page; they basically bolster Skarmory's lower special defense stat while adding in enough speed to outpace RestTalk Gyarados. This also means that you can outspeed and Taunt slower leads such as Swampert and Metagross, preventing them from setting up Stealth Rock. Dragonite will really appreciate being able to switch in without taking entry hazard damage, especially considering that it doesn't carry Roost. The loss of Brave Bird may seem off-putting, but Skarmory often doesn't need an attacking move and Whirlwind is much more useful for phazing, forcing switches, and racking up entry hazard damage that will help you in wearing down your opponents.

Looking over the team, you also happen to have a very notable weakness to Bulky Taunt Gyarados (Tyranitar is actually not too big of a threat considering that Swampert checks it quite well). In your threat list, you have listed Skarmory, Swampert, and Dragonite with Extremespeed as ways of dealing with it. However, keep in mind that the first two are easily shut down and even set up on with Taunt and Dragon Dance, while Gyarados is bulky enough to survive an Extremespeed and hit back with Stone Edge. One easy way to fix this problem would be to replace Gengar with a Scarf Rotom-W. This change would give you a great revenge killer for Gyarados and Infernape, as well as what is arguably the best spinblocker in the game. Scarf Rotom also outspeeds LO Starmie, one of your biggest threats, allowing it to serve as a check in some cases.

Good luck with your team!

Yeah but with ScarfRotom I lose my chance to kill Blissey =/ For DDGyara @ Taunt, it's a problem I know it, but SR + SS help me a lot and then Swampert and Skarmory can take 3 waterfall, so I can use 2 Ice Beam and 2 Brave Bird to take down Gyarados.
Thx a lot for Skarmory, I think it's a really good idea.

Tyranitar is not a threat. Swampert counters it very well, and if it does not have Taunt, Skarmory phazes it. Empoleon even acts as a last ditch check so long as it is not using Earthquake. Princeton's own Tyranitar can revenge kill if needed.

Anyway, I would like to second Faladran's suggestion of Lum Berry Skarmory >> your previous set. You do have a noticeable Gyarados weakness. Scarf Rotom does seem like the ideal replacement over Gengar but I really like Gengar's ability to weaken threats to Empoleon. Gengar can also allow Empoleon to set up on a Choice Band Scizor locked into Bullet Punch. You also have a notable problem with bulky-waters. For that reason, I want you to try a defensive Celebi or Shaymin in place of Dragonite. While you lose the ability to pick off threats with Extremespeed and weaken bulky-waters quite substantially, an offensive Celebi could swap over nicely in place of Dragonite. Celebi beats bulky-waters, checks Gyarados and even stops Bullet Punch Lucario, who currently 6-0es you.

Celebi @ Life Orb
Timid | Natural Cure
EVs: 192 HP / 140 SpA / 176 Spe
Leaf Storm / HP Fire / Earth Power / Recover

This does open your team up slightly to stall, but if you can Explode on Blissey with Gengar [not hard to do with everyone predicting SubSplit, and drop Gyarados down to about 75% [so when it comes in next, it should be at about 50%], you have a good shot at sweeping with Empoleon.

Good team and congratulations on your success.

Hmmmm, yeah but then Blissey 6-0es me ( Blissey can Protect when I use Explosion).
So Skarmory@Lum Berry is a pretty cool idea thx. Sorry but I prefere Dragonite over Celebi. Lucario can be problematic yes with Bullet Punch... I don't know what I can change...
