[OU] Blast from the Past

I got a bit bored of making ineffective teams that sort of stuck to being offensive/defensive, so I thought I'd go back in time a little and test out Chaosbreon in today's metagame. I've been using this team for a little while now, and it has about a 2-1 or 5-2 win/loss ratio. I do have issues with boosting sweepers and bug attacks (Scizor eats through my team if gyarados goes down), so I'd like some help with fixing it up a bit.

Umbreon (M) @ Chople Berry
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP/104 Def/60 Spd/92 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Mean Look
- Wish
- Taunt
- Baton Pass

This makes for a surprisingly good lead. The 60 Spd EV's give it 181 speed, enough to outspeed skarmory, metagross, and gang. I didn't find any useful leads to outspeed between 181 and 207 speed (which is what the Smogon default set runs), so I used it for defense instead. I generally get one trap pass and one wish pass per game. He destroys the slower leads with taunt. Any swampert that stays in past the taunt will die to Celebi. He has to switch out against Azelf, Aero, Infernape, Roserade, Metagross, and Machamp, but other than Roserade, it doesn't hurt me too much.

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Sleep Talk
- Rest

My one and only proper tank on the team. This is the only reason I can even stand up to Lucario, Scizor, Machamp (to a degree), and Infernape. If this dies, I am generally in serious trouble, so it's almost a requirement that it survive the whole match. Great finisher too.

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Tail

I find that this has great synergy with other members on the team. The second I see an Azelf lead, I switch to this. If they taunt on the first turn, they either get rocks up and die or explode and die without getting rocks up. If they get rocks up first turn, they still die but leave me with about half life. This also works great when Gyarados lures Starmie, Scarf Rotom, or Scarf/Specs Gengar Tbolts. Guaranteed kill if I switch this into the Tbolt.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/220 Def/36 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- U-turn
- Grass Knot
- Perish Song
- Recover

The other half of the Chaosbreon strategy. I get at least one kill with this a game (generally lead Swamperts). I rely on this a lot to get safe switches.

Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Extremespeed
- Swords Dance

Clean up crew that I generally don't bring out till later in the game.

Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP/216 Def/52 SAtk
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump
- Stealth Rock

Metagross/Ttar check that I really need to have. Gets rocks up and plays a good back up tank.

---------

As I previously mentioned, this team has issues with fast boosting sweepers. I remember that a Nasty Plot Sash Infernape ate through half my team once, as did a Ninjask pass to Metagross. If Gyarados ever gets taken down, then Scizor can demolish the rest of my team. I have 3 bug weaknesses (x4 on Celebi), so I really need Gyara to stay in.

Unfortunately, I think the weakest link on this team is actually Umbreon! Sadly enough, it generally ends up doing nothing once it gets the first successful pass. It's either too hurt or just can't get a good switch in. But for the sake of maintaining this team's theme, I'll keep Umbreon there. Any ideas on how I can improve this?

Threat List

Offensive
Fast boosting sweepers
Scizor
Yanmega (yes, it's sad)

Defensive
Not many, thanks to Umbreon/Celebi. I've not had any problems yet with being totally walled to death.

Try this T-tar set

Tyranitar @ Choice band
Adamant (+ Atk, - spA)
Sand Stream
240 Atk / 92 spe / 176 HP
Earthquake
Stone edge
Crunch
Pursuit

You see, the thing is, once opponents see umbreon they freak out because it is so effective when not dealt with. They play the entire game specifically to not let it set up. So say you switch umbreon in on something, you have to be able to predict your opponents next move, which will likely be a switch and use it to get an advantage.

After using Umbreon quite a bit myself, I find it hurts the opponents team more by threatening to set up rather than actually setting up.

@ Slowpokez: Okay thanks, I will try the set out. I'm not sure how much I would need to outspeed skarmory (compared to having to take some more hits). I'll test it out and see how it works.

@ Overcast: Hmm yeah, I never thought of it that way. This is the first time I've used Umbreon since, well, Advance. So I'll test out what you said as well.

Any comments on how to improve the team as a whole?

Hmm, I tried out the extra speed/less hp on TTar, but I ended up struggling more because he could no longer take hits as well. With SR damage, for example, Starmie would 2HKO with surf, whereas with the higher HP, I could afford to take sr damage, switch into a surf, and still pursuit for the KO after taking the 2nd surf.

I tried doing some dry bp's on umbreon to get the edge on incoming threats, but my team just didn't have the 'OOMPH' required to capitalize on that.

Any comments on the team as a whole?
