OU BW Sweeper Fleet

Hello Smogon Community,

I have played this team for about 2 months, and while it has been changed several times, I have decided to stick with the original line-up. It is a sweeper team that I designed to be versatile and a little complicated, so I will save strategy for each individual Pokemon. I will say that the team relies on synergy and great prediction, but with no risk comes no reward.

Delivery (Togekiss) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SAtk / 184 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere
- Flamethrower
- Tri Attack

I want to start by saying that I hate the new team viewer, because it has erased the role of a lead from the game, which is an element I miss. Leads no longer begin a team strategy, they just exist now. I wanted to keep a single lead, but I needed someone who can be more than just an anti-lead, I needed a great general counter. Most Togekiss sets are standard para-flinch, this set is predictable and not as a sustainable strategy as advertised. Instead I modified the idea a little with a Choice Scarf. This pokemon isn’t a suicide lead; I save her the first opportunity and use her as a revenge killer after.

Togekiss has 371 special attack, and 363 speed which outspeeds max Starmie. With a successful flinch I can 2HKO many threats such as Haxorus, and Togekiss’ natural bulk allows it to survive 1-2 neutral attacks. Aura Sphere is for Tyranitar, which doesn’t kill him but allows me to revenge kill. Flamethrower is for steels, and I can kill them easily because they switch into Togekiss expecting a different set and get 1HKO almost every time. The last slot is tri-attack because I cannot find another attack I can use effectively, so I went with a STAB which has a 40% chance to burn, freeze, or paralyze and its my hail mary.

Firefly (Volcarona) (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ground]

This Pokemon used to be my suicide lead until I got a spinner to spin away SR, and sometimes I would win matches with only this Pokemon. First move always Quiver Dance unless a anticipate Taunt, and Fiery Dance boost happens about 50% of the time. This Pokemon easily kills anything that doesn’t resist its attacks. I have been between HP Rock and HP ground, rock hits opposing Volcarona and Gyarados, but I am sick of Heatran and Tentacruel so I switched to Ground. The biggest pain and most usual switch is Blissey, but more often than not it is a welcome switch because Conkeldurr is the best counter, especially since most times Blissey tries to Toxic or T-wave me, giving Conkeldurr an ATK boost thanks to guts and he even takes rock attacks.

Black Pearl (Cloyster) (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Hydro Pump

This slot was either for Gyarados or Cloyster since both are sweepers that can come into physical attackers and threaten them. I stuck with Cloyster because she is mixed and I only need one set up turn to fully sweep thanks to Skill Link. I also chose Cloyster over any other options because I can destroy pokemon who think they are safe behind their substitutes with Icicle Spear and Rock Blast. Hydro is there because I wanted a special attack to surprise of people and 1hko scizor. This is easily my most powerful sweeper, and because Togekiss, Volcarona, and Excadrill will attract ice and water attacks, I can abuse Closyter’s x4 resistance to both.

Bismarck (Conkeldurr) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Guts
EVs: 156 HP / 252 Atk / 100 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Payback

Conkeldurr is my physical tank. I can set up 1, usually 2 bulk ups on any physical attacker and then heal with drain punch. Payback is for ghosts because at full health and 1 bulk up the only ghost that can counter me is Gengar with Psychic. Guts was the main reason this Pokemon is on my team because without a cleric I wanted someone who could take status moves. Conkeldurr also resists rock moves, which helps me protect cloyster, togekiss, and volcarona. I can also use Mach punch to revenge kill Tyranitar or Excadrill which otherwise cause problems for me.

Kokopelli (Whimsicott) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Encore
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Protect

Encore and Prankster, this Pokemon speaks for itself. This is where my prediction is most important, because using him wrong can truly mean the difference between winning and losing. The other 3 moves are for stalling out and killing pokemon who I cannot counter late game because I lost the pokemon I needed. Leech seed can also heal switch ins, which may not sound like a lot but it has saved me several times. My Volcarona or Cloyster would have just a little damage, so I would sacrifice Whimsicott and use leech seed so it can heal them to full health, letting me set up until focus sash saves me from a 1HKO and sweep the opposition. Sometimes even when this is my last Pokemon and I am facing three others I can win the game if my opponent doesn’t have the right move.

Ocelot (Excadrill )(M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

My three most important pokemon are all weak to SR, Volcarona’s biggest weakness is the 50% HP loss to it. I needed a rapid spinner, and I needed one that was ground to take electric attacks for togekiss and cloyster. So my options were Donphan and Excadrill and I chose Excadrill for two reason. First was that it was faster, and when it came time to sacrifice my spinner to allow a sweep, Donphan couldn’t get the spin in fast enough. The second reason is sandstorm. Sandstorm is a HUGE problem for me because my focus sash means when getting damaged by weather after every turn. With the ability Sand Rush and maxed speed, Excadrill can fill the role of a sweeper.

So thanks for reading my team, I really hope to get some great input from a great community. Thanks Smogon!

seems like a good team. But isn't Excadrill uber now? D:

Also, run SDefense Ev's on Conkedeldurr, not Defense
